Douluo: Transforming Xiao Wu into a Zerg Queen Was Just the Beginning-Chapter 2: The Zerg Drone
Chapter 2 - 2: The Zerg Drone
"Crack, crack, crack—"
A series of sharp, grating sounds entered Lin Fan's ears.
He was having a strange dream—one in which he was the Zerg Overmind, ruler of the swarm. Wherever he went, not a blade of grass was left behind. His endless Zerg legions devoured entire worlds, turning them into fuel for the swarm. He led billions of Zerg across the stars, conquering the universe, dominating all realms!
"So... the whole transmigration thing was just a dream?"
Lin Fan muttered as he opened his eyes. Groggily, he turned his head—and to his surprise, he saw a Zerg Drone crawling back and forth in front of him, just like the one in his dream.
"Heh... I must still be half-asleep."
He closed his eyes again and laid back down.
...Wait. Why is this bed so hard?
Reaching around with his hands, he only felt loose dirt and some stray blades of grass.
"Crack, crack, crack—"
The harsh noise rang out again near his ears. Lin Fan's eyes snapped open.
Above him stretched a brilliant blue sky. Sunlight pierced through the towering trees—each nearly a hundred meters tall—blinding him for a moment.
He turned to the side. The strange creature that had emerged from the black egg was now tirelessly hacking away at a giant tree with its massive claws. In mere moments, it had carved halfway through the trunk!
"Crack, crack—!"
With another few strikes, the entire tree trunk snapped and the massive tree began to fall.
"What a sight!" Lin Fan couldn't help but marvel. Watching a hundred-meter-tall tree topple like that was something truly rare.
But... something didn't feel right.
The falling tree's shadow rapidly expanded in front of him.
"Oh sh—!"
Lin Fan scrambled to his feet and dove to the side in a panic.
"Boom—!"
The giant tree slammed into the ground with a thunderous crash, sending up a cloud of dust. Birds took flight in all directions, scattering into the sky.
Cough, cough!
Standing amidst the dust cloud, Lin Fan glared at the monster. I almost died to my own golden finger right after transmigrating! What the hell, does this thing have no brain?!
Suddenly, a sharp pain flared in his mind, and a surge of memories rushed into his brain like a tidal wave.
Lin Fan gritted his teeth and closed his eyes to endure it.
Soon after—
He reopened them, barely able to contain the joy in his expression.
I—I'm actually the Zerg Overmind!
He turned to the creature beside him, stunned to realize what it truly was—one of the most basic Zerg units: a Drone!
"No wonder..."
No wonder it had looked so familiar when it crawled out of the egg, along with that pool of purple-black biomass.
Lin Fan closed his eyes. A faint psychic connection extended from his mind, linking him with the Drone. With just a thought, he could issue commands—and it would respond without question.
Opening his eyes again, Lin Fan, filled with curiosity, gave a silent mental order: Use your full strength to strike that tree.
"Screee!"
The Drone scuttled to the tree and smashed into it with a massive claw.
Crack!
A deafening sound rang out as a huge fracture appeared in the trunk.
This was a hundred-meter-tall tree! For a single Drone to cause such damage with one hit was... incredible!
Overjoyed, Lin Fan gave another command: Drag the fallen tree onto the Creep.
Alongside the Drone when it had emerged from the egg, a unique substance had begun to spread—Zerg Creep. Composed of microscopic bio-organisms, this living carpet could digest and absorb any material, converting it into energy for the swarm.
Creep could also store energy for Zerg evolution, serve as healing ground for injured Zerg units, and much more. Truly a multi-purpose biological marvel. Anywhere it spread, the Zerg could thrive in endless combat. The Zerg were a race born for war and slaughter.
The Drone crawled to the tree's base, lifted it with its massive claws, and began dragging it toward the Creep.
As the trunk touched the Creep, tendrils of purple-black goo reached out and wrapped around the wood, quickly liquefying it and absorbing the biomass into the ground.
At the same time, a notification appeared in Lin Fan's mind:
[Energy collected: 10 points]
After fully absorbing that section of the tree, the Creep expanded by several square meters. Since the tree trunk was so long, the Drone had to drag it over bit by bit, letting the Creep consume it in stages.
Thankfully, the digestion process was fast. Within about ten minutes, the entire hundred-meter tree had been devoured.
The Creep now covered roughly ten square meters. Its surface writhed with microbial activity, visibly more excited now that it had absorbed so much energy.
Through their psychic link, Lin Fan could feel it—this patch of Creep had collected approximately 1350 energy points, including its base reserves. That was enough to begin hatching a Hatchery!
Without hesitation, Lin Fan issued the command to begin incubation.
The Drone crawled onto the Creep, let out a sharp cry, and was quickly engulfed by a surge of black-purple ooze, layer by layer.
Moments later—
The Drone had vanished, replaced by a massive biological spore in the center of the Creep. It bulged like a living organism, grotesque and awe-inspiring.
It was the size of a small house, its surface pulsing with crimson and violet-black patterns. The structure seemed to breathe, expanding and contracting as if alive.
This was the Zerg's most crucial building: the Hatchery.
The Hatchery was the foundation of all Zerg development—responsible for evolution, reproduction, and production. All Zerg buildings were alive. Only when energy ran out would they die completely. It was said that the Zerg's vitality was among the strongest in the universe.
Now that the Hatchery was hatching, Lin Fan sat idly on the ground, thinking.
What kind of world is this?
If the Zerg had transmigrated with him, could this world really be that one? The legendary world where three races waged war for dominance?
Looking at the towering trees and breathing the sweet, clean air, Lin Fan made a few guesses.
It's either a magic-filled isekai world... or it really is that world of endless war!
"Hiss—!"
A strange noise from the trees snapped Lin Fan back to attention.

He saw a bizarre-looking lizard crawling along the tree trunk. Its body was dark brown, with several backward-pointing horns on its head. Roughly 20 centimeters long, it flicked its tongue as it crawled toward a branch.
At the end of that branch, an oblivious little bird pecked at a worm, unaware of the danger.
Lin Fan's eyes lit up. This is my first time seeing a native lifeform in this world! And even better—it was about to go hunting!
The lizard drew closer and suddenly did something that caught Lin Fan completely off guard—
It opened its mouth wide and spewed a stream of fire!
The bird was instantly incinerated and fell stiffly from the branch.
The lizard leapt down after it.
Lin Fan's eyes went wide. It can breathe fire?!
The lizard gulped the charred bird down in one bite, chewing slowly—completely unaware that a shadow was sneaking up behind it.
Lin Fan, gripping a heavy stone, smashed it down on the lizard's skull!
The lizard died on the spot, not even letting out a cry. Lin Fan tossed the rock aside and quickly crouched to inspect the body.
Moments later, disappointment clouded his face. "What the hell? It can breathe fire, but there's nothing special inside it? That makes no sense. Is it not a magical beast?"
"Bzzz—!"
Suddenly, a soft white glow emitted from the lizard's corpse.
Then, a white ring of light emerged, floating slowly upward until it hovered above the body.
Seeing this, Lin Fan froze. A spark of realization flashed in his mind.
"No way... A spirit ring? This is Douluo Dalu?!"
