Chapter 179: Chapter 179 Clues

“You’ve found the monster’s trail?”

Tangde scrutinized Roger carefully, a trace of skepticism crossing his face.

“Did Vincent let you in on our mission?”

Roger shook his head, “I came in with a guy named Bobby. This factory is hiring, and the pay they’re offering is pretty good.”

“You really should talk with those workers; they chat about everything when they’re off the clock.”

Roger answered.

Indeed, it was Vincent who had leaked the information to him—not a big deal, but it could somewhat affect Vincent’s reputation.

“We’ve done just that.”

A black youth stepped forward, who, along with another companion, had recently investigated the incident site. They had borrowed workers’ overalls and managed to glean some information from the others in the process.

“And the result?”

Roger countered.

The black youth shook his head; it seemed the information they got from the workers was limited.

Tangde took a step forward and extended his hand, “If you’re telling the truth, then welcome to the team.”

“When the job is done, I’ll pay you according to your contribution, and if your contribution is significant enough, you can pick anything you want from the monster’s remains.”

“Captain!”

“Do as I said!”

Tangde interrupted the protest from behind him with a firm attitude.

But then his expression turned solemn, “But if you’ve lied to us, if you’ve deceived us.”

Crack!

Tangde clenched his fist tightly.

“Before I kick you out of the team, I assure you I’ll make you pay a price you’ll remember!”

What the others didn’t know was that Wolff’s finances were stretched to the limit. If they couldn’t solve the factory issue, there was absolutely no way for him to deliver on time.

The loans from the banks and the penalties for breach of contract would all come crashing down on him at once.

So Tangde didn’t have much time; he couldn’t afford to passively wait for disaster to strike and had to resolve the problem quickly.

“No problem.”

Roger clasped Tangde’s hand.

Turning around, Tangde introduced the other people in the room to Roger.

Apart from Lawrence and Michelle, the black youth was named Carl, and another burly fellow was named Beech.

He, like Roger, was a rare traditional Demon Hunter. Roger hadn’t seen his weapon, but judging by the bulging muscles on his body, he seemed to be not far from the human limit.

The black youth, Carl, was keenly perceptive and strong-willed; he was the Spirit Medium of the team, while Lawrence and Michelle were Demon Hunters like Henrik.

The squad consisted of five members and had a well-rounded personnel lineup; they had a bit of a reputation throughout Bordeaux City. They had hunted several Transcendent Beings and were quite well-known.

Compared to them, Roger was an unknown entity, his only credential being the rescue of Ingmar.

However, that incident involved the yet to be fully assimilated Cursed Land, so the outside world did not know the true nature of the event.

What they knew was only a processed version.

Of course, in that version, the most dazzling, turn-the-tide hero was Henrik.

Having learned everyone’s identities and exchanged a few words, the atmosphere in the room eased up considerably.

There were no arrogant or domineering individuals in the entire team; it was clear that Tangde commanded great respect. Although they were all full of doubt about what Roger had said, they appeared to be quite restrained on the surface.

“This afternoon we visited three groups of people. The information we got from them doesn’t deviate much from what Wolff described.”

“Only, Wolff isn’t as generous as he appears—his compensation is meager, and the raise in pay is pitifully small.”

“He’s just won over a few of the key leaders and also resorted to some special means.”

Lawrence said.

“Right, there’s one more thing, the first guy who discovered the monster’s name is Gale. We went to his place but couldn’t find him; he’s an outsider, with no family in town.”

“I asked the neighbors around, and they all said they haven’t seen him come back in a long time.”

“I have a guess,”

Michelle, sitting beside Lawrence, started to speak, “After our investigation, we found that this Gale had a significant conflict with Wolff.”

“Gale was once a foreman under Wolff, but there’s been a rumor in town that Wolff slept with Gale’s wife, which caused the two men to become antagonistic.”

“Gale was indignant in his heart, but he didn’t seem to find any direct evidence, so when he first claimed to have seen a monster in the factory, everyone thought he was seeking revenge on Wolff.”

“About two or three days after the incident, Gale disappeared.”

“The locks on his home were forcibly broken, and it’s very likely that Wolff did it.”

“Even if Wolff didn’t kill Gale, he must have done something to him; among the three sightings, Gale was the one closest to that monster.”

“Without finding him, we cannot confirm much key information.”

Tangde nodded his head.

“We should perhaps ask Wolff again; if Gale is truly with him, then he definitely knows more information,”

Lawrence added.

“Did you find anything unusual in the factory?”

Tangde said to Carl.

Carl shook his head, “Everything here is normal; the occasional remnant soul we find belongs to natural deaths.”

“Besides, the factory workers don’t seem to know much; many are just spreading misinformation.”

As he said this, Carl gave Roger a deep look, evidently not believing what Roger had previously said.

Having compiled all the information, Tangde’s gaze fell on Roger.

“Tell us about your discoveries.”

At least from the current point of view, the investigation of Tangde and the others had reached a stalemate, and Carl, who had also been in contact with the factory workers, believed his inquiry was without flaws.

“Do you have a map?”

Roger stood up, took a map that Michelle passed over, and spread it out on the wall.

“The workers are only aware of two instances.”

Roger drew two circles on the map.

“But from what you’ve said, Wolff has concealed a third instance.”

“If I’m not mistaken, the third one probably occurred here, or here…”

Upon seeing the last two circles Roger marked on the map, Tangde’s eyes narrowed slightly.

“How do you know that?”

“Wolff’s factory is built along the river,”

Roger drew a curve on the map.

“Building the factory here, his purpose is self-evident, but the guy is smart and didn’t directly connect the sewage pipes into the river.”

“Instead, he secretly constructed several pipes; these pipes go underground from within the factory, and then after traveling below ground, they come out at places far from nearby rivers.”

“If I’m not wrong, that monster entered the factory through these three channels that aren’t listed on the building plans.”

“We can’t find its lair, but if we just guard the factory exits on this side, it won’t be long before it shows up on its own,”

Roger said confidently.

What he had just said was naturally not just speculation; after activating Hunter Vision, Roger indeed found traces near the channels that ordinary people couldn’t distinguish.

With solid evidence, he had approached Tangde directly.

The sewage outlet channels were scattered through the factory; even if he knew their general locations, he couldn’t be everywhere at once.

Only by combining forces with Tangde’s numerical advantage could the stake-out plan be executed.

“That’s impossible!”

Just then, someone suddenly objected.
