Chapter 39: Chapter 39 Always have time for your teaching.

Unable to bear the stilted conversation between the two, Fu Songzhi gave a definite answer, “Huating has a Horse Farm, and they keep two Belgian warmblood horses that used to be Pei Yu’s racehorses. Haven’t you seen them?”

This statement made their relationship clear. Shen Zhiyi shook her head and said thoughtfully, “I haven’t really explored the place.”

She was also busy with work, and her visits to Huating were really just for sleeping. Besides, to Huating, she was merely a passerby.

Qin Fang didn’t catch the implied meaning, and upon hearing that she was unaware, he became enthusiastic, “If you want to learn horseback riding, you can learn at Huating. Brother Pei can teach you; he’s very good at it.”

He looked around, picked up a photo frame, and brought it over, “Here, this was taken when Brother Pei won a prize.”

In the photo, Pei Yu looked much younger than now, obviously just a teenager, dressed in pure black equestrian attire, lightly touching a chestnut-red tall and handsome horse next to him with his hand raised. He looked emotionless at the camera, and compared to now, that defiant air was even more obvious.

“There’s another one here.”

Qin Fang introduced, “We took this one together. Brother Pei was so arrogant back then, coaxing him into taking a photo took some effort.”

It was still that exquisitely delicate and clear-faced Pei Yu standing in the middle, flanked by two young boys who were laughing merrily and draping their arms around his shoulders. He was slightly lifting his chin, looking at the camera nonchalantly, and reluctantly holding a bunch of roses in his arms.

It was the first time Shen Zhiyi had seen Pei Yu’s youthful appearance, and she inexplicably felt it looked familiar.

“So if you want to learn horseback riding, just let Brother Pei teach you,” Qin Fang finished but then considered Pei Yu’s personality and decided he probably wasn’t cut out to be a coach, stroking his chin and changing his suggestion, “Actually, I can teach you too. I’m not bad at it—”

His arm was bumped, and Fu Songzhi diverted the topic directly, “Does Pei Yu know you’re here?”

“He doesn’t,” Shen Zhiyi said, “I didn’t tell him.”

Fu Songzhi’s reaction was a knowing smile.

But that wasn’t necessarily the case.

Perhaps influenced by Father Pei, one aspect of Pei Yu’s personality was a strong desire for control. If Fu Songzhi’s guess was correct, Pei Yu should be well aware of Zhiyi’s whereabouts.

She chatted with the two for a while; most of the time, it was Qin Fang who did the talking. Although Fu Songzhi wasn’t much of a talker, compared to Qin Fang, he was clearly the deeper thinker. Shen Zhiyi keenly sensed that this meeting indicated their attitude towards her. To put it dramatically, it was also a kind of initiative to make amends.

She didn’t stay long, as she had originally planned to learn more at the club, but Qin Fang kept urging her to go back to Huating to learn, and it wouldn’t be right for her to stay in front of them, so she agreed to return to Huating first.

But she didn’t plan to tell Pei Yu that she wanted to learn horseback riding just yet, instead thinking about coming back another day.

Because of this little interlude, Shen Zhiyi arrived at Huating much earlier than expected. The butler was surprised to see her return so early, “You finished work very early today.”

She received her coat and mentioned casually, “The master is at the Horse Farm. Would you like to go there?”

They had just been talking about it, and now she had the opportunity to go to the Horse Farm. Was this mere coincidence?

The butler brought a plate of fruit over, creating a reason for her to go to the Horse Farm, “Could you do me a favor and bring some fruit to the master?”

The Horse Farm was built on the easternmost side of the estate, with its own stable and feed yard. From a distance, she glimpsed a figure seated high on a horse. Unlike his youthful lean figure, wrapped in equestrian attire, his body was upright and powerful, and even a slight movement would set off smoothly flowing muscles, broad shoulders, and long legs, exuding the virile presence of an adult man.

Pei Yu turned his head to look over, his legs slightly squeezing the horse’s sides, drawing it slowly closer. He was tall to start with, and sitting on the horse made one have to look up to meet his gaze. When Shen Zhiyi saw the horse approach, she wanted to hide, thinking she was subtly retreating a few steps back.

“Hiding from what?”

She was found out after all.

Pei Yu dismounted, smoothed the horse’s mane, and asked, “Are you scared?”

To say she wasn’t afraid would be a lie. Shen Zhiyi said understatedly, “A little.”

If it didn’t come close, then she wouldn’t be scared.

Pei Yu raised an eyebrow, his tone leisurely, “Not afraid of the horses at the club, but afraid of my horse?”

“Eh?”

Shen Zhiyi blinked, “You knew I went to the club, huh? Did a friend tell you?”

Without denying it, Pei Yu reached out his hand, “Come here, I’ll teach you.”

Shen Zhiyi stood her ground, feeling humiliated enough at the horse riding club and really not wanting to lose face again in front of him, “I can learn from the coach at the club…”

His horse was certainly more expensive than those at the club, and Shen Zhiyi was afraid of both injuring herself and hurting the horse.

Pei Yu still reached out to her, his fingertips hooking slightly, “Am I not as good as those coaches?”

There was no comparison.

Shen Zhiyi shuffled forward reluctantly, then found an excuse, “I’m holding fruit, it’s inconvenient.”

As soon as she finished speaking, she felt a tightness around her waist, and Pei Yu effortlessly lifted her onto the horse by her waist, very steadily, without even dropping a single piece of fruit from the plate. Shen Zhiyi hadn’t reacted yet, and was already off the ground, her body tense, not daring to move.

Pei Yu chuckled, “That scared?”

He held the reins and kept one hand on her waist, “I won’t let you fall.”

Sitting on the horse, Shen Zhiyi watched him lower his head, the novelty of the experience easing her tension slightly, but still not daring to move, her voice soft, “Whatever you do, don’t let go.”

Her nervous demeanor, her gaze fixed tightly on him, seemed to warn that he might let go at any moment and unconsciously carried a hint of dependency.

This was rare, and Pei Yu curved his lips and chuckled softly, promising in a low voice, “I won’t let go.”

His smile was misunderstood by Shen Zhiyi, who was slightly unhappy, “Don’t make fun of me.”

She really didn’t want to embarrass herself in front of him.

Replacing her upward gaze, Pei Yu’s slender eyes lifted, his pupils hazel in the bright light, “Wronged, when did I make fun of you?”

Quite obviously, Shen Zhiyi muttered to herself, but she didn’t argue with him. She found that Pei Yu’s horse seemed very submissive and obedient, standing quietly in place without moving, which greatly reduced her anxiety.

Seeing that she was less tense, Pei Yu took the fruit plate from her, not in a hurry to teach her how to walk the horse, but instead fed a piece of fruit to her lips.

Shen Zhiyi, almost subconsciously, opened her mouth, her attention diverted to getting used to the feeling of being on the horse, and before she knew it, she had eaten most of it. It was then that she realized the fruit plate seemed to contain all the fruits she liked.

“Don’t want anymore?”

Pei Yu seemed quite amused by feeding her, and when she shook her head, he fed the rest of the fruit slices to the quietly bowing horse.

“Here are the reins, try to take control.”

Pei Yu handed her the left rein and strolled beside the horse, stopping every time Shen Zhiyi looked tense, giving her time to relax.

After practicing like this for an afternoon, Pei Yu helped her down from the horse, “From now on, you’ll learn here.”

Having the horse farm here was indeed convenient, but there were no coaches. It would be a waste of his time to always come here.

“Aren’t you busy?”

Pei Yu had someone take the horse away and went to hold her hand, nonchalantly saying, “If it’s to teach you, I’m always free.”
