Chapter 308: I miss you
"I have something I’m going to need to do on my own this weekend." Andrew told Maxwell while they were at home, a few days later. The weekend was quickly approaching, as was Maxwell’s follow up appointment with the doctor.
Maxwell was curled up on the couch, cream blanket tucked around him as he read a book. Andrew was folding laundry. Half of the house was already packed, courtesy of Maxwell’s connections, and it was the part of the house that neither of them really used.
Andrew was sure that was going to change once they moved into their new place.
Maxwell looked up, his eyes narrowing as he stared at Andrew.
"Does this have anything to do with what we did earlier this week?" Andrew wasn’t following Maxwell’s train of thought, not right away, until Maxwell made an obvious look over Andrew’s body, his eyes lingering on his cock. Andrew’s face flushed.
"N-No! It’s nothing like that! I just...now that I know I can confidently leave the house and manage on my own, at least for a few hours, I just want to go...visit my Mom and do a few other things on my own." Maxwell’s expression melted immediately, all suspicion leaving his body.
"Oh Baby. You don’t have to ask me to do that." Maxwell told him and Andrew’s ears burned. That wasn’t all he was doing, but that was the biggest part of what he was doing.
There was no way, in this life or another, where Andrew was allowed to get married without discussing it with his Mom. So, before he met up with Amir and Amir’s grandmother at a coffee shop on Saturday, tomorrow, Andrew needed to bring her into the loop. And clean up her resting place.
He felt like a bad son that he hadn’t been able to do so, and he told Maxwell as much.
"I just feel bad. I’ve been a bad son. I haven’t been caring for her all this time and-why do you look like that, Maxy?" Andrew asked as Maxwell started to look guilty. He closed his book, his ears pink.
"Don’t get mad, okay?" Maxwell said carefully and Andrew stared at him. What on earth had Maxwell done that would make Andrew mad?
"Okay?" Andrew replied, the clothing in his hands forgotten. Maxwell looked away from his gaze, scratching at his cheek.
"I might have...hired a team to look after your Mom’s resting place. I was...doing it to curry favour with her and with you. You know, show off that I could take care of her son. I’ve been doing it since you manifested." Maxwell told him, before he awkwardly cleared his throat. "I know, that’s a bit excessive but...I just wanted to prove myself." Andrew didn’t know what to say.
He put down the fabric in his hand, moving towards Maxwell and sat down next to him on the couch. Maxwell wasn’t expecting Andrew to reach for him and pull him into a tight hug.
"Andrew?" Maxwell sounded confused as Andrew chuckled.
"You are such a blessing to my life." Andrew told him quietly, pulling back to kiss him on the lips. Maxwell stared at him, a little flustered before he melted into his touch.
"You aren’t mad?" Maxwell said against Andrew’s lips and Andrew chuckled.
"How could I be mad at a man who was just making sure my Mom was well taken care of in my place? There is no way that could happen." Andrew said before kissing the man he loved again.
Somehow, the book was forgotten, the laundry lay unfolded as the two of them enjoyed their company together, Andrew just as smitten with the man as the first time he’d laid eyes on him.

Andrew dressed warmly, knowing that this was going to be a long chat. He’d had Maxwell go into a flower shop for him yesterday to pick up some flowers for his Mom. He knew his limits, and flower shops? They were still a bit much for him and his more sensitive nose.
The flowers in his hands were cold, and Andrew stared at the bouquet with hydrangeas in them. It was a hard flower to source at this time of the year, yet here Maxwell was, making sure his Mom got what she deserved.
And they weren’t blue either.
Andrew noticed the extra presence here, noting it was probably from Maxwell. From the way that they bowed slightly towards him, Andrew was pretty sure that was the case. When he made his way over to his Mom’s resting spot it was spotless. The stone shone, the vase he’d had built into the top was cleared and cleaned and Andrew felt a smile touch his lips.
He’d brought a chair, a little camping one with him, as well as his Mom’s favourite wine. Maxwell hadn’t asked any questions, his eyes watching him as Andrew dressed up to go speak to her. He smoothed out his suit, helped him select a tie that matched and kissed him goodbye.
Maxwell was going to go to the hospital with his Mom this time, giving him some privacy. This was a step towards healing his trauma too, and Andrew assured Maxwell that if he needed something, he was to call him. He didn’t care that he was visiting his Mom, his Mom would understand this.
Maxwell had just smiled, nodded, but knew that Luis was more likely to call him in his stead.
Andrew sighed as he set up his chair, popped the cork on his wine and stared at her name, and length of her life. The flowers were stunning in the cold weather and he felt his cheeks crease before he took a swig from the bottle and poured some out on the ground.
"Hey Mom." Andrew’s voice cracked slightly. "It’s...been a lot longer than I would have liked, but here I am. I’m...probably looking a little different from the last time you saw me, huh?" Andrew reached into his mouth, pulling up his lips to show off his teeth. "I’ve got these now. Crazy, huh?" Andrew laughed before he sat down in the chair. It creaked with his weight and the cold, but Andrew wasn’t worried it would break.
It had held him all this time, it would continue to hold him until the fabric frayed.
"I’ve got a crazy story to tell you. I know, I know, me and my wild imagination but..." Andrew gulped. "Just don’t get too mad, okay?" Andrew told her, staring at her headstone. "I was kidnapped by my ex and experimented on until I manifested as a true alpha. There. Ripped the band aid off. It sounds pretty awful, doesn’t it?" Andrew laughed, more at himself than at the situation before he sighed. He took another swing from the bottle. "It was hell." Andrew admitted to his Mom. "Some of the worst things I’ve ever experienced. I honestly...don’t know how I made it through it all, but I have to think that you were there, looking over my shoulder, protecting me."
Andrew let out a wet laugh.
"That, or I have some crazy good luck, but I think that’s probably ruled out." Andrew joked. Andrew stared at the wine bottle in his hands, the gloves he had decided to wear hiding how his hands were shaking.
"I...I’ve been having a hard time without you around." Andrew told her. She probably knew, but it was better not to lie to her. "I’ve missed you so much. There have been so many times recently where I’ve wanted to call you, go to our house and tell you what’s going on with my life but I know that you aren’t there. I didn’t think losing you would be...this hard. I know this isn’t the first time I’ve said this to you, and if we’ve honest, probably won’t be the last but these last few months have been...exceptionally hard." Andrew’s eyes watered, blurring his vision.
"Why didn’t you tell me you were working so hard for us? Why did you keep it from me? Was I...unreliable? Were you planning to tell me about the company? About what you had built with your own hands? Maybe it’s on me that I didn’t put the pieces together, but you should have told me! I know it’s foolish to get upset at you about this, but I’ve just-It was just hard to realise that there were more parts of you that I never knew. Or I didn’t look at too closely." Andrew sniffed. "I keep meeting people who knew you, people I don’t remember but who knew you, Mom, and I feel out of my element."
Andrew wiped at his face, taking another sip of the wine.
"I wasn’t coming here to make this a sad day. I promise. I just needed to rant at you for a bit. Complain. You were always so damn secretive that it drove me insane. Maybe that was how I was able to leave without letting the others know. Got it from you." Andrew said, his lips twisting.
"I have someone I want to marry, Mom. I mean it. He’s...gosh, he’s perfect. I thought he was a fairy the first time I met him. He has these big, blue eyes that look through your soul as if he can see who you are at your essence, and a sharp tongue. He’s super smart too, and always keeps himself looking perfect. He’s shorter than I am. Oh! I also grew another fucking head in height. Sorry for swearing, but it makes sense. I’m a giant compared to him. It makes kissing him hard." Andrew told her, his cheeks hurting with how big he was smiling. "He’s got black hair, cut to the perfect length. He’s so sweet Mom. He’s perfect and he accepts every part of me. We started as friends and I just...I should have broken up with my girlfriend the moment I met him." Andrew admitted quietly.
"I think I was going to end up with him, no matter what. He’s a businessman. Started his own company to help others like him and that’s where I’m working right now. His family is great too. A little confusing and a little complicated, like all families. Oh, his last name is Beckett. You can probably guess who it is, can’t you? Me? Marrying someone who is a Beckett? Can you imagine that?" Andrew laughed, the feeling strange as he stared at the grave. ƒreewebηoveℓ.com
"He’s actually the one who hired all of the people to look after your grave while I was unwell. Said he wanted to make a good impression on you. Isn’t that sweet?" Andrew choked up. "You would have, you would have loved him, Mom." Andrew pushed his glasses to the side, letting the tears come. "And I know he would have loved you." Andrew’s voice caught on the hot lump in his throat.
"I’m sorry I’m crying. This was supposed to be a good moment. I just...I just miss the fact that you aren’t here to celebrate with me. To help me pick out a ring for him. To be at all of the moments going forward. You aren’t going to be able to attend my wedding and I just..." Andrew put the wine bottle down on the ground and sobbed. "I miss you, Mom."
