Chapter 102: Chapter 101 Time to Take Medicine

The next morning, Li Ang was about to head out to the pharmacy Master Zhao had introduced to him when a roar of a sports car suddenly filled the entire street.

Li Ang looked toward the source of the sound and saw a silver GTR heading in the direction of his house.

The car door opened, and who could it be if not Baines?

A smile unconsciously spread across Li Ang’s face. There was no helping it, when you were about to own a GTR, no one could keep their lips from turning up.

Although Baines was quite annoying, he had to admit that the man kept his promises.

He had said he’d give him the car to drive for a year, and Li Ang thought he would deliberately delay, but it hadn’t been long at all before the car was delivered.

“You actually drove it here yourself?”

Li Ang asked with a hint of surprise.

Baines, with dark circles under his eyes, showed a trace of sorrow on his face and replied somberly,

“Of course, it might be our last night together, I had to stay by its side.”

Baines’ home was a good few hundred kilometers away from here; judging by his appearance, he must have driven all night, probably flooring the pedal to the metal.

“Take it easy, brother, it’s just a year. When the time comes, I’ll return it to you.”

Li Ang tried to offer comforting words with a chuckle, but it didn’t seem to have much effect.

“One year, it’s a whole year, you know, I’ve only been with it for half a year in total.”

Baines had an expression of extreme pain, a stark contrast to Li Ang’s.

“Please treat it well, don’t press the gas pedal too hard, and remember to always fuel up with 98 octane. If that’s too expensive, give me a call, and I’ll transfer the money for the fuel. Also, make sure to wash it frequently; mud sticking too long will damage the paint, and then there’s…”

Li Ang felt as if Baines was on the verge of tears as he spoke.

“Sorry, I have to go now, my Uber has arrived, and remember! The windshield washer fluid has to be at least good for minus twenty degrees. Don’t buy the cheapest stuff…”

Watching Baines leave with constant glances back, even as he got into the ride-share car and kept peeking out, Li Ang couldn’t shake the feeling that he didn’t just win a car, but as if he had won over Baines’ wife.

Shortly after Baines had left, Charles came rushing over from his home with a face full of shock.

He had been sleeping in a daze that morning until the wild roar of the engine had jolted him awake.

Indeed, the 3.8T twin-turbo V6 engine, 565 horsepower; it was that familiar sound.

Charles immediately got out of bed and rushed outside without even washing his face, only to find the legendary Japanese war god parked right in front of Li Ang’s house.

“My God, did he lend you this GTR?”

Charles asked, astonishment written all over his face.

Li Ang nodded, “You could say that, but to be precise, he lost it to me for a year.”

Seeing the excitement on Charles’ face, Li Ang could understand, but after a few years of being out in society, it was hard for him to get overly emotional about anything.

“By the way, do you have a driver’s license?”

“A driver’s license? Yeah, I got mine last summer. I just haven’t had many chances to drive,” Charles replied somewhat absently.

“How about you give it a try? I need to run an errand, but I haven’t gotten my license yet.”

“Me? Drive it?”

Charles answered without ever having considered that Li Ang would let him drive the car.

To be honest, although driving a GTR was his dream, at this moment, if he really had to take the wheel, he felt a bit scared.

“Perhaps I should pass, I haven’t driven much, and if something goes wrong…”

Charles, nearly 1.9 meters tall, hung his head like a little girl.

“What’s there to be afraid of? Just drive, it’s done. The roads here are so spacious, and there are so few cars, it’s like a driving practice for you, just drive a bit slower.”

Under Li Ang’s encouragement, Charles still became the driver.

And truth be told, although he had hardly driven his own car, he had a surprising mastery of the GTR’s various buttons and controls, and the vehicle moved along quite smoothly.

After nearly half an hour, Li Ang finally arrived at the pharmacy mentioned by Master Zhao, following the navigation.

This pharmacy was located in Chinatown, and in America, it was almost exclusively Chinese patrons who frequented Chinese medicine stores.

Having crossed over for so long, this was also Li Ang’s first time to Chinatown. Seeing the familiar Chinese characters and traditional Chinese elements on the signs truly made him feel like he was “home.”

“Spring Medicine Hall”

Li Ang looked at the sign and then glanced at the information on his phone’s memo, confirming that he had found the place.

Meanwhile, Charles was still studying the surroundings by the car, occasionally showcasing his straight man’s photography skills.

Walking into the shop, the decor was quite quaint. Even if it had been in China, Li Ang rarely saw a Chinese pharmacy decorated in such a traditional style.

Strangely, the only person tending the shop was a black-haired woman in her twenties, which did not seem at all like one of Master Zhao’s friends.

“Hello, is your boss around?”

“My dad is not in, if you have any issues, you can ask me directly,” the woman in a white physician outfit and gold-rimmed glasses with a curvaceous figure said without looking up.

She was reading a medical book on the counter, and from the yellowing pages alone, Li Ang could tell that the book was probably older than she was.

In this day and age, those who read physical novels were already few and far between, let alone those who would refer to such medical texts.

If her father was Master Zhao’s friend, then it all made sense.

After all, Li Ang was just there to get medicine today. He didn’t need an old Chinese doctor. Judging by his daughter’s demeanor, she seemed like a person who was serious and meticulous about her work, so getting medicine from her wouldn’t be a problem.

Li Ang took out the previously written prescription and was about to mention that Zhao Zhengxi had referred him when the female pharmacist spoke first.

“Is this prescription from Uncle Zhao?”

Seeing Li Ang nod, she continued, furrowing her eyebrows:

“This prescription is very potent; your body might not be able to handle it. Didn’t Uncle Zhao tell you?”

“He did, but I want to try it,” said Li Ang, fully aware of what he was getting into. That’s why he didn’t even bother to take out the milder prescription.

With his current constitution exceeding human limits, if he couldn’t withstand this potent medicine, then nobody could.

“That won’t do. Medicine isn’t something to be trifled with. What if there are complications?”

The female doctor raised her head, revealing a delicate and graceful face. Paired with the gold-rimmed glasses, she was the spitting image of a library goddess.

“Let’s do this: come over here, and I’ll take your pulse to see if your condition allows for you to take the medicine.”

The female doctor, without taking no for an answer, stepped out from behind the counter, grabbed Li Ang’s arm, and started to lead him into a small room next to the shop.

Li Ang had no objections. This was a display of the physician’s earnest responsibility. Moreover, he was curious to experience how a Chinese medicine practitioner would take his pulse and whether she could detect anything from it.
