Chapter 331: dinner

Jules’ pov

Before the dinner even began, I just knew tonight was gonna be something else. My guess and speculation was proven right when shortly after the dinner began, Kim broke the comfortable silence.

"Why don’t San tell us how he and Roy met?" He spoke loudly, an eyebrow arched as he eyes locked with Roy’s. Roy had his lips in a thin line as he returned his chicken soap into his plate to let out a small sigh.

"I don’t see how it’s any of your concern." Roy said calmly but kim only let out a laugh.

"Of course it’s my concern! We were friends before, weren’t we? Or wasn’t that what you told San?" Kim continued and Roy was clearly grinding his teeth together as he stared at his plate.

I cleared my throat, trying to stop the fight before it break out and ruin tonight’s dinner.

"Actually you know what? You’re right. My boyfriend, San, will definitely be happy to indulge you." Roy suddenly spoke to my surprise and I watched as he nudged San who took a small sip of his water before seating up straighter. He beamed at us and even Kim flashed him a smile in return right before he began to speak.

"So, Roy and I have known each other for years." San began and Kim hummed as he cut into his meat, a thoughtful expression across his face.

"That’s... surprising, because he has never mentioned you to me before." Kim said slowly, his eyes settled on Roy for a moment. San’s statement had definitely been unexpected but right now, I expected him to be hurt by Kim’s admission but he looked like he expected it.

"Oh that’s because we used to have an on and off relationship for a long while. And of course, since we’re always trying and failing to forget about each other, we don’t talk about ourselves to our friends." San explained as he took another sip of his water.

His explanation made a lot of sense but it still surprised me that Roy had someone he had been unable to move on from this whole time. It’s surprising because if this was true, then it means he only tried using Kim as a rebound. That made me begin to feel a little anger directed at Roy, but I was quick to remind myself to not jump into conclusions because clearly, there’s still a lot that doesn’t add up or make sense to me so far.

"Oh wow." Kim finally breathed out and San nodded, oblivious to the multiple emotions dancing through Kim’s eyes right now. That was the first break in his facade tonight, one he was quick to right before more time would pass.

"Yeah. Like, whenever we met, we swear we’ll not speak to each other, but we always end up falling into bed together. Over and over again." San continued and I glanced over to Roy whose eyes were pinned on his still filled plate.

"Wow..." Kim stated this time as he reached for his glass of wine to sip on it."

"Yeah. Isn’t that funny?" San demanded as he laughed and I forced myself to laugh when he glanced over at me. He was very sweet to me so far and since technically I was the host of this house; I owed him niceness at least.

"It sure is." Kim stated, but he didn’t look amused. He didn’t look annoyed either.

"Roy and I tried and failed to leave each other. We even tried to get together with other people just to forget each other. Roy told me he tried getting together with someone here just to try to forget me, but..." San was still speaking when Roy cut him off.

"That’s enough, honey." His voice was sharp and he didn’t look happy. San looked sheepish as he took a small sip of his water.

"Sorry, I got carried away." He sighed out.

When I glanced over at Kim, he had a blank expression on.

"Why did you make him stop? Just when it was starting to get interesting." Kim said in a low voice, no traces of playfulness in his voice. I glanced from his Stoney face to Roy’s bleak one and between them once again.

Blaze was still silent when I glanced at me. He had been quiet throughout this entire dinner, and he only shrugged before shaking his head when I kept staring at him, a clear indication for me to not get involved. I swallowed emptily just as I turned back to Kim and Roy.

Roy massaged his forehead before speaking.

"Kim, please. You know..."

Kim cut him off almost immediately. "Actually I don’t. I don’t at all, Roy. But I used to think I did. My bad." Kim responded in that same low emotionless voice.

San glanced between the two of them, genuinely looking lost and confused.

"Is something wrong?" He asked tentatively and I watched as Roy reached out to massage San’s shoulders as he spoke.

"Nothing’s wrong, baby. Just speaking to my... friend."

After that, it would have sounded if a pin dropped.

When I glanced over at Kim, he was throwing his wine back. He was pushing his chair back and getting to his feet in the next moment, a sweet smile across his face.

"Tonight’s dinner was lovely and the only thing lovelier after the meal, was getting to stare at San’s pretty face throughout." He spoke and San’s pleased, soft giggles filled my ears for a moment. Kim was clearly being sarcastic but it didn’t seem like San understood sarcasm.

"For now, I’ll like to excuse myself. Do have a lovely night everyone." Kim added right before he turned around and headed over to the door. He was disappearing after getting it open with the bit of magic he had managed to master so far.

After Kim left, the rest of us remained in the same spot as an awkward silence settled over us.

The only person who seemed to be completely oblivious to the awkward atmosphere was San, who chatted our ears off throughout the rest of the dinner.
