Chapter 31: Chapter 31: Playing Possum?

Soon, Qin Hongbo found out what Shi Yaoguang meant by saying she accepted the challenge.

Shi Yaoguang had just used a computer to log into his forum.

She had exposed his alternate ID and posted a new message.

The content of the post was simple.

#I am Qin Hongbo, and I falsely claimed that Shi Yaoguang swore to rank first in her exams. I am corrupt and unworthy of being a teacher. I apologize to everyone!#

Following that, his main account replied in the first comment, "If Shi Yaoguang can rank first, I’ll resign and get lost immediately! Please everyone witness @Principal @Academic Affairs @..."

Seeing Shi Yaoguang tag all the higher-ups registered in the forum with a single click, Qin Hongbo’s face turned as black as the bottom of a pot.

He didn’t believe Shi Yaoguang had the capability.

Rank first?

With her, always skimming the bottom as the worst student?

Does she merit that?

All Qin Hongbo felt for her was contempt, he didn’t think much of her at all.

Even so, he was displeased with Shi Yaoguang posting using his account.

Why should he have to leave if she ranks first?

He’d worked hard to get the position of homeroom teacher, there was no way he would give it up easily.

Resign? Impossible!

Qin Hongbo thought about deleting the post.

He clicked the "trash can" icon several times, but nothing happened.

"Why can’t I delete this?"

He muttered, visibly annoyed.

A teacher from the same office came in with textbooks and seeing him like this, asked, "Mr. Qin, what’s wrong with you?"

"The forum post won’t delete," replied Qin Hongbo without looking up. "Probably the server crashed."

The teacher who followed into the room added, "No way, I just heard students discussing the forum issue."

He paused, then said, "I heard you made a bet with your student, is that true?"

"It’s false!" Qin Hongbo ground his teeth as he spoke: "That was her unilateral decision, it has nothing to do with me."

"No wonder," the other teacher remarked sympathetically. "I was thinking, Mr. Qin, you don’t seem like someone who acts impulsively, talking about resigning and asking the principal to supervise."

Qin Hongbo: "..."

Shit.

He was unable to delete the post, and more and more people were learning about his swear in the forum post.

Even teachers from other offices came to ask if his announcement of resignation was true; he dismissed them irritably.

Having no other choice, he had to ask the director in charge of managing the forum to help delete the post.

The director agreed.

Yet, the post still wasn’t deleted.

Not only the post Shi Yaoguang made but also the initial rumormongering post he made couldn’t be deleted.

Qin Hongbo lost his temper, "How could it not be deleted? What if..."

Seeing him like this, the director kindly comforted him, "Young Qin, don’t worry too much, isn’t that Shi family’s student poor in her studies? If she could really rank first, wouldn’t she have been promoted long ago?"

Qin Hongbo felt instantly relieved upon hearing this.

Exactly.

Shi Yaoguang is a thoroughgoing poor student, the fighter jet among trash!

How could such a person suddenly turn things around?

With this thought, he felt reassured.

Feeling relaxed, he then thought about motivating the students, ensuring they wouldn’t let Shi Yaoguang outperform them in the upcoming exams.

...

The seating for the baseline exams was randomized.

Shi Yaoguang pulled her exam number and went to the corresponding classroom.

Coincidentally, she saw Shi Yiqing there.

Her seat was diagonally in front of Shi Yiqing, to her left was the twin-ponytailed girl who had told her about Teacher Qin’s alternate ID, and to her right was a tall, thin boy with black-rimmed glasses.

The baseline exams at the start of school covered six subjects, spread over two days, with a total of 750 points for Chinese, Mathematics, English, and the combined arts and sciences tests.

Before the exam began, Shi Yiqing, with her delicate, long, willow-like eyebrows furrowed, came up to her and performed an earnest, heart-to-heart talk.

"Sister, I heard that you made a bet with Teacher Qin? How could you do something like that..."

She sighed, a look of helplessness and worry on her face, "We all know about your grades, if you do badly this time, Teacher Qin definitely won’t let you off easy, what will you do then?"

Shi Yaoguang hummed nonchalantly, "Can’t you wish me some good luck?"

Shi Yiqing’s face flashed a hint of awkwardness, "This... I do hope that you perform a bit better, it would put mom and dad at ease, but your grades..."

Shi Yaoguang interrupted her, "Since you’re hoping for my best, then keep your heart in your stomach and stop worrying about nothing, okay?"

Shi Yiqing’s eyes reddened slightly, "I, I understand..."

Shi Yaoguang clicked her tongue, "Did I scold you?"

Shi Yiqing timidly shook her head, "No, you didn’t."

"Then why are you cowering? Pretending to be a quail?" Shi Yaoguang observed her up and down and nodded appreciatively, "Hmm, quite similar indeed."

Shi Yiqing felt deeply humiliated.

She glared at Shi Yaoguang with anger, biting her lower lip, "Sister, I’m genuinely concerned about you, why do you have to treat me like this?"

"How did I treat you?"

"You, you..."

Shi Yiqing couldn’t choke out a word, but tears welled up in her eyes.

Seeing a beauty in tears, someone immediately couldn’t stand it any longer.

A voice thick with rough edges accused Shi Yaoguang indignantly, "Xiao Qing is worried about your exam results, she came specially to care for you, how can you humiliate her like this?"

Shi Yaoguang looked puzzled, "When did I humiliate her?"

She wasn’t pretending; she was genuinely confused.

What had she said? How had that become humiliation?

The twin-ponytailed girl to her left quietly explained, "You just said Shi Yiqing looked like a quail."

Shi Yaoguang blinked, "Is there a problem with that?"

She mimicked Shi Yiqing’s demeanor, shrunk her neck, and made a timid face, "Isn’t that what quails look like?"

Everybody: "..."

Vivid and lifelike, beyond rebuttal.

Shi Yiqing, who hadn’t yet had the chance to employ her "pear flowers bathed in tears" tactic... froze on the spot.

That’s how she was, glaring at Shi Yaoguang with tear-filled eyes.

Shi Yaoguang cast her a faint glance, "Did I say anything wrong?"

"For the first seventeen years, you took my place in the Shi Family, playing the young lady for so many years; but in the end, you can’t even compare to me, a country girl who joined halfway through! Look at you, all scared and shying away, not fit to be seen in public, do you still have the face to feel wronged?"

Shi Yiqing felt even more aggrieved, "Sister, you’ve misunderstood, I just felt that since you’re my sister, that’s why I..."

"Are you trying to say, because I’m your sister, so you act all meek and obliging in front of me, is that it?"

She nodded, her expression full of grievance.

"So that’s it, looks like I’ve misunderstood you," Shi Yaoguang said with a moved expression, "Everything you do is for my sake."

Shi Yiqing showed a look of shame which lasted only a moment before it was shattered by what came next.

"I believe what you do is all for my benefit, you are wholly devoted to me, you even deign to stoop so low as to test marriage for me, I shouldn’t have doubted you."
