After Having a Dream, I Became Pregnant with a Billionaire's Child-Chapter 224 - 219 Congratulations
Chapter 224: Chapter 219 Congratulations
"Why are you here?"
As soon as Adam Willow stepped into the office and saw Carlos leisurely drinking tea on the sofa, his usually gentle expression immediately turned cold, his eyes filled with wariness.
Carlos looked up at Adam, his expression indifferent,
"I’m here to see Dr. Sterling."
He had arrived early today.
As one of the major investors of Capital Medical College, he was respectfully escorted to this office by the staff as soon as he entered the campus.
But after waiting for a long time, the doctor was still nowhere to be seen, which inevitably made Carlos a bit impatient.
"And you, as an interviewee, aren’t you supposed to be waiting for your interview? What are you doing here?"
Carlos spoke as he stood up and walked calmly over to face Adam.
His tall and upright figure was a good half a head taller than Adam, and at this moment, he looked down at him with an overwhelming sense of oppression.
Adam did not back down, standing tall and staring directly into Carlos’s eyes.
The two of them stood there quietly confronting each other, neither speaking a word, but the air was thick with tension, as if the whole office had suddenly dropped to freezing point. The intense beating of their hearts seemed almost audible.
Doctor Reed stood by, watching this tense scene, and coughed lightly to break the suffocating silence,
"It’s strange, it’s this late already, where is Dr. Sterling?"
"It’s out, it’s out."
Just when the tension in the office was about to reach a breaking point, a teacher walked in briskly.
"Is Dr. Sterling here?"
Adam and Carlos turned around at the same time, both asking in unison.
Adam’s eyes held a trace of urgency.
"The interview results are out."
The teacher said, slightly out of breath, after calming down.
This sentence instantly broke the tension that had surrounded the topic of Dr. Sterling, changing the atmosphere of the office.
Adam’s heart tightened, his hands unconsciously clenched into fists, and his entire mind was occupied with the impending interview results.
Carlos also directed his gaze at the teacher. If he couldn’t see Dr. Sterling, perhaps he should start with his students.
The teacher was the main person in charge of the interview process.
Adam was surprised to hear that the results were out. After all, there was still some time until the scheduled interview, and the interview had not even officially started, yet the results were already out. It was illogical.
His mind was in chaos, filled with all kinds of speculations, and his heart felt like it was being tightly grasped by an invisible hand.
But soon, he remembered the mysterious confidence Sophie Parker had shown earlier, assuring him that there was no need to worry about this interview, as the professor had already decided to take him on as a student.
It turned out that Sophie was right.
A great weight was lifted off Adam’s shoulders, and he couldn’t help but smile, his eyes filled with relief.
At this moment, the corridor outside was already packed with people.
Emily Parker and Senior Sister Long were among them.
"The interview results are out?"
The originally quiet candidates waiting for their turn instantly erupted.
"How is that possible?
The interview hasn’t even started yet!"
Someone shouted, and doubts and amazement filled the air.
"Emily, the interview hasn’t even begun, how can there be results already? Could it be..."
Senior Sister Long grabbed Emily’s hand, her face filled with anxiety. Emily could clearly feel her cold and slightly trembling palm. Senior Sister Long had experienced many academic conflicts and was well aware of the shady deals and dark undercurrents in the academic world.
Before coming to this interview, she had always respected Dr. Sterling, believing that this academic titan was a refreshing change, untainted by corruption.
But the sudden "interview results" shattered her illusion.
She sighed lightly, her eyes filled with disappointment and helplessness, seemingly lamenting the lack of pure academic soil in the world.
The surrounding candidates began discussing in hushed tones.
"This is so unfair, we’ve been preparing for so long, was it all for nothing?"
"Maybe someone has a strong background!"
Various words of suspicion and discontent filled the air, making the atmosphere increasingly uneasy.
"Senior Sister, the results haven’t been announced yet. Maybe you’re the lucky one." Emily smiled, patting Senior Sister Long’s hand, trying to reassure her. Her smile was bright and warm, her eyes sparkling with determination and optimism, as if dispelling the surrounding gloom.
"But, they’re only accepting one..."
Senior Sister Long bit her lip, her brows still furrowed, the worry on her face not entirely gone.
"Some people really overestimate themselves."
Just as Senior Sister Long was feeling anxious, a cold, abrupt voice drifted over.
Everyone looked towards the voice, seeing Sophie Parker walking over with an arrogant stride, a face full of sarcasm.
She had wanted to follow Adam and Doctor Reed to the office, but her status limited her to waiting outside.
Unexpectedly, the interview results came out quickly, and just like in her dreams, Adam had undoubtedly become Dr. Sterling’s student. In her dreams, Dr. Sterling also hadn’t followed the interview process but directly accepted Adam.
At this moment, Sophie lifted her chin, her eyes full of disdain, her gaze sweeping over Senior Sister Long and Emily, as if evaluating two losers.
She curled her lips into a mocking smile and deliberately raised her voice,
"Some people, no matter how hard they try, it’s all in vain. Others get what they want with ease, that’s just fate."
Her smug expression seemed to tell Emily that no matter how hard she tried, she would never surpass her.
At this moment, Carlos approached with his hands in his pockets, his face as indifferent as ever.
Adam and Doctor Reed walked over together.
As soon as Sophie saw Adam, her eyes lit up, and she eagerly bounded over like a cheerful fawn, her face beaming with smiles, her voice sickeningly sweet,
"Brother Adam, congratulations!
I knew you would definitely become Dr. Sterling’s student. You’re so outstanding, you totally deserve it."
She clung to Adam’s arm, leaning in slightly, her eyes full of joy.
Senior Sister Long sighed at this sight but could only suppress her emotions silently.
Emily stood quietly by, her expression calm, though a barely noticeable hint of sarcasm flashed in her eyes.
"Why are you here?"
Carlos spotted Emily in the crowd right away. He looked suspiciously at Adam beside him, wondering if she had specially come for Adam’s interview results.
