Domination in America, Starting from being a Boxing Champion-Chapter 877 - 628: Golden Melody Awards Ceremony
The fifteenth Golden Melody Awards ceremony was held at the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall on Taiwan Island on May 8.
A total of 56 music companies, 409 albums, and 5247 works were registered for this year's Golden Melody Awards, with the organizers announcing the shortlist in March, ultimately resulting in 125 works being nominated across 27 award categories.
Most of the nominees were local singers from Taiwan Island, including Jelun, Jolin Tsai, Penny Dai, Tanya Chua, Wu Sikai, Harlem Yu, Mayday, Shin Band, etc., as well as singers from beyond Taiwan Island, such as Link, Princess, Wang Lihong, Lin Junjie, Mo Wenwei, Liang Jingru, Chen Yixun, etc.
Compared with the Hong Kong Island Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs Awards, the Taiwan Island Golden Melody Awards are somewhat more inclusive.
Link, along with Zhang Yadong and Princess, came to Taiwan Island to attend the Golden Melody Awards ceremony where he was also invited by the organizers to perform "Long Time No See," the song with the highest play count in Taiwan Island.
"I come to your city, walk the road you traveled, imagining your days without me, how lonely you must be, holding the photo you gave me..."
On the dazzlingly lit stage, Link, sporting a neat haircut, dressed in a black suit, seated before a Steinway piano, performed alone—playing and singing. The piano sounded melodious and his voice was clear, rich, and magnetic, soothing to the ears.
His solid singing skills and strong stage presence made the performance exceptionally moving.
On stage, there was also a pair of ballet dancers, dancing elegantly to his singing and piano music.
And in the audience below, hundreds of formally dressed singers and thousands of fans watched Link at the piano, listening quietly to the music and singing, some with their eyes closed as if lost in Link's voice.
"...to see your recent changes, to no longer talk about the past, just casual greetings, saying to you, just saying, long time no see~~"
Ding ding ding~ Clang!
As the last note of the song fell, Link lifted his hands.
Clap clap clap!
A round of enthusiastic applause erupted from the audience, with many fans from Taiwan Island loudly chanting his name.
"Link, I love you!"
"Handsome Link!"
Link smiled lightly, waved to the audience, then stepped down, leaving the stage for the hosts Jin Yinyin, Lin Zhilin, and Zhang Fei to continue presenting the other awards.
"This Link kid has just debuted; how can he already have such a strong stage presence."
In the front row of the audience, Princess watched Link descending from the stage and commented.
"If you are a born singer, Link is a born star. With his dual expertise in arts and martial arts, if he wants to enter the entertainment industry, there are few who could match him," said Zhang Yadong.
Princess, watching Link approaching from the opposite side, took in his handsome and clean face, tall and straight figure, his attire, hairstyle, bright and deep eyes, as well as the masculine charm and extraordinary temperament that radiated from him.
She had to admit Zhang Yadong was right; Link indeed fit the profile of a superstar.
"Hey, Middle God, you play the piano really well, can you teach me sometime?"
Seeing Link approach, Princess teased him with a beaming smile.
"No problem, but you do need to call me teacher."
Link replied with a light smile, sitting down in the gap between Zhang Yadong and Princess.
Princess rolled her eyes at him, "A 19-year-old kid dares to be my teacher?"
"As long as you dare to call me that, there's nothing I'd dare not be."
Link crossed his legs and leaned back in his seat.
Princess squinted at him with a strange feeling in her heart.
Despite being nearly 16 years younger than her, it was difficult to gain the upper hand in age when interacting or conversing with him. Sometimes he seemed like a peer, other times like an elder who had seen through the world. This mature and stable, even dominant, temperament made her feel like a little girl when with Link.
"Acting all mature, you little kid."
Princess said in a mock-annoyed tone.
Link just smiled lightly, not responding.
Princess, feeling miffed, clenched her fist, tempted to hit him, but then thought it seemed irrational to get angry with a 19-year-old boy.
She snorted softly, turning her gaze to the awards stage, where last year's Best Mandarin Male Singer Chen Yixun opened the envelope and announced the winner of this year's Best Mandarin Female Artist Award was Princess for "Amor."
Clap clap clap!
Applause rang out from below.
After last year's Best Mandarin Female Singer Award was given to the singer from Hong Kong Island, Mo Wenwei, this year it was awarded to Princess from the Mainland, which stands to show the broadmindedness of the Taiwan Island Golden Melody Awards.
"Princess, congratulations!"
Link said with a smile.
"Thank you!"
Princess smiled slightly, hugged him and Zhang Yadong, picked up her dress and went on stage to receive the award, giving an acceptance speech with a somewhat proud yet emotionless expression.
"Hi, Mr. Link, I'm Liang Jingru. I really like your songs."
The Malaysian singer Liang Jingru shyly greeted from the neighboring seat.
"Miss Liang, hello. I'm also a fan of your songs."
Link shook hands with her politely.
Liang Jingru asked him when he would hold a concert, promising to support him when the time comes.
Link said it would likely be next year.
"Hi, Mr. Link, your songs sound very nice in Cantonese too. Have you considered releasing a Cantonese album?"
Mo Wenwei, from the back, called out.
"Not for now, my Cantonese level is just mediocre."
"That's a pity."
Mo Wenwei said she would like to use his music, switch to Cantonese lyrics, and asked if they could talk about it.
Link agreed.
Switching to a Cantonese version still meant royalties for the composer; it was a win-win situation, so there was no need to refuse.
