“Good!” Nan Fei took five more ten-dollar bills from the small wallet she had sewn herself and placed them on the table. “This is for my Granny Huo’s nutrition, as she will be staying here. It would be a trouble for you to take care of her.”
“Are you trying to flaunt your wealth now that you’ve made some money?” Guan Rufang frowned, huffing, “How long have your Granny Huo and I been old friends that you need to give us money?”

“No, it’s not that, I’m starting school soon, and there’s not enough time to take care of Granny Huo.”
“Take it back, take it back. I’m just annoyed seeing you. Don’t waste my time here, go as far away as possible.” Guan Rufang began to drive her out, rudely showing Nan Fei the door.
With fifty dollars in her hand, Nan Fei could not help but feel a sense of bitter amusement.
She still had matters to discuss with her grandma! There hadn’t been time to speak. No matter, nothing is more important now than her younger brother. She decided to temporarily put all her thoughts aside until her brother overcame his difficulties, then she would start to think about the development of their family.

When Yuan Xueshan brought Huo Jinlan home, she was busy with bathing, changing clothes, and serving cold soda to her daughter to cope with the heat. Huo Jinlan had been crying all the way back home, her heartbroken sobs making Yuan Xueshan ache.
Only when Jinlan finally fell asleep from exhaustion, her voice hoarse from crying did Yuan Xueshan feel relieved enough to leave the room.
Once she left the room, she noticed it was already dark outside and realized with a start that Granny Huo hadn’t returned yet, which gave her a cold sweat.
Over the years, she had been living under the shadow of her mother-in-law, feeling stifled as a daughter-in-law and not treated as the mistress of the house. Now with Jinlan speaking up for her and her own business flourishing, she finally felt a sense of freedom, of course, she was happy.
But when she heard about Granny Huo’s accident during the day, her instinctive reaction was to seek Jinlan first with a bit of a vindictive thought. But she dared to do this only when her husband was not around.
She didn’t dare to do more.
Now that it was dark and Granny Huo had not returned, she began to regret her previous actions and felt a sense of unease. She left in a hurry, running all the way to the hospital, where she ran into a young doctor on duty.
Yuan Xueshan recognized this young man, Shi Jiajun, a student of her husband’s. Normally he was very respectful towards her and would come out of his office when he spotted her from afar. Today, however, she’d walked into his office and he hadn’t so much as a lifted an eyelid.
Yuan Xueshan coughed once, which prompted the young doctor to finally look up.
“Hello.” He responded, his expression indifferent and distant.
Without the respect he usually showed, Yuan Xueshan felt a little lost, “Hi, I heard that my mother-in-law came to the hospital today. Could you tell me how she is doing and where she might be right now?”
Shi Jiajun responded expressionlessly, “Granny Huo did come in the afternoon. She had a fracture in her lower leg, but she has already left. As for where she went, I have no idea.”
His glasses refracted a ray of light in the lamplight as he counter-questioned, “You are Principal Huo’s wife, Granny Huo’s daughter-in-law. You should be the clearest about where she could have gone!”
Yuan Xueshan turned pale, not sure whether it was from fear or from the sting of Shi Jiajun’s words.
“Not here? Then… then where could she have gone?” Yuan Xueshan stumbled over her words and collapsed onto the chair behind her, unable to stand up for a good while.
“I’m off duty now!” Shi Jiajun took off his white coat and hung it on the coat rack nearby. Before he left, he glanced at Yuan Xueshan, “Elderly people need careful and patient care.”
Even though he was dissatisfied, there were some things he simply could not say.
