Forest Ranger, starting from Picking Up a Lynx Girl-Chapter 165: Troublemaker Father Yin (Seeking Monthly Pass)
"You called me over just to let me see your cubs?"
Chen Ying didn't reach out immediately but squatted down to observe the several little cubs and noticed that one of them seemed to have some problems with its body.
"Is it because of this one? What's wrong with it?"
He reached out and picked up the little cub curled up by Wolf Mother's front legs.
The little guy looked quite chubby by itself, but it was at least a third smaller than the largest one.
If it weren't for Wolf Mother's own, you'd have to wonder if it was actually raising another dog's child.
Wolf Mother licked the little cub and nudged it with her nose, pushing its butt towards Chen Ying's arms.
"What do you mean? You want me to take it away?"
Wolf Mother nodded, "Woof woof, it's too weak; it won't survive with me."
Wolf Mother paused for a while, then continued, "Its father said you could take it to raise, but I'm worried they won't be able to keep this little guy alive either, so let it stay with you."
Chen Ying felt a bit troubled.
He was willing to raise it, but it wasn't certain that his superiors would agree to hand it over to him.
Wolf Mother tilted her head slightly, "Do you look down on it?"
"Of course not." Chen Ying carefully examined the little cub and found it was a little girl, "I can't keep it, but if you trust me, I can find it a good place."
This cub's physical condition didn't meet the standards of the police dog breeding facility, but its lineage was excellent. The wildlife park he visited last time would completely satisfy Wolf Mother's requirements.
If the little cub went there, it would have peers to play with and even a chance to bear Little Baby with a mighty male wolf— for its wolf life, that was already the best arrangement.
He took the opportunity to pet all the cubs; he really couldn't tell which one had greater potential—they all looked pretty similar except for their size.
Wolf Mother didn't insist that Chen Ying must take care of her child. Since the Two-legged beast had agreed to find a good place for her daughter, she would just wait.
Chen Ying, not wanting Wolf Mother to worry, called his superiors in front of her to ask how to arrange for this litter of wolf cubs.
The Meng Province Police Dog Base only wanted two, and the remaining three would likely be sent to the local police dog breeding facility to become breeding dogs, but the smallest one, which also troubled the leaders the most.
"The police dog breeding facility doesn't want it either; that little wolf dog cub is a bit weaker in all aspects. So, you have a plan? I want to make it clear to you first, these second-generation police dogs cannot be kept privately."
"I definitely wouldn't dare to keep it. Here's the thing, the last time I went on a business trip to that wildlife park, they had a pack of wolves. I've talked to their veterinarian; the park wants to introduce new wolf bloodlines. I'm thinking since this little cub would struggle to survive in the wild, why not send it there to improve their captive-breeding bloodlines?"
This wouldn't violate their rescue regulations.
After all, the little wolf dog cub truly wasn't suitable for release into the wild; without a police dog base, the animal park was actually the best final home for rescued animals.
Director Bai thought for a moment, didn't immediately agree, and said he would discuss with the other leaders to see how to best arrange it.
Putting down his phone, the earnest gaze of Wolf Mother cast over.
"We're not certain yet if it's going to work, but it shouldn't be a big problem. Don't worry, even if it can't be sent there, I will find the most suitable place for your little cub."
Wolf Mother opened her mouth slightly and whined, touching Chen Ying's hand with a whimper.
"You play with the children, I have to go back to eat."
He had just stood up when Duoduo entered the yard, holding a basket in his mouth.
The basket was filled with the she-wolf's food, along with fine bones for the wolf pups to gnaw on.
Chen Ying patted Duoduo's head and worked his way out of the yard.
Back at the front courtyard, everyone had already started eating.
Yin Li saved him a seat and poured him a bowl of boiled beer.
Drinking hot beer boiled with red dates and goji berries in winter was heavenly – one bowl made the entire body warm and toasty.
The meal lasted over four hours and it was already five in the afternoon by the time they finished. Before it got dark, Chen Ying and the others still needed to rush back to the rescue station.
Yin Li had the next day off, so he simply decided to accompany them into the mountains to help carry some things in.

They hadn't been walking for long when it started to snow again.
Chen Ying looked at the cheerful figures of Old Gao and Little Sen ahead and then at Yin Li, who clearly had something on his mind, and nudged his arm.
"What's up? You're not going back to the village during your time off? Still mad at your dad?"
After the last incident, Yin Li had another big argument with his father. Little Deng mentioned that Yin Li's father even smashed things at home.
Yin Li was not at all indulgent of his father, slamming the door and leaving after the quarrel, then he went straight to the village committee to request the division of his homestead land.
Chen Ying didn't want to meddle in the conflict between father and son of the Yin family, he was mainly concerned about what was being said in the village regarding the tourism development.
"He can't interfere in that matter now. That's why he was cussing me out at home, calling me an ungrateful wretch."
Chen Ying pursed his lips; he knew that Yin Li's father must have cursed him out too.
"This matter really can't involve your father – we don't want a good thing to turn sour in the end. It would be fine if your dad listened and followed the rules, but deep down, he still sticks to the old ways, always talking about personal connections and favors."
Last time, as Yin Li's father suggested, Chen Ying was urged to put the rescued animals in a park for tourists to view and even to take pictures with set prices, like what was done in other places.
When Chen Ying and Yin Li heard this, they knew they couldn't let Yin Li's father get involved. Was operating a wildlife rescue for profit the plan – basically a legal hustle?
"Actually, there are quite a few people in the village who share my dad's mindset, thinking if others can do it, so can they. Because of this, the village's report got held up. The resident cadres have had several meetings and even visited homes to discuss it privately, but the effectiveness hasn't been great."
Yin Li whispered to Chen Ying with a warning, "You need to be cautious these days. I don't know what my dad has told his cronies, but my sister secretly called me and said that in a few days, he's planning to bring people to visit your place to see the giant pandas. He even assured someone he could arrange for each person to hold a panda for a photo."
As Yin Li spoke, his teeth were clenched. God knows that when his sister called to tip him off, he even entertained the thought of sending his dad away to cool off for a while.
Chen Ying's expression also twisted with concern; this was indeed a troublesome matter.
The rescue station didn't have fences or gates. If people actually showed up, what could he do? Surely he couldn't have Jinya and the others intimidate them?
"Have you discussed this with the deputy director?"
"I brought it up, but he also doesn't know what to do. We can only wait and see at that time."
Before anything happened, they couldn't just dish out punishment.
"Forget it, let's take it one step at a time. Have your sister keep an eye out, and if your dad really does something like that, tell her to give us early warning so we can respond accordingly."
Chen Ying calculated the days; tomorrow would be January, less than twenty days before the New Year.
There's a high probability that within these ten or so days before the New Year, Yin Li's father would bring people to the rescue station to forcibly grab the pandas.
Actually, he felt the situation was easy to handle. If people came, just enforce their departure, and if they didn't comply, he could call in the Forest Police to deal with it.
Only, this would make things complicated for Yin Li. The leaders might become dissatisfied with him.
