Betrayed By The Hero, Loved By The Lord-Chapter 320: Family (1)
Chapter 320: Family (1)
Xavier walked with his mother up to where Selene was waiting for them.
"Is there something you want to say to me, Xavier?" Josephine asked, assuming he was curious about what she had spoken with Nathaniel about.
"No. I already know that you two will be back together, and it doesn’t concern me. You won’t be able to resist each other. He’ll show up before you a few more times, and then I will hear that you are with him. It is fine," Xavier said.
Xavier had little to no interest in stopping Josephine from going back to Nathaniel once she was out of his home.
"You might be right. I am only a little tired of our marriage right now. We’ve been together for so long, and I never realised I could take a break to enjoy myself. It truly might be a curse to live so long. One of us would have died by now if we were human," Josephine said.
Josephine held onto Xavier’s arm as they walked. "I am going to be out of your hair in a moment. I have welcomed Selene to come visit me. You must help her find ways to enjoy herself with either social events or friends. It’s tiring to be in this family."
"It was tiring for you because your husband didn’t know when to cut his family off. Selene will be fine. I shall make sure of it," Xavier promised. "Still, thank you for the advice."
"I think I want another one of you," Josephine said, causing Xavier to step away from her.
"Please don’t."
"Why? I am quite young for a pureblood, and there’s no limit to when I can’t have another child. You should see this as good for you. There would be someone else for your father and the Blackthorns to bother," said Josephine.
"That’s why you shouldn’t do it. I don’t want a sibling born as a distraction. Only have another child if it is something that you truly want. Besides, I am one of a kind. There’s no telling that the sibling would be as wonderful as I am," Xavier said, knowing it was unlikely.
"You came from me, and I am something wonderful, so all my children will be grand. I will leave quickly so I can pretend that I didn’t see you two clearing out a room. Selene, there are more things inside for me to get," Josephine said, since there was more room on the cart.
"I will be up shortly to help you," Selene informed Josephine. "You are flying around a lot now. Maybe you should only do it when there is something important."
"Getting back to you two was important. I know you are curious about who will be king. It is Michael," Xavier shared.
"That is good to hear. I was worried about it going back to Darius or Vivienne’s family. Hopefully, with Michael on the throne, you have very little reason to visit the palace. I can partly relax now," Selene said, sighing in relief.
Xavier’s brow was raised as he had many questions. "Partly? Haven’t all the people who bother you been taken care of?"
"Your dungeon is still quite interesting," Selene said, referring to the princess. free𝑤ebnovel.com
It was always on her mind that someone could come looking for Morgana. It puzzled Selene why they hadn’t come looking for her yet.
"The dungeon is fine," Xavier said, not concerned about anyone showing up at their gates.
"Will you kill her?" Selene asked.
"No," Xavier replied. "Not unless she does something else foolish. Sometimes it is best to let them sit and think about their actions. Had she behaved, she wouldn’t be in that position."
"I would love to keep speaking with you, but I must help my mother gather her things," Xavier said, leaving Selene’s side to go to Josephine’s room.
Selene smiled. "That is kind of you. Wait," she realised.
"We have important duties to get to. We cannot do it if she is here. Wait for me," Xavier said, planning to make his mother’s departure a quick one.
Selene shook her head. She should have known right away what Xavier intended to do.
"This shall be interesting," Selene said, following Xavier upstairs to see how he would help with Josephine’s departure.
In the end, Josephine’s leaving the estate took longer than Xavier wanted, but to Selene, it was a good sendoff for Josephine since there was more time to spend together.
Now, months later, Selene and Xavier were the next ones to leave the estate.
Selene was the first to enter the new mansion Xavier bought well out of town. They were far away from the palace, so no one would bother them here.
Agnes entered behind Selene in a panicking state.
"When are you going to take time to decorate your home, Agnes?" Selene asked.
Thanks to Xavier, Selene’s childhood home was fixed and ready for Agnes to move in just as Selene promised.
"I shall make time for it," Agnes said, but she didn’t intend to. She was quite busy these days between her work for Selene and the times she got to meet with Isaac, who had much work with the court.
"I know you well, Agnes. I can hear it in your voice that you won’t make time. I shall give you time so that you can do it. Though I have a feeling you will use that time to be with Isaac. Agnes," Selene said, standing still. "Must you walk like that?"
"Lord Blackthorn gave me strict orders that I am to stay close to you, and Harold has been complimenting me these days. I don’t want to disappoint them. More importantly, I must always look after you," Agnes said, taking a step back from Selene to give her comfort.
Xavier left Selene to meet with her parents and grandfather to guide them to the home. It was Selene’s second time seeing her parents after they left, but her first time in this new home since there was good reason for them to change homes.
Agnes nearly fainted when she saw Selene’s parents were alive. She tried to think of how it was possible, but couldn’t find any answers. Thinking of how much Selene trusted her to keep the secret was enough to make Agnes stop guessing.
"I have to put up with all of you stalking me, along with the Blackthorns growing more and more curious. I should run out to get away from all of you," Selene said, continuing to walk into the home.
Agnes’ eyes widened. How would she tell Xavier about his pregnant wife running away?
It would be the end of her life, and not even Isaac would be able to save her.
"Lucas," Agnes said, turning to the silent guard for help.
"If she runs, I will be with her to guard her," Lucas replied.
Agnes smacked her forehead. "That is not the right answer."
