Chapter 59: First Dragon Lesson

Dimitri and Lily made good time flying over Wolf Territory finding a spot on the border to rest for the night. Thankfully there weren’t any attacks or ambushes as they made their way West. The scenery was just as beautiful as Lily had hoped it would be having seen it from the ground it was amazing to see from the air.

Landing in a clearing close to the river Dimitri touches down softly as Lily moves to slide down. Shifting Dimitri catches her as she hits the ground a little unsteady. "Ooh take it easy. Flying for long periods can make your legs shaky." He helped her to sit on a bolder close by.

"Thank you. I do have a cramp in my leg. I had hoped to walk out, but I’ll stretch first." Dimitri listened to her as he went and grabbed her pack setting it next to her. Opening it Lily looks for a muscle cream she liked to use when her muscles cramped. Dimitri pulled on his robe looking around at the area. It was clear and open the river rushing by as the forest was settling down for the night.

"I’ll go and gather wood. Stay here." Lily nodded standing to remove her pants after taking her boots off. "I’ll be here. If you don’t mind catching a few rabbits or quail that would be great. I can start on a meal for us." He nodded kissing her before heading out to find his dinner before he made her a meal.

Lily smiled seeing the flustered look on his face as he went to find firewood and food. Using the cream on her outer hips and knees the relief was helpful so she could move around again. Pulling out a skirt and slipping it on, Lily went about pulling out her cooking supplies and some vegetables she had packed. Pulling out her small water distiller and a jug she went to the river to pull some water for cooking.

The distilling would take a minute so she went about finding small twigs and some dry grass to start a fire with. Thinking about that she had an idea to ask Dimitri when he came back. Setting her findings next to her pack she sat waiting for him to come back. The sun was setting as the colors in the sky changed from reds/ oranges/ blues to a stary night.

The fireflies were starting to come out as the moon rose to peak above the tree line. A couple of them flew in front of her almost dancing with the way they moved. Lily smiled as they rose higher to their other friends floating about. Checking the distiller the water was ready so Lily cleaned her vegetables and pulled out her knife and a small pot to fill.

Lily felt eyes on her as she turned her head to see Dimitri watching her as he approached her. He had three rabbits in one hand and a big bundle of wood under the other. "I hope you didn’t feel like I was taking too long." Lily shook her head no, continuing to chop her vegetables into the pot.

"No, but I do have a question for you. Can you show me how to reach for my inner fire? I am part dragon and would like to know if that might have been something I inherited." Dimitri thought about this since she was a cool-headed person so this should be a good first lesson. "Alright, I can show you. Are you done chopping?" Looking down she realized she finished wiping the blade clean, putting it back in her back.

Walking over to where he set the fire pit, he sat waiting for her. Sitting next to him tucking her legs under herself she waited for his instruction. "Clear your mind and picture the fire in your soul." Lily did so seeing a burning light small, but strong. " Now reach for it with your mind and feel it come out like a stream. Don’t be afraid of it. If you are not pushing the emotion the fire doesn’t react to it. Aim for the fire pit."

Lily did as he said, letting go of her anxiety to concentrate on the fire. Taking a deep breath while envisioning the flame in her heart she reached for it, forming the stream in her mind as her throat became hot. Aiming for the fire she almost missed going over it then calming her excitement down as she lit her first fire.

"I did it!" She smiled up at him seeing the pride in his face and seeing her accomplish her first dragon lesson. "You did well. Shall we finish up to eat?" Lily nodded setting her three tall rods over the fire handing the pot from them after securing the loop at the top. Seasoning the stew Dimitri went about skinning the rabbit cleaning away the fir and guts. "Save the heart and liver they are good sources of nutrition."

He tossed them into the pot and then chopped up the meat into pieces. It was the first time Lily felt like a domestic couple with Dimitri. Being a prince has a lot of demands and she knew he only had so much time to be with her, but here cooking a meal with her made her feel that much closer to him. Leaning her head on his shoulder as he finished pouring the meat into the pot he kissed her forehead.

They sat like that for a moment enjoying each other company watching the fire flicker and the fireflies in full force with the sun down and the moon rising. "Let me go wash my hands."

"There is some clean water in the jug there use it." Lily told him as he went to the river rinsing his hands off. He came back sitting next to her drying his hands with his body heat, the steam coming off fast. "Showoff." He smirked at her knowing the pot of stew would take a bit to cook.

The thoughts running through his head as he looked over at his mate who was looking far too tempting in a skirt. Pulling the tie from the end of her hair, letting all that wildness free, all he wanted to do was get lost in the mess. "We’ve have a bit of time to wait and I’m starving for you."
