Chapter 311: Get Away

Han and Adrian had won, but something felt wrong. They weren’t being called back to the third floor like they were supposed to. They were stuck in the trial zone.

"What’s going on?" Han asked once his wounds healed.

"I can’t believe they’d go this far..." Adrian mumbled, shaking his head and getting ready for the next battle. "Keep your mask on."

Han was stunned when Adrian cut his elbows, letting the blood flow out. Seconds later, a thick, poisonous fog surrounded them. Adrian looked around, waiting for what he knew was coming.

However, Adrian didn’t need to worry about Han, as he was teleported elsewhere after a second, leaving him alone.

"Tsk, there goes my meat shield."

Unfortunately, Adrian’s instincts were spot on. A moment later, the ground beneath them exploded, and a familiar figure emerged from the hole.

"Bellerophon," Adrian mumbled, dodging the rubble.

However, unlike their last meeting, Bellerophon wasn’t wearing a gold armour. Instead, he was wrapped up in chains like a prisoner and was carrying a spear. Despite his entire body being riddled with wounds, his rage-filled red eyes were fixated on Adrian.

But Adrian wasn’t surprised. He knew Bellerophon would be punished eventually and then would come chasing after him. But what the latter said came as a surprise for him.

"You ruined everything," Bellerophon hissed, pointing his spear towards Adrian.

"You did a half-assed job," Adrian smirked. "How is it my fault?"

Bellerophon didn’t waste another breath on Adrian and lunged at him. Adrian rolled and dodged the attack before sweeping at Bellerophon’s feet, but missed. freewēbnoveℓ.com

"But what about the penalty? No one can dodge that," Adrian taunted, his eyes never leaving Bellerophon.

"I don’t care about it!"

Bellerophon snarled, his chains clinking as he moved. He swung his spear in a wide arc, forcing Adrian to jump backwards. Bellerophon had turned into a crazed bastard.

Adrian couldn’t believe anyone would say they didn’t care about the tower’s punishment. Maybe it was because Bellerophon had nothing left to lose. His reputation was already ruined, and someone like him, with nothing to lose, was one of the most dangerous enemies to face.

Besides, Adrian knew fighting Bellerophon head-on would be foolish, and even though the poison seemed to have some effect on the demigod, the effects were minimal.

The only thing Adrian could do was to stretch their fight and hope the floor Admin would notice the fight sooner rather than later.

"You’re slower than before," Adrian said. "Are those chains weighing you down?"

Bellerophon roared in anger, his attacks growing more ferocious. He thrust his spear forward, aiming for Adrian’s heart. Adrian sidestepped, trying to knock the spear out of his hand, but failed as Bellerophon backhanded him.

A player on the lower floors could never beat a ranker from higher floors. That was a long-standing, unchangeable law. That’s also why Bellerophon was confident in his win despite the looming cloud of the Tower’s penalty.

As Adrian continuously dodged the attack, Bellerophon’s rage only intensified. He swung his spear with incredible force, driving Adrian back.

"You think you’re so strong," Bellerophon growled. "But you’re just a nuisance."

"A nuisance that keeps beating you," Adrian shrugged, deflecting another strike. "I wonder what that says about you, Mr Ranker."

Bellerophon’s eyes blazed with fury. He feinted with his spear, then swung it down in a powerful overhead strike. Adrian barely managed to block it, the force driving him to one knee.

"You’re done, Mortal," Bellerophon spat, pressing down with his spear.

Adrian gritted his teeth, his muscles straining against the force. "Not... yet."

Suddenly, the air around them crackled. Both men felt the hair on the back of their necks stand up. Bellerophon’s eyes widened in surprise, his grip on the spear loosening.

"What—"

Bellerophon wanted to say, but was cut off as a bolt of lightning shot down from the sky, striking him squarely in the back. The force of the lightning bolt sent Bellerophon flying across the forest.

He crashed into a series of trees; the impact shattering the chains that bound him. Smoke rose from his scorched back and the acrid smell of burnt flesh filled the air.

Adrian gasped for breath. The sudden release of pressure from Bellerophon’s spear was a relief, but the pain in his chest was still intense. It was then Adrian understood that even a demigod’s power was nothing to scoff at.

He struggled to his feet, using Bellerophon’s destroyed spear as a crutch. His eyes were fixed on the demigod, who lay crumpled on the ground, twitching and groaning in agony.

"So that’s... the tower’s penalty," he mumbled. "I would not want to be on the receiving end of that. You should have known better, Bellerophon."

Hearing the mortal call his name, Bellerophon tried to get up. But his movements were sluggish and uncoordinated and he fell again.

"This isn’t... over... I’ll... I’ll-" he said, trying to get off his knees.

However, just then, another bolt of lightning arced down from the sky, striking Bellerophon again. This time, the force of the blow was even more powerful, and Bellerophon screamed in pain before collapsing completely, his body limp, but the slight rise and fall of his chest showed that he was still alive.

Dragging himself to Bellerophon, Adrian raised his hand. It was time for some harvesting. But just then, another cackle echoed through the forest, but only this time, it was the admin.

"Why do these bastards always cause trouble for me?" the fey mumbled, kicking Bellerophon.

"Would you mind getting out of the way?" Adrian called out, clearly annoyed by the admin’s interruption.

"Ah, it’s you," the fey waved his hand before turning back to Bellerophon. "Don’t worry, I’ll teleport you to the fourth floor shortly. But first, let me get this corpse out of here-"

Just then, Bellerophon’s broken spear flew past the fey’s head. Stunned, the admin angrily turned around to realise Adrian was in his beast form.

"What’s the meaning of this!?" the fey called out.

"You tell me?" Adrian snarled. "You’re the one trying to cover up your tracks."

"W-What do you mean?"

"Don’t take me for a fool. You’re the one who screwed the trial from the beginning and then froze the space so I couldn’t leave," Adrian said, walking closer to the admin.

He continued, "Then you allowed Bellerophon to enter the restricted zone and attack me. When the tower interfered, you got scared and are here to cover your tracks, isn’t that it?"

"How... how did you..."

"If you don’t want the other admins to know about this," Adrian pushed the admin back. "then get out of my way. I’m not letting you take the damn corpse. Got it?"
