Demon Hunter and His Cabin-Chapter 204 - Death and Rebirth
Chapter 204: Chapter 204: Death and Rebirth
Chapter 204: Chapter 204: Death and Rebirth
Rivervalley Town, dusk.
All day, the news about the monster sightings at Wolff Factory had been the talk of the town, and although a portion of the population worked in the factory, for the whole town, it was just gossip for leisure time.
The setting sun slowly fell, and the orange glow painted the town with a layer of warmth.
Children returning from play, adults off from work, the entire town exhibited a peaceful and serene atmosphere.
Emily took advantage of the last moments of a store discount to buy some emergency food supplies; she was a woman around 30 years old, slightly overweight.
Not particularly beautiful, she wore a loose plaid shirt and had a pale complexion, not bothering to dress up before stepping out.
“See you tomorrow!”
The clerk greeted in a routine manner.
With a smile, Emily nodded and left with her bag.
“Such a pitiful woman.”
The clerk sighed, “A perfectly happy family, destroyed by a car accident!”
Emily hadn’t driven a car since the incident and hadn’t touched a steering wheel in months.
Perhaps she wouldn’t be able to for the rest of her life.
As the light faded, Emily walked mechanically down the street. After quite a while, when she came to her senses, she looked up to see a familiar street.
What had happened felt like it was just yesterday.
The screech of brakes, screams, the sound of shattering car windows, and then the loud crash; the last image she saw before passing out was her blood-covered husband desperately pulling her from the car.
Tears streamed from her eyes.
The food fell to the ground as Emily squatted down, unable to stop herself from bursting into tears.
Just then, a figure slowly approached her side and squatted down to pick up the scattered food.
“Thank you, I can manage…”
Emily, wiping her tears and looking up, froze at the sight of that familiar face, her body shaking violently.
Joy, doubt, confusion, a mix of emotions intertwined as she stumbled backward and fell to the ground.
The familiar face, the familiar clothes, and apart from the overly pale skin, the man before her was unmistakably her husband!
“Steve, is it you?”
Emily reached out trembling, but her motion froze halfway as she recoiled in horror.
She had experienced too many similar situations in recent months, “This is good enough, just to see you one more time is wonderful.”
But at that moment, after picking up the food, the man stepped forward and took Emily’s hand.
Although the warmth coming from the man’s body was somewhat low, the sense of solidity was something an illusion couldn’t replace.
Emily wept with joy.
Her clouded mind made her unconsciously overlook many issues, “Even if it’s an illusion, it’s good enough!”
Emily held the man’s hand tightly.
“Steve, come with me, let’s go home!”
“The gods must have heard my voice to return you to my side.”
Pulling the man along, Emily ran quickly home, as gleeful as a child, her smile returning to her face.
By the time they got home, it had turned completely dark; Emily turned on the light, first pushing her husband onto the sofa and then picking up her phone, eager to share everything she was seeing with her family.
“My dear, from today on, let’s never be apart, not even for a moment!”
What Emily didn’t know was that, at this very moment, in Rivervalley Town, countless other families were experiencing similar events.
The next morning, before dawn, a car entered the town, which was eerily quiet.
The vehicle slowly pulled over to the side of the road, and a slightly plump middle-aged woman stepped out. The lights were on in a nearby house, indicating that the occupants hadn’t slept all night.
“Bang! Bang! Bang!”
The woman pressed the doorbell a few times and, getting no response, began to pound on the door forcefully.
“Emily!”
“Emily!”
Whether it was her loud voice or something else, it seemed to disturb the neighbor’s dog, and incessant barking filled the air from close by.
Muttering a few curses under her breath, the woman stopped knocking and ran back to her car to retrieve a set of keys.
Click!
The door swung open, and the middle-aged woman rushed inside in a panic.
“Emily, where are you?”
“Mommy’s here to see you.”
Panic was written all over the face of the middle-aged woman.

“Did you call me yesterday and tell me Steve had come back?”
Months earlier, due to a moment of carelessness while driving, Emily had been in a serious car accident; she was lucky to have survived but her husband and the child in her womb had both died.
Since then, she’d frequently experienced hallucinations, but she had never been as adamant as she was last night.
Finding no one on the first floor, the middle-aged woman climbed upstairs in her high heels.
Opening the bedroom door, she found the room in complete disarray, with the sheets and blankets twisted into a heap, as if someone had slept there the night before.
“Emily!”
The middle-aged woman came down the stairs, calling out loudly. Just when she was about to call the police in her frantic state, she suddenly heard a strange noise coming from somewhere on the first floor.
“Emily?”
“Is that you?”
Following the sound, her high heels clicked crisply on the wooden floorboards, and an inexplicable feeling rose in her heart as she drew closer.
The sound seemed to be coming from the back door area.
The middle-aged woman pushed open the door to find Emily sitting near the back door steps, hunched over with her shoulders heaving, a bizarre chewing noise filling her ears.
As she heard the commotion behind her, Emily stopped what she was doing and slowly turned her head around.
Her hair was a mess, her face grimy, her mouth agape, stuffed with brown soil. The act of turning around seemed to put pressure on her stomach, and as her eyes bulged, Emily began to vomit crazily.
Wow!
In the middle-aged woman’s horrified gaze, she saw Emily spew out clump after clump of mud!
“Ahh!!”
The woman’s piercing scream traveled far and wide…
Just then, the barking of the nearby dog also seemed to stop abruptly.
Thirty minutes later, when the middle-aged woman brought the bloated, semi-conscious Emily to the hospital, she surprisingly found many patients with symptoms similar to Emily’s.
“Doctor, what’s happening?”
“Is it a new type of contagious disease?”
Facing the questions of numerous family members, the staff at the small-town hospital were helpless.
“We initially suspect it’s a kind of neurotoxin.”
A doctor stepped forward to give a simple explanation to everyone.
“Please be patient and give us some time. Moreover, we’ve already notified the staff at the Federal Center for Disease Control and Prevention.”
“Please rest assured!”
The crowd felt slightly relieved. After a whole morning of chaos, the sun also rose slowly, but just then, a heart-wrenching scream echoed from a room at the end of the corridor.
The next moment, screams followed one after another, and as people turned around, they saw medical staff struggling to emerge from a hospital room doorway!
