Clown Game-Chapter 44 - 35 Sticky Task Five
Chapter 44: Chapter 35 Sticky Task Five
Chapter 44 -35 Sticky Task Five
“Little child, don’t be naughty, the creepy uncle has found you, tear off your head, peel your skin, let your blood flow, chop you into mud…”
Chen Xiao didn’t know where he had learned this nursery rhyme, but he started humming it in this incredibly tense atmosphere.
After that, the atmosphere became even tenser.
“I’m counting to three, drop the gun, or else I’ll blow your head off!” Li’s team leader still said in his calm tone, but it conveyed an unmistakable sense of authority.
“1”
Chen Xiao still casually looked at the stone: “What’s wrong, don’t you know how to sing this song?”
The stone remained silent.
“2”
“Strange, it seems like since we’ve entered this room, you haven’t spoken at all, have you?”
Li’s team leader furrowed his brow. Prompted by Chen Xiao’s observation, he realized that the stone had indeed suddenly become silent.
Although he was puzzled, now was not the time to worry about this. He stared at the maniacal figure in front of him, his finger touching the trigger.
“3”
As the word “3” was spoken, Chen Xiao also spoke.
“Come on, smile, are you… afraid to open your mouth?”
…
The moment of truth!
Li’s team leader did not pull the trigger; it seemed as if he had suddenly thought of something. His brows were tightly knitted, clearly struggling with an internal battle.
Afterwards
…
He actually slowly turned the gun barrel toward the “stone.”
This scared the hell out of Mouse: “Hey, hey, hey, what’s going on, Team Leader Li, what are you doing?”

He said in a panic, holding two guns and watching Chen Xiao and Li’s team leader, not sure who to point at.
Li’s team leader ignored him and said calmly, “Stone… open your mouth!”
The stone stood there, motionless.
This time, Mouse and the man with gloves also noticed something was off with Stone.
Mouse wasn’t stupid; he too had a sudden inkling of what might be happening, and he anxiously said to the stone.
“I don’t know why he wants you to open your mouth, but… just open it, will you?”
And the gloved man was looking at the stone with increasing worry, slowly turning his gun barrel toward him.
…
Still, “Stone” remained expressionless and silent; of course, he showed no intention of opening his mouth.
“Damn it,” Li’s team leader cursed lightly. It was unclear whom he was cursing at.
“What’s going on!!!” Mouse shouted, “What the hell is happening!”
Stone’s gaze swept over everyone, his eyes void of any emotion.
He slowly opened his mouth.
A pool of sticky substance oozed out, falling to the ground with a “splat.”
Li’s team leader’s pupils shrank, and he immediately roared, “Get away from him!!!”
But it was too late; Mouse was too close and had no time to react. “Stone” leaned his head forward and a glob of the sticky substance sprayed out, smearing all over Mouse’s face.
And Mouse was knocked off his feet by the sheer force of the blow.
It all happened so fast, Li’s team leader instinctively looked at Mouse, and “Stone” took advantage of this moment to spray another mouthful of the sticky substance at the group. In the scramble to dodge, he darted out of the room at lightning speed.
The gloved man’s face was filled with urgency. In the moment “Stone” burst through the door, he hesitated, and that hesitation cost him the chance to shoot.
Immediately after, a loud bang came from downstairs.
“Thud!”
“Thud!”
You could tell by the sound; it was Stone ramming into the basement door.
Though it was unclear what his intent was, the frail wooden door couldn’t withstand Stone’s strength. After the second sound, the door gave way.
Then came a continuous bout of “retching” noises lasting five or six seconds… and then, it went quiet.
The gloved man wanted to chase after him but realized that going alone could be dangerous, so he looked to Li’s team leader for direction.
At that moment, Li’s team leader had no time for anything else; he was kneeling beside “Mouse,” desperately trying to scrape off the glop stuck to Mouse’s face.
“Forget about him! Save Mouse first!” he shouted.
The man in gloves also rushed over to help, but the mucus was so firmly plastered that Mouse struggled desperately, and some of the mucus had even been sucked into his nose and mouth, on the verge of suffocating.
Then, with a “snap”.
A ballpoint pen was thrown in front of Captain Li.
He looked up and saw Chen Xiao standing at the door, having no idea when he had gone out; evidently, he must have gotten the pen from the next room.
Instantly, Captain Li got the idea, quickly pulled out the refill, and, without hesitation, inserted it down Mouse’s windpipe.
“Huff huff huff~~~”
A rush of air was sucked into the narrow space, and Mouse finally got back his life.
…
…
“Thank you~” Captain Li exhaled in relief, looking at Chen Xiao with some gratitude.
“What’s going on here?” he asked, continuing to fervently scrape off the mucus from Mouse’s face.
With his hands in his pockets, Chen Xiao said, “This thing is something like a parasite. It stays inside the host’s body, eating their organs and, moreover, can control the host’s behavior to a certain extent.”
“Disgusting,” Captain Li interjected with a frown.
Perhaps finding just talking uninteresting, Chen Xiao started again to peel off the nearly dry mucus from his own body: “Actually, I was a bit suspicious right when we entered the house, because before the door was opened, there was no smell of a corpse at all, and all the curtains in the room were drawn. So, who called the police? Even if neighbors noticed a blob of mucus on the glass, at most they might complain to the community management, but it wouldn’t make sense to report a murder.”
At this point, Captain Li also nodded in agreement.
“But at the time, I didn’t pay much attention, because it could be some sort of coincidence or for some messy reason, anyway someone knew about it. This kind of thing is not unheard of,” Chen Xiao continued.
“Then, upon seeing the male owner’s body, I had another doubt, because his internal organs were almost completely gone, and the only wound on his body was a hole at the back of the head. Although it’s easy to think it was caused by something entering through the back of the skull to feed on the organs, to be honest, because of the structure of the human skull and neck, that’s actually quite difficult to achieve.”
At this point, Chen Xiao with a “zzt” sound, ripped off a whole piece of dried “mucus membrane” from his body, smiled with a sense of accomplishment, and continued.
“After that we went upstairs and found the little boy’s body. Seeing that his ruptured eyeball was poked out by something, one could easily connect that the hole in the back of the male owner’s head wasn’t broken from the outside, meaning something inside wanted to burrow out. So, assuming that the organ-feeding creature was inside a person’s body, it’s easy to guess who the mysterious caller was!”
A twitch crossed Captain Li’s face as he thought, “It makes sense the way you put it, but connecting the dots from an eyeball to the person mentioned in the mission briefing as the caller, is that really so easy?”
“After that, we heard the little boy’s call to the police, so this speculation became even more credible, and also explained why the downstairs curtains were drawn but weren’t stained with mucus; after all, drawing curtains doesn’t seem like something a creature that feeds on human organs would do.”
In the meantime, because Mouse had regained the ability to breathe, he too had been actively scraping off the mucus from his face. With the combined efforts of the three, they were able to mostly clear away the mucus. He spat out a mouthful of the mucus he had just sucked in and, while at it, he pulled out the pen tube from his throat, maintaining a bowed head to prevent blood from flowing into his windpipe; he seemed quite experienced with this.
Chen Xiao continued, “Since the parasite can control a person’s movements to some extent, it must have at least some thinking abilities. I even believe that by eating human brains, it can enhance its own intelligence, which is why it would perform an action like making a phone call, something only a ‘human’ would do.”
Rat had already let his wound bleed out sufficiently and then took out from his pocket something that looked like a spray, and he applied it to his throat.
The bleeding at the wound stopped immediately at a speed visible to the naked eye.
“Then why did he call the police?” Rat tried to speak and asked a question.
“It needs food. It has almost finished off everyone in this family so, of course, it has to find the next one,” Chen Xiao said.
Only then did Captain Li catch up with Chen Xiao’s line of thought, “So, you’re saying that the parasite ate up the male owner, then burrowed out of his skull, entered the little boy’s body next, controlled him to call the police, in order to lure more prey into this house, and just now, it burrowed out from the boy’s eye socket, and entered Stone’s body, right?”
Chen Xiao nodded.
“But how did it enter? ‘Stone’s’ skin isn’t…” Before Captain Li could finish his question, he thought of the answer, “Oh, through the mouth.”
Because when examining the body earlier and passing by Stone, he had smelled a rotten meat odor from his mouth, thinking it was coming from the corpse, so he hadn’t paid it any mind.
“No, Stone is in danger!” he picked up the shotgun from the ground in one swift movement, “We can’t let that thing stay inside his body, we have to save him!”
In that moment, Chen Xiao again “ripped” off a piece of mucus and said indifferently, “There won’t be any problems for the time being. Such parasitic creatures will not harm their host in the face of danger, because Stone is currently its only protection.”
It made sense to Captain Li, and he relaxed a bit, “Then can’t it just walk out of this house? It seems like that would be much better than calling the police.”
Chen Xiao shook his head, “It daren’t go out… ”
It seemed like Captain Li understood something and nodded, “Is it because it’s afraid of light?”
“No, actually, it fears sound much more than light!” Chen Xiao explained.
“Huh?” Captain Li looked puzzled.
Chen Xiao, at this moment, again “ripped” off a piece of mucus, and now, his clothes were almost clean, just wrinkled.
“In fact, the purpose of it spitting out this mucus isn’t just ‘nest building’ behavior, more so, it’s to insulate sound. From the adhesion of the mucus, you can see it’s thicker in places where sound insulation is weak, like on the glass, but there’s very little in places that don’t produce sound, like the floorboards of all the rooms on the second floor. This mucus is very elastic and can withstand a lot of pressure; when gathered together, it can nearly dampen the vibrations of a passing train.”
Captain Li’s eyes twitched again, thinking, “Did you climb onto the bed just to test the mucus’s pressure tolerance and cushioning ability?”
“So what do we do now?” Captain Li asked, and at this point, it seemed he had begun to actively seek the opinion of this person whose thinking was graded a “2”.
Chen Xiao didn’t answer Captain Li’s question but instead asked, “Haven’t you guys noticed that something’s missing in this house?”
Caught off guard, Captain Li instinctively blurted out, “What’s missing?”
Chen Xiao stretched out his wrinkled clothes, feeling quite satisfied with them, nodded his head, and let out a sly chuckle.
“The female owner is missing!”
