Days as a Spiritual Mentor in American Comics-Chapter 4573 - 3655: Injustice League (7)
Chapter 4573 - 3655: Injustice League (7)
There's no doubt, the three members of the Justice League collaborating in this act had an immediate effect. The Wonder Woman of this universe was on the verge of losing her mind.
They chatted for a while in the room, but they didn't really strategize about any tactics, it was just small talk. Yet in Wonder Woman's imagination, negative comments about her would undoubtedly spread from Diana's mouth.
Not just these outsiders, Diana would certainly expose her in front of others in this universe, then completely replace her position, receiving everyone's welcome and respect.
Even without any evidence, just imagining such a scenario drove Wonder Woman mad.
When Bruce gathered everyone to start watching the video, Wonder Woman seemed crazed, targeting Diana.
With a "click," Bruce pressed the button on the projector. He sat back down in his seat, starting to stare intently at the content on the screen, as if he were searching for flaws with full concentration.
The process of Brainiac collecting American cities was simple, just releasing a beam from his massive spaceship, then the entire city lifted off the ground. As it rose into the air, a spherical glow gradually appeared on the surface. The glow solidified, and the city shrank into a collection item no bigger than a fist.
Bruce paused the video with a remote, then started playing it at slow speed.
"He didn't use any tools," Bruce said, "This should be a form of energy conversion because the light initially wasn't solid; it only transformed into another form of materialized force when it flew into the air, trapping the city within."
"So, the flaw is most likely with the energy?" Clark asked, furrowing his brow, "As long as it's energy, there should be a way to interfere, right?"
Diana propped her chin with her fingers and said, "I find this kind of power somewhat familiar."
Everyone looked at her. Before Diana could continue, Wonder Woman spoke, "Familiar? Of course, it's familiar. In some sense, the light in this footage is just like a table lamp's light, isn't it familiar?"
Immediately, others looked at her with strange expressions. Regardless of the nonsensical and illogical words, Wonder Woman no longer concealed the deep malice in her tone.
"I meant, I think this energy has some similarities with divine power," Diana didn't mind, she just spoke matter-of-factly, then said, "What we see in the footage, enlarging and shrinking things, putting the city under a dome, these are things divine power can do."
"Are you saying you can shrink human cities and put them in a bottle?" the Green Lantern of this universe asked.
"Come on, she doesn't have that ability," Wonder Woman said again, "We're the same person in two different universes, I can't do it, so she must be boasting. There's really no need to make such big claims to attract attention, is there?"
Diana slightly lowered her head and said, "I'm talking about the nature of this energy, not that I can do it. In fact, Green Lantern energy should be able to do it, shouldn't it?"
Wonder Woman immediately turned to look at Green Lantern. Surprisingly, Green Lantern didn't refute her, just fell into thought, then nodded and said, "In some sense, yes. Green Lantern energy can even do more, but the nature of divine power, Green Lantern energy, and the energy Brainiac uses are different, so the way to interfere with them is also different."
"I saw from the footage that the beam from Brainiac's ship was very wide, apart from engulfing the collected city, it should also have affected the surroundings. If there are energy remnants around the nearby cities, then the Green Lantern from my universe should be able to find some samples. As long as there are samples, Batman can reveal the secrets within."
"That's right." Green Lantern nodded, saying, "That's a good idea."
Hearing even Green Lantern praise Diana, Wonder Woman really couldn't take it anymore. She stood up and said, "What are you all talking about?! Why are you listening to this outsider, don't you know they're dangerous?!"
This time, even Green Lantern couldn't help but frown and looked at Wonder Woman, saying, "Diana, what are you talking about? They are the helpers we invited, and we're all discussing solutions together..."
"Okay, okay, stop arguing." Oliver quickly stepped in as a mediator. But in reality, this completely stifled Wonder Woman's words, leaving her full of anger with no outlet.
Stupidity is not scary, what's scary is losing one's mind. Even being both stupid and mad isn't deadly, but if her stupidity and madness couldn't be vented and kept pressing and fermenting in her heart, the explosion's power would be even greater.
Apart from those speaking at the meeting, others actually also noticed that Wonder Woman seemed a bit mentally unstable.
However, considering the prior experiences of their Earth, it was understandable that Wonder Woman was mentally unstable due to excessive stress. But then, something incomprehensible happened.
After the meeting, Wonder Woman directly blocked Diana at the door, questioning her in front of everyone, "What exactly are you trying to do?!"
"What am I trying to do?" Diana seemed very perplexed, she said, "What did I do? What's wrong with you?"
"Don't play dumb!!" Wonder Woman was almost screaming. She said angrily, "What did you do to them?!"
"Who are you talking about?"
"Them! All of them!!" Wonder Woman shook her head on the spot and said, "You told them about me, didn't you?!"
"Sorry, but what do you need?" Diana asked hesitantly, "Are you feeling unwell? How about you go back and rest for a bit first?"
"You damned bastard! You dare to do it but won't admit it!! You spoke ill of me to them, but now you won't acknowledge it!!"
"Spoke ill of you to them? Who are you referring to? Are you talking about my companions?" Diana scratched her head and said, "You mean I spoke ill of you to our companions from the cosmos? Where did you hear that from?"
Diana spread her hands, analyzing it for her: "In fact, I was quite busy recently and haven't logged into Battleworld much, nor have I seen you. I don't even know you, so why would I speak ill of you? Moreover, why would I tell my companions? They aren't very familiar with you either. What benefit would I have from saying bad things about you to them? I have no reason to do such a thing, right?"
Afterward, Diana assumed a sympathetic attitude and said: "I know you might be under a lot of pressure, after all, your cosmos has just undergone turmoil and is facing a strong enemy. It's normal for your mental state to be a bit off. Why not go back and rest for a bit, just leave things here to me."
If it weren't for the last sentence, Wonder Woman might have had no rebuttal. Upon hearing the last sentence, she immediately said sharply and sarcastically: "Ha, this is what you think! You want them to know I'm a madman so you can replace me! Then you'll be welcomed by everyone. I won't let you succeed!!" freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
Everyone in the conference room hadn't left yet. They all glanced at each other, finding bewilderment reflected on each other's faces. No one knew why Wonder Woman was acting crazy.
Listening to what she said, it seemed she was accusing Diana of speaking ill of her. But this was completely inexplicable, as Diana had only recently arrived and basically hadn't spoken much with anyone other than Bruce and Clark.
If it were Bruce and Clark, Diana had no need to speak ill of anyone to them. They're already a team, and Wonder Woman is someone they've only recently met. Why would Diana need to smear an outsider she's known for only a few hours in front of her closest teammates? What's the logic in that?
Moreover, the notion of "replacing Wonder Woman" was even laughable. Considering the chaotic state of Earth right now, inviting her to replace someone wouldn't necessarily be welcomed. Why would she want to put herself in that position?
In the eyes of others, it seemed Wonder Woman was truly exhibiting some mental instability. Her logic was completely fragmented, and her emotions seemed irrational, now venturing into a state of speaking nonsense.
"Don't be like this." Clark quickly stepped forward and said, "You must be misunderstanding. Diana is absolutely not the kind of person to speak ill of others behind their back, we know her well."
"Yeah, you all believe her! Believe this damned liar! She's deceived you all! I'm not what she says I am!!"
Clark's expression turned a bit cold. He pressed his lips together and said, "Diana was right, you might be too exhausted, ma'am. Let me take you back to rest."
Then Clark went to grab Wonder Woman's arm, intending to lead her away. Wonder Woman swatted him away with one forceful motion.
Clark's earlier words seemed comforting, but in fact, were provocative. His "Diana was right" phrase, to a normal person, referred to Diana's earlier suggestion that "Wonder Woman needs rest," but to the somewhat scatterbrained Wonder Woman, it sounded like him endorsing Diana's negative remarks about her.
A person experiencing mental instability cannot comprehend complete logic. They are adept at seizing upon words or phrases. If someone clings to a few individual words in a conversation, completely ignoring their broader logic within the sentence, and insists on interpreting their surface meaning, then their mental state is unquestionably abnormal.
Conversely, if you find yourself gradually losing comprehension of the complete logic in a conversation and can only latch onto a few key phrases, that signifies your mental state is also beginning to deteriorate.
This instability can be artificially constructed, known as the famous "dog whistle effect"—prompting someone to go mad upon hearing certain keywords, even to the point of exhibiting irrational behavior in public, behaving like a madman.
The trio had created a "dog whistle" for Wonder Woman, that being Diana's evaluation of her. Every time this matter was mentioned, Wonder Woman's mental state would be agitated, inciting her madness even further.
"I'm not going back! I don't need rest! This is all her conspiracy, can't you see?! This damned bitch..."
"Snap!"
A loud slap echoed. Everyone was shocked.
How could this Superman hit someone?!
Of course, the Superman from their cosmos also hits people, but not like this—he actually slapped Wonder Woman across the face!
Clark retracted his hand. Diana tugged at him and then said to the others, "Hurry up and take her away, let her get a good sleep, lest she does something even more extreme."
Only then did everyone else hustle to drag Wonder Woman away, to prevent further provocation to the outsiders. Without their strongest Superman present, if these outsiders got angry and started a fight, they wouldn't necessarily stand a chance.
After everyone else had left, Clark sighed, waggled his hand, and said, "I didn't mean to, I was a bit impulsive."
"You did nothing wrong," Bruce said, "I really find it hard to believe that an Amazonian female warrior would use such a word to insult her sisters..."
"Alright then." Diana glanced toward the end of the hallway and said, "The groundwork is pretty much laid, let's go back and prepare."
