Chapter 27 - 27: Ten-Thousand-Year Crest-Head Windtail Serpent & the Mysterious Human Girl

Within the Star Dou Forest—

At the boundary between the core and outer regions—

A ten-thousand-year Crest-Head Windtail Serpent was gliding rapidly across the ground, its long body slithering like a shadow. Just ahead, a young girl was frantically running, her face full of panic.

She kept glancing over her shoulder while sprinting through the dense forest.

The girl wore a deep purple, form-fitting battle suit. Her short, violet hair stood out strikingly in the woods.

Her figure was undeniably alluring—gracefully curved, a slender waist that could be held in one hand, and long, toned legs partially encased in sleek thigh-high armor.

A portion of her upper thighs was exposed, pale and eye-catching. But it was her upper body that truly demanded attention: her chest stretched the fabric of her combat suit to its limits, the black lace lining barely containing the generous curves that pushed tightly against the outfit, creating an undeniable contrast against her fair skin.

"Damn it! All I did was kill a thousand-year Ghost Tiger—why did it attract a ten-thousand-year Crest-Head Windtail Serpent?!"

The girl could never have imagined that sneaking away to hunt a relatively strong soul beast for her next soul ring would trigger the pursuit of a ten-thousand-year beast!

If it were just any other ten-thousand-year soul beast, she might still have a chance of escaping using her spirit. But this one—the Windtail Serpent—was infamous for its speed!

A blur of shadow streaked behind her, gliding across the ground like it was flying just inches above it.

In its sly eyes gleamed cruelty and greed—it wasn't in a rush to kill. It wanted to play with its prey.

The girl stole one last, regretful glance at the lifeless corpse of the Ghost Tiger behind her. A large, glowing purple spirit ring hovered above it—so tantalizing, so close... yet already lost.

"Ugh! When I get back, I'm telling my father to come slay you himself!"

She shouted toward the serpent without caring if it could understand. Then, she turned and sprinted for the edge of the Star Dou Forest.

Behind her, the Windtail Serpent suddenly paused. Its slitted pupils reflected a flicker of hesitation as it gazed toward the forest outskirts.

But after a moment, it flicked its tongue, eyes turning fierce once more. It crouched low—then exploded forward, closing the distance in a blur.

Shhhhhh—!

Hearing the noise behind her, the girl's heart nearly stopped. With a sharp cry, she summoned her martial spirit.

Behind her, a deep purple feline spirit avatar appeared, cloaked in mysterious energy. Its sleek fur radiated an aura of stealth and danger.

At the same time, three spirit rings slowly rose around her—

Yellow, Yellow, Purple.

The third ring flared with light.

"Nether Spring Drop!"

She dropped to one knee, spun, and slammed her palm toward the incoming serpent. A deep purple glow surged in her hand, barely visible but filled with potent energy.

"HISS!!"

Caught off guard, the Windtail Serpent was struck squarely on the head. Its massive body jolted, freezing in place, its pupils glazed over with a faint purple hue.

"I got it!" she cried out in relief.

From its dazed expression and unsteady posture, she could tell her skill had worked—Nether Spring Drop had dragged its mind into an illusion!

Now trapped in a hallucination, the serpent wouldn't be waking up anytime soon.

Smirking proudly, she walked up to it and tapped its massive head.

"So much for a 'legendary' ten-thousand-year beast. Not so scary after all."

But then—

The Windtail Serpent's pupils cleared.

It stared straight at her, no longer dazed—its gaze was playful, mocking.

The girl's body stiffened. A wave of cold swept from her scalp to her toes, her limbs trembling.

She had been tricked. It was faking the whole time.

She cursed herself silently.

Damn it! How could I be so stupid? It's a ten-thousand-year soul beast! How could it fall for a mere third-ring illusion?!

The serpent flicked its tongue, hissing softly. To her horror, its expression morphed into a disturbingly human-like leer—its gaze crawling over her body with an unmistakable glint of desire.

Her face turned pale.

She suddenly remembered a warning her teacher once gave her:

"Most snake-type soul beasts are inherently Yin-aligned—cunning, treacherous, and dangerously lustful.

Some won't even spare human women. If you encounter one, escape immediately unless you're confident you can kill it.

If it catches you... don't even imagine the consequences."

Terror overtook her features as her body began to tremble uncontrollably. Her legs gave out, and she collapsed to the ground.

"Ssssss..."

The serpent hissed eagerly, slithering up to her, its gaze locking onto hers, trying to break her will through sheer pressure.

Shhh—shhh—shhh—!

Suddenly, rustling echoed from the jungle.

The Windtail Serpent froze, its head snapping up toward the noise. It let out a threatening hiss, warning whatever was approaching.

Then—silence.

No birdsong.

No insects.

Not even the sound of tiny creatures moving through the underbrush.

The entire forest had gone still.

The crest atop the serpent's head rose sharply. Its massive body grew restless.

Its gaze darted across the surroundings. It didn't even spare a glance at the girl anymore—it just wanted to leave.

Plop!

Plop, plop, plop!

Dozens of round, greenish Zerg organisms suddenly dropped from the trees around it, landing directly in the serpent's path.

They looked like bloated green balloons.

The moment they hit the ground, they rolled quickly across the dirt, attaching themselves to the serpent's body and secreting a thick, sticky fluid.

The Windtail Serpent sensed danger. It twisted violently, trying to shake them off.

But no matter how hard it thrashed, the organisms refused to let go.

Crack!

A thin fracture appeared on one of the bugs—bright golden light leaked from the crack.

"BOOM!!"

"HISSSSS!!"

The green Zerg organisms exploded all at once!

Flames and shockwaves engulfed half the serpent's body. It howled in pain, thrashing and roaring toward the heavens.

As the smoke cleared, a fist-sized hole was visible in its armored scales—blood pouring from the wound, and small embers still smoldering in the exposed flesh, causing agonizing burning pain.

RUMBLE—!!

The ground quaked violently.

From below, a massive, black-armored Devouring Gold Rat burst out, landing hard in front of the wounded serpent. Its red-glowing eyes reflected malice and killing intent.

Its drill-like forelimbs split into spinning crescent blades, each over twenty centimeters long, flashing with cold light as they whirred to life—and slashed down toward the serpent with devastating force!
