Chronicles of Forgotten Extra-Chapter 136: Trial Commenced?
Alden put the Spirit Pearl back in his pocket.
The Spirit Pearl had eaten the Mana Suppression device like it was some kind of snack.
It pained Alden's heart to see the expensive bracelet be gulped like that.
But well, whatever...
Someone said, free things are hard to digest.
He dismissed it with a thought.
Should I just train again?
Nah… I'm just gonna sleep.
Alden had entered the training hall with the intention to train, but with all that pressure put on his body by the Mana Suppression Device, his body ached. And the mood to train was also gone.
He walked out of the training hall and made his way towards his bed.
It was still way too early.
Alden was a thorough night owl and slept quite late usually.
But today, with all that happened, his mind drifted to sleep just as his head hit the pillow.
___
In a place where time did not exist, a boy walked.
His steps were slow and steady. The only movement in this vast space.
There was no sky. No ground. No sound. No color. Only shadows. Only silence.
He did not know where he had come from.
He did not know where he was going.
He did not even know who he was.
But still—he walked.
One step. Then another.
His feet never grew tired, yet they pained. His heart never beat, yet it throbbed in his chest.
The void stretched infinitely in all directions, yet something urged him to keep moving forward—as if forward even meant anything here.
Keep walking.
The thought wasn't his. It didn't come from within him, yet it echoed through his whole body.
And he obeyed.
Step. Step. Step.
He had forgotten his name.
Forgotten his face.
Forgotten the world.
But even in that forgotten shell, something existed deep inside him—
A memory. A promise. A name.
I have to meet—
I must… reach…
…waiting…
But who?
The names in his mouth turned incomprehensible.
"I… a…m… @&$%..."
His words were glitched and fragmented. The voice was hoarse.
The path never changed. The silence was still there.
Until something happened.
Far ahead—so far it shouldn't have been visible—a small light appeared.
The boy stopped.
His head snapped toward that direction.
And for the first time—his crimson eyes shone.
It wasn't with clarity.
But desperation.
He ran.
He ran...
The void started shaking under him.
He didn't know why—but that light was important.
He had to reach it.
If he didn't—something would be lost forever.
He sprinted through the endless black, but the light never grew closer.
He screamed—but no voice came out.
Just then—
Cracks appeared in the void.
A heartbeat.
But not his.
The entire realm trembled as something began to awaken.
No. Remember.
"You promised…"
"You failed…"
"You are Forgotten…"
"You are not him…"
Multiple voices echoed. They were layered over each other like ghosts, and yet all of them sounded like… him.
The boy collapsed to his knees, clutching his chest.
Immeasurable pain coursed through his body and mind...
It was unbearable.
Visions—too fast to follow—flashed behind his closed eyes.
Blood. Feathers. Fire. A dying world. A hand reaching out. A voice. A girl crying. A sword buried in light.
Then—
A single whisper.
Soft. Gentle. Familiar.
"Alden…"
His crimson eyes widened.
And the void shattered like glass.
__
In a lavish room, a boy slept on a massive bed...
His face had a pained expression as if dreaming something bad...
He reached out his hands in the empty air as if reaching something outside of his grasp, his eyes still closed...
A soft voice... echoed... from his mouth.
"I'm… sorry..."
Just then his crimson eyes snapped open.
Huh?
Why am I crying?
Alden wiped the tears in his eyes... his whole body was covered in sweat, and his eyes bloodshot as tears dropped nonstop.
He wiped them, but the tears continued to flow...
His heart ached as if he had just felt some unseen sorrow.
What is happening?
Alden felt weird...
His emotions had become eerily calm. But the tears were still flowing.
He got out of his bed and entered his bathroom… he looked into the mirror.
His bloodshot red eyes stared back at him… they were swollen slightly...
Ignoring it, Alden splashed cold water on his face...
Still nothing...
What the hell is happening right now?
The tears continued until his eyes became dry...
Alden stood in front of the mirror, his fingers trembling slightly as he wiped the last of the tears that had long since dried.
His face was pale, his crimson eyes dull from the unexplained crying.
"What… was that?" he muttered.
The mirror didn't give any answers.
Just the reflection of a boy who looked like he hadn't slept in weeks.
He couldn't understand it.
The pain in his chest was still there. It was manageable now, but still there.
He shook his head and left the bathroom.
Only then did he glance at the time.
His eyes widened.
"WHAT THE HELL?!"
The hour hand pointed dangerously close to the time classes started.
He quickly got his morning routine over.
He nearly tripped on his pants as he rushed to wear his uniform.
His tie was crooked. One sleeve was inside out.
But he didn't care.
He was going to be late.
He quickly exited his room, his hair still wet from his shower.
The door closed behind him.
He entered the elevator and made his way out of the dorms.
He reached the first-year building after a few minutes of running.
Made it in time...
Alden smirked... as he had arrived just five minutes before the lecture started.
He entered the classroom.
As soon as he entered he felt something.
The stares.
People were looking at him. No—glaring was a better word...
The whole class had become eerily silent.
Students were pointing fingers at him.
What the hell?
Why are they all glaring at me?
Are they all jealous of my handsome looks?
Alden had some useless thoughts before a whisper reached his ears.
"Is he the scum? The one who seduced the princess?"
As if the silence was broken like a dam... more whispers flowed out.
"Yeah, I heard he forcefully kissed the Princess," a student at the far back muttered.
"Ohhh!!! How romantic," a female student beside him spoke.
"I heard he didn't force, but the Princess and he are having a secret affair," another one whispered.
"I even heard that the Princess is carrying his child," someone else whispered.
Many different hushed voices started echoing.
"Unbelievable. The Princess?"
"He must've threatened her. There's no other way..."
Alden's face turned pale.
The kiss.
He'd forgotten about it.
Forgotten, in the sense that he'd intentionally buried it deep under mental lock and key.
And yet—here it was.
Out in the world.
In the form of rumors.
He had expected rumors.
But what the actual hell is this?
How did it go from a simple kiss to her carrying my child?
Oh no.
He could feel his soul leaving his body.
"I heard the Emperor has already sentenced him to death in secret," someone whispered behind him.
Alden's eyes twitched.
"I heard the wedding's next week..."
His neck snapped toward that voice.
A group of girls were sitting together, blushing and giggling.
"I mean… he is kind of handsome."
Is this real?
Is this actually happening?
Just then—
"Everyone, sit."
Professor Sorin's cold voice echoed as he entered the classroom.
The whispers died down soon.
Alden sighed in relief and walked to his seat, hiding his face behind a book.
Aziel was already there smirking.
"How does it feel to be the centre of attention?" he said mischievously.
"Why… Why is my life like this?" Alden whispered slightly.
"Because you are special," Aziel snickered casually.
"Oh, screw you," Alden snapped.
"No really. You are the chosen one. The fated star. The one who—"
"Shut the f*ck up," Alden cursed as he buried his head on the desk.
This day needs to end.
__
By the time classes were over, Alden was mentally exhausted.
He dragged himself to his room, slumped on the bed, and stared at the ceiling.
Alden sighed and sat up.
…Screw it. I need to cool my head down...
I don't care...
I'm gonna attempt the trial now… I won't wait till the weekend anymore...
Fck life...*
He summoned his status window.
__
[▒▒▒▒▒ Trial—You may challenge the trial, but each success increases the waiting time for your next attempt. Death in the trial means death in reality.]
[Next Trial – The host will be teleported to trial within Three days.]
__
He didn't even bother checking his status as nothing had changed.
It had been only a few days since he broke through Intermediate rank after all.
He just stared at the trial description.
He had decided to prepare for it till the weekend before attempting anymore.
Not anymore.
He needed to cool down... run away from the chaos unfolding within the academy even for a while.
Alden focused on the trial part.
As he accepted the trial invitation in his mind.
I accept.
As soon as he thought that, his mind started spinning.
His vision started distorting...
His body stretched endlessly in his vision.
