Chapter 240 -241: Setting Rules_1
Muniang watched her leisurely, as if watching an interesting play unfold.
He Suxue bit her teeth but still said, “My body is still weak, and indeed, these months of travel have really drained my strength. If I continue back like this, I’m afraid I’ll fall sick. It’s better to rest here for a few more days.”
Yu Ze frowned, obviously displeased. He Suxue quickly added with reddened eyes, “I’m all alone in this place, I dare not stay anywhere but here, especially since the kidnapping just happened, I, I, I’m scared.”
“You need to recuperate and you’re still standing here?” Yu Ze’s tone was stern.
He Suxue’s handkerchief was twisted to pieces: “I also wanted to see how Muniang was doing. After all, the shock she must have received this time is probably not minor, she’s injured so severely.” The words carried a tint of smugness, as if saying that Yu Ze couldn’t see her injuries but only cared about He Suxue’s.
Muniang spoke in an indifferent tone, “You needn’t worry about me, but since you want to convalesce here, no matter what you say, this is my territory. There are a few rules you must remember. One, I am the host and you are the guest; knock before entering, and do not eavesdrop around the corners. Two, don’t speak sarcastically to me, it makes me sick to my ears. Three, he is my husband, not yours; if you manage to make him your husband, then you can come to show off your love in front of me. Otherwise, I can only see you as a buffoon, even more disgusting.”
He Suxue was petrified. She could never have imagined that this woman would lay everything out in front of Yu Ze, all the scheming that she had kept hidden for so long—what was the point of it now?
What made her even more furious was that Qiao Muniang had exposed all of her schemes, leaving her no face at all. Having seen so much of the cunning and duplicity where pretense was the norm, this was her first encounter with someone who didn’t play by the rules, and He Suxue was so ashamed she didn’t know what to say.
He Suxue stiffly turned to look at Yu Ze, only to see that he had no reaction, as if whatever the woman had said was as casual as asking if she had eaten.
“Muniang, you’ve misunderstood me, I’m not like that at all—” He Suxue said with reddened eyes and a tone of grievance.
“You should go back and rest, getting well is the most important thing,” Yu Ze said blandly.
He Suxue felt so suffocated she almost passed out. She wanted to explain, but he didn’t care about what she wanted to say; no, he didn’t care about her at all!
He Suxue bit her teeth and stormed out, slamming the door in humiliation.
Muniang’s lips curved into a smile, and Yu Ze saw her mischievous grin before saying, “Happy now?”
Muniang raised her eyebrows slightly, “Somewhat, but you’d better get rid of that woman soon. If she agitates me again one day, I definitely won’t be as easy to talk to as today. I might just let fists fly without warning. I’m strong, and it wouldn’t be good if I accidentally crippled her.”
Yu Ze laughed helplessly, remarking, “As easy to talk to as today,” when she was anything but easygoing; this prickly little vixen.
Tomorrow was the day to deliver food to Dongxing Building, and Muniang had been so busy with other matters that she had nearly forgotten. It was only this morning that she remembered and immediately started bustling about in the kitchen.
Unbeknownst to her, He Suxue was already standing at the kitchen doorway. Muniang had been focusing on cooking and hadn’t noticed until then when she frowned, “Do you think my place isn’t messy enough? Get out.”
But He Suxue, as if deaf, approached Muniang. Gone was yesterday’s pretense in her eyes, replaced by a sharpness, “Do you think just because Yu is protecting you now, you can be so arrogant? Do you truly understand him? The time you’ve known him is just the year he was out of his senses, the most insignificant and regrettable year of his twenty-six years.
Do you think his protection means he loves you? That just shows your naivety. His heart is cold. His tolerance for you now is merely out of gratitude, because you saved his life, nothing more. When his gratitude wears off, you will be nothing.”

Without lifting her head, Muniang responded, “If you’re done, hurry up and leave.”
He Suxue scoffed, “You don’t believe it, do you? Then think about it, how much do you really know about him, and how much has he ever shared with you? Do you know why he went to the border ten years ago? Do you think he stays here instead of returning to the Capital City truly because of you? Do you actually believe you are that important? You’re vastly overestimating yourself.”
She then laughed triumphantly, “But I know everything, I understand every aspect of his life; has he told you any of it?”
Muniang paused in her actions, her heart twisting into knots, but her face still managed a cold sneer, “Have you become so demeaned that you need to find a sense of existence in front of me? If you’re as important to him as you claim, you wouldn’t have the leisure to flex your muscles in front of me right now.”
But He Suxue wasn’t the least bit angered; instead, she laughed softly, “Really? Soon enough, I’ll show you that in his heart, you can’t compare with me at all.”
Having said that, she glared at Muniang fiercely before turning and leaving.
Muniang’s hand holding the kitchen knife began to tremble uncontrollably. Perhaps it was He Suxue’s words that were too sharp or maybe her attitude too confident, but Muniang felt a deep sense of defeat for the first time.
“I know everything, but has he told you?”
This sentence echoed in Muniang’s ears like a massive taunt, her lips tightening as she felt unbearably stifled.
Qingya said anxiously, “Lady, are you alright?”
“I’m fine,” Muniang’s voice was noticeably weak.
“Lady, Mr. Wu is here,” a servant suddenly came running.
Muniang paused before saying, “Please show him to the drawing room.”
After composing herself, Muniang left the kitchen and entered the drawing room, where she saw Wu Haoli sitting leisurely, drinking tea.
But today she didn’t even have the energy to greet him, asking directly, “Why have you come?”
Seeing her pale complexion, Wu Haoli didn’t question her and simply said, “Tomorrow is the delivery day for the dishes. I came to see how your preparations are going. At a hundred taels of Silver each, I’d take a huge loss if they don’t sell well.”
Muniang gave him a sideways glance, “As if the city’s wealthiest man needs that bit of Silver.”
Wu Haoli chuckled shamelessly; in truth, he had come because he had heard some rumors and wanted to check on her. And indeed, she did not look well.
Muniang said, “You didn’t come here for that, did you?”
Wu Haoli feigned surprise, “You can tell?”
Staring at him intently, Muniang said, “The last time at your mansion, you asked me meaningfully if I wasn’t afraid Yu Ze would leave and not come back. What did you mean? Do you know something?”
Wu Haoli’s smile gradually faded, “Do you truly think that knowing something from me would be meaningful?”
