Extra's Path To Demon King-Chapter 44: Outer Library
Chapter 44: Outer Library
The merchant had an unsightly expression as he continued to stare at the little boy sitting on the couch hatefully. 1 million was an unreasonable amount even for him. It was almost akin to 1/7th of his entire wealth, it was even greater for the two viscounts.
But what the little thief in front of him commented on was not wrong. The thief definitely had helpers with him, who collected all the evidence related to those thugs who continuously exploited the beggars and commoners.
Such hard evidence, if it reached the hands of higher nobles, they would be furious, and the royal family would also be forced to intervene. After all, the nobles at least needed to maintain a facade in the front, otherwise it would lead to an eventual rebellion by the common people in at most 10 years.
It was something that happened many times before; even the king of the previous generation had to uproot a rebellion and apply a more public-friendly governing system. So, the royal family and the king of this generation would make sure not to repeat the same mistake twice in a row for two consecutive generations.
He had no choice but to grit his teeth, he didn’t know who the other party was, or the forces behind him even though they only wanted wealth. But the tremendous amounts of wealth demanded by them, made the veil obscurity that covered the other party feel more blurry.
Seeing the thoughtful and hesitating expression on the merchant’s face, the viscounts could not help but rebuke the merchant,
"Impossible, Merchant, we are talking about 1 million gold, it’s impossible to even consider that," stated Viscount Frank.
"Even the royal family cannot casually take out that much for no reason, let alone us," added Viscount Zeke.
"Be quiet and think for a moment, you fools, you think the court will spare the two of you if they get caught in the winds of this. I would still be able to save myself and some wealth, but you two?" scoffed the merchant at the two idiots angrily.
The merchant looked at Axel with lingering hatred and said coldly,
"At least, it’s better than losing everything."
Axel stood up from his seat, with a smile he held his small hands forward in order to seal the deal, "Then we have a deal."
Barely holding in his anger the merchant showed a cold smile, "Sure, we have a deal."
Then both parties worked out the details of their co-operation as they both swore mana oaths with no loopholes. The merchant and two viscounts agreed to hand over the payment after 1 week, since they needed that little time to gather the money.
Then after 1 week Axel received the money with no foul play. Well, there was no option for foul plays after all. Axel couldn’t help but feel ecstatic seeing that much money. In only 1 month and a week he was able to gather the money. To be honest, he did not need exactly 1 million for the entrance test.
He only needed half a million; the other half he would leave for his little brother’s treatment. Akon was now receiving the highest caliber of treatment with even some use of magical equipment as well, which now extended the approximate time he could live by more than 5 months. As long as the treatment is ongoing, but obviously it wasn’t cheap.
So, he needed to at least keep half a million in reserve just for that purpose. Maybe get even more money later on. But he believed that once he got into the tower of rune. He will be able to get his hands on something that could replace the cancer treatment process in its entirety and produce better results as well, and money won’t be a problem at that time.
He told his little brother Akon that he had found a good job, which paid him quite well, and that he was using that to pay for his treatment. The little boy initially didn’t believe him, so he brought the detective along to make it more convincing. The detective played along, saying that he actually hired Ash to be a secondary assistant, but in truth, it was the detective who was the subordinate, even if he was an unofficial one.
Soon, Axel’s attention turned to the entrance exam of the rune tower. Unlike the ’Masked Competition’, which was the test for the entrance to the ’Unified Human Academy’. It was a test entirely based on knowledge and magical stuff, at least that was the most amount of information he could gather through the detective.
To be honest, the test itself did not require any fees to be paid. Rather, it was the knowledge necessary for the study of the test that had a price tag on it. There was an external library on the periphery of the rune tower’s area. Which can only be accessed by paying a hefty sum of money if any outside the tower wished to enter it and study for the test.
So, in the next day without further ado he went towards the area of the Rune tower. He could see the tower from far away even before reaching that place, countless shimmering symbols glowed on the black body of the tower.
It looked something like a mix of technology and magic. The countless lines and patterns are almost similar to that of ’Formations from cultivation worlds’ lol. But the entire tower looked majestic and captivating, standing almost 20 stories or more tall.
Mages were walking through the streets with their eccentric dresses. There were common people among them as well. The mages had runes of various patterns on their clothes as well.
Many of the magicians were flying through the sky with strange vehicles. You can see the rune tower while being within a certain radius of it. And you also have to pay to get into that particular area, as it is well-protected and maintained.
After all, its a place where mages lived. Only common peoples with heavy connections came here or those aspiring to be runic mages. This part of the Delmar city truly looked majestic. It was literally a different world. If he were to continue and describe all the details and differences. Days would pass but the things to describe would still not run out.
He asked around some of the normal people about where the outer library was as he walked towards that direction. Soon he reached the gates of the library, the guards immediately stopped him at a certain distance. Especially considering the fact that he was a little kid. And the clothes he wore was not anything special unlike everyone else.
One guard promptly warned him, "This isn’t a place where you can come, kid, go away."
They did not have any disdain in their tone or any other emotions. It seems the mage society worked differently from the nobles and other authorities. They simply did not care about the normal human’s whether it was a king or a beggar. At least, that’s the impression he got.
Axel explained, "I am here to enter the outer library to attempt the test."
The guard shot a surprised glance at the kid and asked him, bewildered, ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com
"You do know that you need to pay half a million gold to enter the library."
Axel nodded and handed him a special paper. It was the said amount of gold coins in a trusted bank. The guard verified the authenticity and stopped treating the young man like a kid. He thought the person he was the heir of some noble house, though it didn’t matter to him.
But another thought irked the guard slightly, he should have some guards following him if he was from some noble family, after all, the poor ones can’t enter the library by paying that high amount of money. The guard also tried to warn him that it was one of the complex paths of magical studies. But Axel only nodded and did not say more.
Many other magicians going in and out of the library shot surprised glances at the little kid. But they shook their head, how could such a small kid learn anything from the outer library when Runes were one of the most complex fields of magic in existence? The kid was simply wasting his money.
But Axel didn’t care about their thoughts and entered the library while holding a magically engraved card in his hand, engraved with multiple runes. The moment he entered, a vast hall filled with countless rows and shelves of books appeared in his vision. He asked the librarian respectfully where he could find the books most helpful for the test.
The librarian seemed to be a kind old man as he pointed him in a certain direction. The insides of the library were much larger than was outside. He walked to the farthest corner of the library.
There he found the section for the beginners. To his surprise, there seemed to be others as well who were studying for the test. The test Axel will be taking wasn’t an event like the ’Masked Competition’.
Normal human’s can take the tower tests anytime they want. But every 5 years there is a mass opportunity for everyone. Unlike now when Axel had to pay to enter the library for study materials.
