Drama Queen Reborn as a Top Student!-Chapter 25 - 024 Knitting Dreams
Chapter 25: 024 Knitting Dreams
A luxury car cruised steadily through the traffic.
In the back seat, a poised and elegant noblewoman stared expressionlessly at the scenery slowly gliding past the car window.
In the front passenger seat, the assistant answered a phone call and then said softly, "Madam, Chief Zhou has arrived."
At that moment, the car’s speed began to slow, jostling its way through the congested traffic.
The assistant’s expression hinted at some anxiety, but the noblewoman in the back remained as calm as a breeze.
To outsiders, the couple exemplified marital bliss and were a beloved pair in Spring City, envied by many.
But only Yan Xue’s assistant could see clearly that this marriage was nothing more than a union of pretenses.
If not for Xu Lang’s arrest sullying the Yan family’s name, the madam might not have gone to any lengths to help him.
The assistant, privy to certain secrets, couldn’t help but sigh inwardly.
Yan Xue’s expression remained indifferent, her elegant brows faintly shadowed with an imperceptible tinge of melancholy.
The sudden ringing of the phone shattered the silence in the car. Yan Xue, lost in her thoughts, remained unmoved.
The assistant gave a gentle reminder, and Yan Xue regained her composure, retrieving the phone from her handbag.
It was a text message from an unfamiliar number containing a URL.
Yan Xue frowned, suspecting it to be a virus.
Just as she was about to turn off the phone, another text message popped up.
Love—rat.
Yan Xue’s pupils constricted sharply.
Instinctively, she clicked on the URL. Immediately, surveillance footage began to play on her phone screen.
Yan Xue watched calmly as a couple walked into a hotel, one after the other, in the video.
Despite their attempts at discretion, she recognized them instantly.
It was Xu Lang and Xie Shiyao.
It was surveillance footage from the hotel they frequented for their trysts.
The frequency? About once every two weeks.
Yan Xue tightly pressed her lips together, her brows furrowed deeply, her graceful face pale and taut with suppressed emotion.
Soon, the footage switched to show a man wrapped up like a cocoon entering the hotel.
The man was tall and completely bundled up, his features entirely concealed.
Then, the footage cut to the hallway of the hotel’s top floor surveillance camera.
The man approached a door, took out a key card, and entered the room.
Yan Xue’s frown deepened.
She replayed the footage three times, and finally, an unthinkable idea began to take shape in her mind.
"Clatter"—her phone slipped from her hand and fell to the floor.
Yan Xue covered her mouth, tears falling uncontrollably.
The assistant asked with concern, "Madam, are you all right? Are you feeling unwell?"
What could the madam have possibly seen on her phone for her emotions to fluctuate so wildly?
The car entered the underground parking lot, and for a moment, darkness enveloped the interior.
Yan Xue clutched at her heart, the pain making it nearly impossible for her to breathe.
All the past coldness and cruelty, once dismissed as insignificant, now became irrefutable evidence weighing heavily on her chest, suffocating her.
Years of marriage—I’ve never wronged you, yet you’ve deceived me to this point.
Xu Lang, you’re nothing but an animal.
"Madam..." The assistant called out in alarm, rushing over to her side.
Yan Xue was both crying and laughing, her face streaked with tears, a portrait of anguish and madness.
"Madam... please don’t scare me. What on earth happened?"
Yan Xue slowly sat upright, meticulously wiping away her tears. From the depths of her bloodshot eyes emerged a glint of bitter malice.
She enunciated each word: "Turn the car around."
The assistant was dumbfounded. "You’re not meeting Chief Zhou anymore?"
It had taken no small effort to arrange this meeting through the Yan family network. Why had the madam suddenly changed her mind?
Yan Xue shot her a frosty glance.
The assistant dared not say more and instructed the driver to turn back.
She ventured cautiously, "Madam, where are we heading next?"
A trace of a cold smile appeared at the corners of Yan Xue’s lips as she adjusted the shawl on her shoulders.
"The Xie family."
~
In recent days, Xie Shiyao had been running herself ragged. Unfortunately, she lacked relevant connections, and the world was full of opportunists eager to kick someone when they’re down; at best, those indifferent were already doing her a favor.
Although she was loath to admit it, at this moment, only the Yan family could turn the tide.
But that woman...
Xie Shiyao paced irritably into the living room.
"Sister Shiyao, have some tea." A gentle voice, like a spring breeze, dispelled her frustration in an instant.
Xie Shiyao looked up. "It’s you?"
Luo Yunqi responded with gracious composure, "Grandma Xie has been feeling unwell these past few days, so I stayed to care for her."
Ever since the news of Xie Beichun’s incident reached her ears, the old lady had fallen ill.
Luo Yunqi had been staying at the Xie family home, taking care of her.
Xie Shiyao had a relatively favorable impression of her and nodded. "Thank you for your trouble."
"Grandma Xie has treated me very kindly. Right now, there’s not much I can do to help, but taking care of her can at least ease some of your worries."
Xie Shiyao appreciated her tactfulness.
"If you have any difficulties in the future, feel free to come find me. Or, if you want to enter the entertainment industry, I can give you a chance."
Luo Yunqi smiled. "Thank you, Sister Shiyao, but this is something I should do."
Just then, Xie Shiyao received a call from Liang Ruofan, and a sudden burst of inexplicable anger surged in her chest.
"Have you been idle these past two days? Do you need me to find you more film roles?"
Luo Yunqi squinted slightly, guessing from the tone that the caller must be Liang Ruofan.
This was an open secret in the entertainment circle, one she’d seen gossiped about in online forums during her leisure.
"Sorry, Yao Yao, I caused you trouble."
"As long as you know." Xie Shiyao, overwhelmed with frustration, couldn’t muster any kind words for him.
"I wanted to ask about Mr. Xie and... President Xu. How are they doing? Will they be okay?" The man’s gentle voice carried an unmistakable trace of worry.
Xie Shiyao retorted irritably, "Of course, they’ll be fine. I just didn’t realize since when you cared about them so much."
"Yao Yao, they’re your family. How could I not care?"
"Miss, Mrs. Xu is here," the butler’s voice echoed from afar, followed by the sight of a graceful figure striding in swiftly on high heels.
Xie Shiyao frowned, unable to hang up in time before a slap landed squarely across her face.
—Slap.
The force sent her stumbling backward. Luo Yunqi gasped and instinctively stepped forward to catch her, preventing an unseemly fall.
The phone flew out of her hand, landing a short distance away on the floor.
Xie Shiyao was stunned, her mind buzzing.
When she snapped out of it, her eyes blazed with venom as she glared at the commanding noblewoman before her.
"What makes you think you can hit me?"
Yan Xue shook out her hand, her height giving her an advantage as she looked down with a disdainful tilt of her chin.
The words she uttered dripped with biting sarcasm.
"After all the grievances I’ve endured over the years, do you think one slap suffices?"
In recent days, strike after strike had already left Xie Shiyao bruised. If Amos was off-limits, why should she fear this woman?
In truth, Xie Shiyao had long resented Yan Xue, dismissing her as merely someone who got lucky in being born into her status and monopolized the title of Mrs. Xu.
"He doesn’t even love you. Stop hogging a spot you don’t deserve!" Xie Shiyao spat angrily.
Luo Yunqi quietly stepped back, attempting to reduce her presence.
In that moment, she found no thrill in inadvertently uncovering the scandal of the wealthy elite—only irritation.
She even regretted being here.
Yan Xue smirked, her gaze a mix of contempt and pity.
"Xie Shiyao, if he doesn’t love me, what makes you think he loves you? It’s truly laughable."
Hearing this, Xie Shiyao reacted as though her tail had been stepped on, her fury erupting instantly.
"He loves me! Of course, he loves me! He promised to divorce you and then marry me! You can’t even have children—why would he ever want you...?"
Xie Shiyao screamed hysterically.
As Yan Xue looked at her, it felt like staring at a mirror of her former self.
Opening her mouth to speak, she eventually swallowed a sigh instead.
Let her remain drowned in the dream she wove for herself. When she awakens, only then will she face the cruelest punishment this world has to offer.
Now, it was far from enough.
"I’ve come to tell you—I won’t save him. Let him marry you from behind bars."
With that, she turned sharply on her heel and left without looking back.
"No—you can’t do this to him...!" Xie Shiyao instinctively tried to chase her, but Yan Xue’s silhouette was already gone.
In the corner, the phone lay face-up on the ground, still displaying the ongoing call screen.
At that moment, the call quietly disconnected.
