Chapter 47 - 47: The Easiest Process Ever

The place I chose was a high-rise next to the university. Actually, saying it was next to the university severely undermined the convenience and class of the place.

As Mom said, we lived in the entertainment capital of the world. Doing some more research, I found out that the city the university was in was Rome — or the city of Rome — but not the Rome I'm familiar with, obviously. The name of the university, "Rome University," made a lot more sense now.

Anyway, point is, not only is Rome the capital of our country, it's also where the biggest, best, and most entertainers come. Agencies' headquarters are set up here, a bunch of designers set up here — basically, if it's involved in entertainment or fashion, it's in this fucking country and particularly in Rome City.

The high-rise, which I'm currently visiting, is in the center of all this! Mom of course followed me, and our agent is named Rick.

Ding~

The man led us through the right-hand door, and the moment we stepped inside, I got my mind blown.

Floor-to-ceiling windows stretched across the entire far wall, revealing a sprawling, glittering view of Rome City. Below, the people walking around looked like toy models from up here, and even the endless traffic streams below were muted into slow-moving rivers of light. We were fifty stories above everything, practically floating.

The room itself felt less like an apartment and more like some luxurious hotel suite. Polished marble floors caught the sunlight and threw it across the high ceilings, while sleek, minimalist furniture filled the space without making it feel cramped. A huge sectional couch faced the view, its deep grey color matching the cool-toned aesthetic of the room. To the side, a streamlined kitchen gleamed with metallic finishes like something straight out of a high-end cooking show.

Soft ambient lighting ran along the baseboards and ceiling trims, giving the whole place a subtle golden glow, as if the sunrise outside bled into the walls themselves. A faint scent of fresh linen and something faintly citrus floated through the air, too clean and too perfect to be natural.

I blinked, honestly struggling to process it.

"Being completely honest, the high-rise itself, while it is advanced, isn't our best property. If you'd like, I can show you that one," the man politely and honestly revealed to us.

"No. You are referring to the property in Alexandria, right?" I followed up.

"Correct, sir."

"It's way too far, and the reason I chose this place wasn't for advanced stuff or other nitpicky things. It's just convenient."

"I figured. I just thought I'd try to get some more commission out of you." Rick shrugged, unbothered.

"Haha~ You might be the chilliest person I've ever met."

"When you start selling for people with money, typically I don't have to do a lot but just make sure I don't look like a slob and answer specific questions."

I glanced at Mom and she nodded.

"He's right, Eiz. Most of the time, we don't really care all that much as long as it suits our taste."

"This might be rude, but have I seen you before, miss?" Rick kept stealing quick glances at Mom, but it wasn't anything perverted. He really was just confused.

Mom giggled, "Perhaps. I'm quite the actress, so it wouldn't surprise me."

"That doesn't really help, but whatever." Rick just led us throughout the rest of the place like the bathroom, bedrooms, and after it was all said and done, we discussed payment.

"How our place does things is the higher you are, the cheaper it is."

"Why? Shouldn't it be the opposite?" I didn't understand such a concept.

"Good question. You see, it's the danger risk. On higher floors, if something happens, then you are more likely to suffer more. In exchange, we offer lower prices for higher floors, and when something does happen — because you'll sign a contract — we aren't liable because you agreed to these terms."

"Fair enough."

"So for our highest floor, aka this one, your price drops to a measly $15,000 a month or $180,000 a year. But if you pay for the year, we give you a month free."

"I'll pay for the year then. And I'm just curious, how much does it cost on the lowest floor?"

"Thirty thousand a month."

"Why do people even stay down there then?"

"A good question, but I just want money so I leave it for them to waste and me to get!"

'Every second I like this dude more and more. He's just so real.' I kind of felt like I was getting pulled in and this was his unique tactic, but I didn't care. He made everything so easy, and Mom didn't seem to hint any distaste with him.

"Alright, so your total is $168,982.92." He handed me a card reader, and I looked at Mom weirdly.

She nodded her head and I just used tap-to-pay, and it was done like that.

"Cool. You can move right now if you want."

'H-Holy shit, this was so easy.'

I gave him thanks and Rick passed me the keys along with teaching me about the security features before he left. We finished everything before 9 a.m., which was insane since I thought Mom and I would be doing this all day.

"Do you want me to send your stuff over?" Mom looked at me with a kind of sad face. I gave her a hug and told her no.

"I promised Kate we can go on a shopping date."

Mom reciprocated my hug, and I felt her body twitch. She pulled me in tighter and I heard a few sobs, but I kept that to myself. Even with all of her money and the fact that she knew I'd be fine, I guess separating — even if it's just a few hours — hit her hard.

'Buying this place was easy, but leaving home is even harder, and I've only known the place for a little over a week.'

It felt strange that something could affect me so quickly, but perhaps that's how life worked.
