Chapter 81 -69: The Killers This Time Are of Poor Quality – Part 2
“You . . . what are you talking about?” the man asked, shocked as he stared at Chen Xiao.
Chen Xiao, his eyes vacant, answered with a weak voice, “You’d better calm down now, go turn on the lights and the exhaust fan, find some salt or cooking oil, and if there is none, use toothpaste or crush cigarettes and put them in the washing machine to dry with the clothes. Bring me something high in sugar, the more sugar the better, then turn on the TV to the news channel, open all the windows, boil a pot of water, then find a knife or scissors, a plastic bag, some strong rope! Hurry and do it, because I . . . am helping you!”
After hearing all this, the man took a few steps back, somewhat at a loss as he looked at the man in front of him. He didn’t know what Chen Xiao was planning, but the calm tone of the other man was definitely not that of someone who had been tied up; inexplicably, he even felt that this person might indeed be helping him.

So, the man deeply exhaled a few breaths and managed to calm down a bit.
“I’m going all in!” the man thought. “Since there’s no better option right now, I might as well do as he says.”
…
…
A few minutes later.
The lights in the cabin had been turned on, water boiled on the stove, boring news played on the TV, and the windows were all open. Across the road was his own apartment, and he could clearly hear the outside sounds.
The man came out of the washroom, holding the freshly spun dry clothes, still looking panicked but noticeably calmer than before.
“What do I do now?” he asked.
Chen Xiao, slowly chewing his bread, said, “Cut the clothes into pieces, throw the blood-stained piece into the boiling water, dry the other parts, find a bowl, and invert it over the toilet seat.”
His nonchalant demeanor made it seem like he was describing some mundane household chores.
The man, puzzled, furrowed his brow but nevertheless went to do it.
Soon, the water was boiling, and the man had cut up the rest of the clothes, scattering them on the floor. During this time, Chen Xiao finished his bread and asked for a bottle of milk, idly sucking through the straw.
“What is all this for?” the man asked, lifting his head and glancing at Chen Xiao—his gaze pausing on his lips for a moment before frowning even more tightly.
Chen Xiao forcefully sucked the last bit of milk, and afterwards, the straw sputtered air, making a “hiss” sound.
“Any more?” he asked nonchalantly, lifting the bottle.
The man, seemingly infuriated by Chen Xiao’s relaxed and casual attitude, grabbed the empty bottle out of his hands.
“Damn it, I’m talking to you!” he yelled.
Chen Xiao, expressionless, now that he had somewhat managed his hunger, began to observe his surroundings.
Single, short-tempered, injured at the joints, frequently involved in fights, clearly had worn knuckle dusters, various magazines and papers beside his bed, no cooking skills though spices and oils were in abundance, a mirror on the table arranged like a vanity, had broken up with his girlfriend a few months ago. An alarm clock indicated he woke on time, pants were sweaty but his shirt was clean, indicating daily walks, a job that required changing into a uniform, likely at the convenience store two streets away, hadn’t thrown out garbage for at least two weeks, yet wrappers from instant noodles and bread accounted for less than a week’s worth, had been coming straight home after meals till recently but had changed habit for some unknown reason. Then Chen Xiao glanced at the telescope by the window.
“So that’s it . . .” he thought, nodding internally.
Seeing Chen Xiao remain silent, the man grew even angrier, grabbing Chen Xiao’s collar and bellowing fiercely, “Don’t play dumb with me!!!”
With that, he drew back his fist, ready to strike!
Chen Xiao stared back at him with vacant eyes.
“You killed someone . . . So, was it indoors or outdoors?”
he asked faintly.
The man was startled for a moment, then his anger dissipated completely, like air escaping from a deflated ball, and he slumped to the ground before burying his face in his hands.
He hesitated for quite a while, but eventually spoke in a low voice.
“Inside… on the second-floor balcony!”
His tone carried a hint of despair. He then added firmly, “I didn’t kill her, it was an accident.”
Chen Xiao shrugged, thinking, “Ah… so that’s what happened.”
Then he continued to ask slowly.
“Seeing as you seem quite reluctant to go back, I assume you must have wiped off any fingerprints or such traces.”
The man’s hands moved across his face, threading into his hair, angrily tugging at it.
“I didn’t touch her… She got scared when she saw me, backed up a few steps with a knife, and then… she accidentally fell… By the time I got to her, she was already dead.”
Chen Xiao frowned, as if he had discovered something.
“So, about a week ago, a pretty woman came to the convenience store where you work, and after that, you started following her. Today, when you followed her home, you found her door ajar, rushed in excitedly to do something, she got scared, picked up a knife to defend herself, but accidentally fell and the knife happened to stab her, right?”
The man lifted his head, looking at Chen Xiao with terror, unable to utter a word.
Seeing his expression, Chen Xiao clearly knew he had guessed correctly and smirked.
“When she fell, was she lying on her back or face down?”
Chen Xiao suddenly asked nonsensically.
“Face… face down.” The man, still in shock, responded subconsciously.
Chen Xiao seemed somewhat bored upon hearing this.
“Ah… how boring, then I’ll help you out.”
He muttered nonsensically before turning to the man and saying,
“Since you haven’t left anything behind, this will be easy to handle. Proteins just need to be completely coagulated and then can be burned cleanly. Wait for the clothes to dry, mix them with paper, and burn them in the toilet. The remaining parts can be flushed away directly. This way, there won’t be too much smoke or ash. Wash the dishes thoroughly and place them far away. If there’s any noise outside during this, quickly put the clothes into a plastic bag and hang it outside the window. From this height, it’s hard to see from outside. The place is in an alley, and it’s nighttime. Although the smell will drift out, the chance of the body being discovered is not very great, and even if it is, the distance will ensure no blood traces. The direction of blood spots at the alley entrance might lead the police here, but given the time frame, the police likely won’t investigate too finely, and even if they do, the smoke from burning clothes will have dissipated by the time they get here. So, you’re safe tonight.”
Chen Xiao spoke calmly.
The man stared at him dumbfounded before seemingly snapping out of it abruptly.
…
“Who… are you?” he asked, adding after a moment, “Why do you want to help me?”
Chen Xiao looked at him with a disinterested expression and boredly pursed his lips.
“I’m obviously a poor sod you’ve kidnapped,” he said listlessly.
Suddenly, as if he had thought of something amusing, the corners of his mouth twitched slightly.
“And the reason I’m helping you… well… when you’re bored, you’ve got to find something to do… right?”
