Apocalyptic World: Surviving with my husband and my cute little babies-Chapter 144: Mental states
Chapter 144: Mental states
Within a few days, the rain eased significantly, allowing people to leave their pest-infested buildings and seek refuge at government or military evacuation centers.
However, the water level continued to rise, particularly on the 12th floor of Camel Tower Building C, which was already flooded, forcing the residents to leave their units.
Despite the circumstances, the residents rejoiced, believing that the typhoon would soon end, unaware that this disaster was merely the beginning.
Meanwhile, Elena watched the kids joyfully drawing on the sofa in Grandpa Caldwell’s unit.
She hoped to understand their feelings through their artwork, especially in light of the disaster they were facing.
Although she wasn’t an expert, she believed this was the best way to help them express their emotions.
"Stop bothering your friends, Little Mia. Focus on your drawing," Elena instructed, noticing the restless little girl.
Little Mia had already finished her drawing and was now watching the others, asking questions about how they drew so well as she waited for them to finish.
After being called out, she handed her drawing to Elena.
"Sis Ewe, look at my dwawing! I dwew evewyone," she said proudly.
Elena quickly examined her drawing but was puzzled by the stick figures.
"Little Mia, who are these?"
"That’s Dad and Mom, busy working. This is Grandpa and Poochi with Mimi, taking care of the animals. Grandpa and Grandma Ford are harvesting fruits; they’re busy too. Everyone is busy."
Elena noticed the frustration in Little Mia’s eyes and quickly comforted her, trying to help her understand why the adults were preoccupied.
"Don’t be sad, Little Mia. The adults are working hard so you can have a bright future. Maybe next month, they’ll be able to focus on you again," she replied, planning to discuss Little Mia’s feelings with her parents later.
"Sis Ewe, do they not want me anymore?"
"Your dad and mom love you the most. Don’t say that, okay?"
"But why doesn’t Dad wead me bedtime stowies anymowe?"
Elena knew that Uncle Anthony had been busy with the industrial processor, trying to finish it as soon as possible, which meant Little Mia often went to bed without seeing him.
However, Uncle Anthony and Aunt Liza made an effort to have breakfast with her every day before starting their tasks.
"He was working late for his little princess’s future. How about little Mia visits her dad later, instead of just waiting for him?"
"Yay, okay, Sis Ewe!"
"But where am I in the drawing?" Elena teased.
"Here, hiding inside the house, taking care of the baby."
Elena almost laughed; Little Mia was so advanced in her thinking.
Even though she had only been pregnant for a month, Little Mia seemed to sense what was coming—she was already imagining her sister Elena inside the house, taking care of her baby.
Every day, she would visit her unit and eagerly ask when the baby would be born.
The only issue was that she would knock early in the morning, which slightly annoyed Ethan, as it woke his wife, who was sleeping soundly.
Of course, Elena scolded her husband for being grumpy.
She loved it when Little Mia visited, as she had become her daily alarm. Besides, it wasn’t too early—just after Little Mia had finished her breakfast. freewebnσvel.cøm
"Alright, you have a good drawing this time. You can go back to your seat," Elena replied, relieved that, despite Little Mia’s frustration, she seemed to be in a normal state regarding the disaster.
However, when Elena saw Little Lucy’s drawing, she was stunned.
Little Lucy had depicted a dark spot along the building, with people being swept away by what she described as water.
In the drawing, she is also being carried away, separated from her brother. She cries, but no one comes to help.
"’Sis Ele, the water outside is the black spot. I am afraid of it,’" Little Lucy confessed honestly.
Whenever she saw the water outside, it reminded her of the dark days during the City C tsunami.
"Okay, don’t be afraid. Your brother will protect you from this black spot. Besides, the people here will look after you."
Little Lucy simply nodded, and Elena resolved to speak with Aunt Liza about finding a remedy for her fears.
Aside from Little Lucy, everyone else appeared to adapt well to the disaster, though the thunder outside still instilled a sense of fear in them.
She sighed in relief.
In her past life, the apocalypse had wreaked havoc on people’s mental states, leaving many unstable and fragile, burdened by trauma, loss, and the relentless grip of uncertainty.
That’s why she was determined to understand the children’s state of mind; she wanted to find ways to help them if they showed any signs of instability.
Well, she herself had also faced mental health challenges after losing everyone in her past life. Fortunately, she was given a chance to start over, a gift she cherished deeply.
As she gently touched her belly, she tried to let go of her painful memories and instead focused on the hope and opportunities that awaited her.
She then looked at the kids playing joyfully, smiling at their enthusiasm.
Thank goodness, with proper care, they all seemed to be doing well. Still, she planned to find a psychiatrist to ensure their well-being.
Soon, Elena spoke to the adults about what she had discovered, encouraging them to be more vigilant not only for the kids but also for everyone around them.
Everyone nodded in agreement.

Five days had passed since the howling wind outside had finally ceased.
The rain had turned into a drizzle, no longer strong, but the clouds above remained dark, with no sunlight breaking through.
Still, it gave the people hope that the typhoon had finally stopped.
They cheered from their balconies, celebrating their survival after two months of continuous rain and the various disasters that had come their way.
Meanwhile, Elena and the others were busy inside space, redoubling their efforts to prepare for future disasters. They knew that the situation could change at any moment.
And later that evening, things took a drastic turn.
The temperature suddenly dropped, leaving the people helpless against the unexpected chill.
