Then she walked away, her footsteps echoing on the wooden floor.

Caroline’s screams followed behind her, but Mandy didn’t turn back.

She just stared out the window, sipping the same juice she hadn’t finished earlier.

For the first time in days... she felt refreshed.

She also called her mother and told her everything.

In an instant, the case against Aurora was withdrawn, and as compensation, Mandy’s mother even asked the police officers to apologize to Aurora the next day.

Aurora was informed the same.

"Hm? Is Mandy that generous?" Aurora muttered.

From her perspective, Mandy was a nosy and unreasonable person.

Caroline’s matters weren’t of Mandy’s concern, yet she went out of her way to make Aurora’s life hell.

However, seeing Mandy crying and taking revenge on Caroline, Aurora decided to ignore her.

She had taken her revenge and was satisfied that both Caroline and Mandy had suffered. Now she could sleep peacefully.

Or so she thought.

Staring at Adriana, who was chatting with a huge smile on her face, sitting in her living room, Aurora felt an itch in her hand.

She wanted to beat Henry.

Just how did that jerk spin off the story that Adriana is still acting like a teenage girl in love?

"Take a deep breath, Aurora! You can’t get angry! Just think about how only you can change their fate!"

Feeling better, she walked up to Adriana and asked with a teasing smile,

"Sister, with whom are you chatting?"

Adriana was startled and patted her chest,

"You scared me..."

"Is it your boyfriend?" Aurora pressed on.

"Hm." Adriana nodded and continued to chat. Suddenly, she paused and said,

"Aurora, the waitress from the last time...you should stay away from her."

Aurora wasn’t reconciled and said with a sad face,

"If you hadn’t mentioned it, I would have forgotten to tell you about her. You know she ended up in the hospital. Her ex-boyfriend somehow got to know that she filed a complaint...sigh...god knows who told her ex-boyfriend everything."

"What?" Adriana was stunned before her expression turned grim, and she asked,

"Aurora, tell me, how do you know so much about this waitress? And are you sure it was her ex-boyfriend?"

Aurora blinked, pretending to look surprised.

"Huh? Why are you looking at me like that?" she said, biting her straw and sipping her juice again.

Adriana leaned forward, her eyes sharp.

"Answer me, Aurora. How do you know all this? Maybe she is trying to manipulate you by seeking this information from you?"

’You are the one who is getting manipulated!’ Aurora screamed in her heart.

"Eh? But how would that benefit her?" She continued to ask with a confused expression.

Adriana bit her lip.

She suspected that Adeline knew about Adriana and Henry’s current relationship, and from what Henry had told her about Adeline’s crazy personality, maybe everything Aurora knew was all orchestrated by Adeline!

"Just tell me." Adriana insisted.

Aurora scratched her head and tried to act innocent.

"Well... I kinda overheard some nurses talking when I went to visit my classmate in the hospital. They said something about a girl being attacked after reporting someone. I asked around a bit and found out it was the same waitress."

Adriana’s face was serious now. "You should stay away from this stuff, Aurora. It’s dangerous."

Aurora puffed her cheeks and crossed her arms. "I am staying away! I didn’t do anything!"

But inside, she knew she was the one who gave the hint to the ex-boyfriend.

"Do you know the hospital?" Adriana asked.

Aurora’s eyes lit up, and she nodded her head.

"Yes! It is the City Hospital. Room no 303."

"Okay." Adriana nodded.

Adriana grabbed her purse and left the house quickly.

Her heart was pounding, and her hands were a little sweaty.

Why do I feel like there’s something more to this? she thought.

She didn’t tell Aurora where she was going, but she had already made up her mind.

She rushed to the City Hospital, walked through the quiet hallway, and found Room 303. She took a deep breath and knocked.

The door slowly opened, and inside, a girl with a pale face and bandaged arm was lying on the bed.

"Are you Adeline?" Adriana asked softly.

The girl looked surprised but nodded. "Yes. Who are you?"

...............................

30 minutes before.

As soon as Adriana left, Aurora pulled out her phone and called Adeline.

"Hello?" a soft voice answered.

"Adeline, it’s me—Miss Dawn," Aurora said, using the fake name she had given before. "Are you okay now?"

There was silence for a moment, then Adeline replied, "Yes... And thank you. I heard you helped me. I really appreciate it."

Aurora felt a sharp pain in her chest. Her lips trembled a little.

"No," she said quietly. "Don’t thank me. I should be the one saying sorry."

"Huh? What do you mean?" Adeline asked, confused.

Aurora looked out the window, gripping her phone tightly. "It was because of me... Henry found out about your next move."

"What?!" Adeline almost shouted. "How?!"

Aurora bit her lip and took a deep breath.

"My cousin sister is dating Henry.. I wanted to show her his true face. So I told her about your past with Henry. I thought she would break up with him..."

Aurora paused,

"But instead, she asked him about it. And that’s how Henry got to know about you again... and what you were planning. I’m really sorry, Adeline. I didn’t think it through. I only wanted to protect Adriana, but I ended up hurting you."

There was silence on the other end of the phone. For a while, Adeline didn’t say anything.

"...I see," Adeline finally said. "So that’s how he found out..."

"I’m really sorry," Aurora repeated, her voice barely above a whisper.

This time it was truly her mistake.

Adeline was stunned. Her heart ached, but somehow... she didn’t feel angry. She just felt tired.

"You were trying to protect someone you love," she said quietly. "I can’t hate you for that."

’I just hate I don’t have someone like you, for protecting me.’
