Chapter 212: Chapter 212: Don’t Mess with Druid Chen

“Mr. Chen, help, save me, the gibbons are attacking Bright Peak—uh, I mean, they’re besieging the observation room.”

What kind of mess is this?

Chen Ying hurriedly put on her clothes and arrived at the scene in three minutes.

Hey, I have to say, it really did have a bit of that “siege of Bright Peak” vibe.

The security guards and the strong men were holding the front, while the women and older staff members had been sternly instructed to hide in their rooms.

When Chen Ying arrived, several young people were shouting loudly at him, telling him to take cover first.

Hide what hide!

Chen Ying’s brain was not yet fully awake due to lack of sleep, so he rushed straight into the scene and faced off against the most robust male gibbon in the center.

“So you didn’t get enough of a fight amongst yourselves and decided to pick one with humans too?”

In the night air, Chen Ying’s voice, tinged with anger, traveled far, even the young gibbons that were following behind and howling stopped to listen.

It backed down for a moment, climbed obediently down from the iron net, squatted down on the throne that had been adorned to its liking inside, hugged itself into a ball, and closed its eyes.

Yeah, I’m sleeping, I wasn’t part of the ruckus!

The staff in charge of monitoring couldn’t help but laugh angrily and captured this segment of the video, planning to send it to Mr. Chen to show him the “Obedient ape’s” true colors.

Chen Ying stood in front of the male ape with her hands on her hips, her presence overwhelming the other.

“Come on, tell me, what are you planning to do? After subduing these apes, are you planning to invade the human world next?”

The male Western black-capped gibbon had been fierce at first, but after Chen Ying shouted, it subconsciously took a half step back and then stood its ground.

However, when it looked up at Chen Ying, its expression was somewhat comical and made one want to laugh.

(Talk is talk, why be so fierce?)

“Say, what are you doing here in the middle of the night with the gibbons?”

The male gibbon was stunned for a moment and let out a few hoots.

“Looking for your son?”

Chen Ying frowned, sized it up for a moment, then looked around, all black fur, not a single Yellow Fur.

The gender of the black-capped gibbons can easily be differentiated by their fur color.

“Where’s its mother?”

“She’s injured, recuperating.”

Chen Ying pondered for a moment; all the other gibbons had been carried back from the edge of the “battlefield,” except for the little baby ape that fell from the sky yesterday—nine times out of ten, it was that one.

Chen Ying stepped forward, took the male gibbon’s right forelimb, and led it toward the observation room.

The other gibbons put on threatening faces, and Chen Ying turned her head and glared, “What’s all the yelling for, think being loud is impressive?”

The gibbons that had been calling out stopped abruptly, each obediently shrinking onto the trees.

The young people in the nearby office and dormitory buildings all widened their eyes, looked at Chen Ying with their mouths agape, and couldn’t believe that the scene before them was real.

Chen Ying led the male gibbon to the window and gestured to the interns inside to step aside to give the male ape a clear view to identify if the one lying there was its baby.

Seeing the male gibbon suddenly press against the window, Chen Ying understood—eight chances out of ten, it was him.

After understanding this, anger rose from within.

How exactly did the little baby ape get tossed out? Was the father only focused on fighting and the mother only interested in munching on melons and watching the excitement?

But the male gibbon didn’t know itself—it was too caught up in the fight to ask who had thrown its son.

Now, seeing its son tied to a bed, the male gibbon’s anger surged, and it raised its fist, ready to smash the glass.

Chen Ying was quick to act and grabbed the ape’s fist, the male gibbon turned its head, revealing yellow-tinted sharp teeth.

“Do you want it to die?” Chen Ying lowered her voice without losing the anger, “It was thrown off the tree by someone, fell to the ground, and suffered serious injuries. We are trying to save it, understand?”

The male gibbon’s eyes, bloodshot, stared at Chen Ying, breathing heavily.

The onlookers tensed up along with it; some even tightened their grip on the “Protection Weapons” they held.

“It’s going to be okay, but that’s only if you don’t disturb the treatment.”

Chen Ying forcefully led it away to check on the other injured apes.

The ones with minor injuries were already under observation, ready to be released at any moment.

The two or three with more serious injuries could only stay in the Animal shed to receive treatment and would have to be confined for at least ten days to half a month before recovery.

As Chen Ying led the male gibbon to the back, the other gibbons moved along.

In the Protection Zone’s courtyard and the surrounding trees, there were gibbons jumping and flying around.

The two younger gibbons with lighter injuries reacted differently upon seeing the male gibbon.

One of them seemed to want to provoke, but after seeing the male gibbon bare its teeth, it became somewhat cowardly and dared not come forward.

The other was bolder; it rushed to the door, stretched out its long arm attempting to snatch something, but the male gibbon caught it and was about to bite down.

Chen Ying was prepared—a partition successfully separated them.

Amidst the squabbling of the two apes, he led the male gibbon to the young gibbon’s Animal shed, the latter still pretending to sleep on its throne.

Looking through the doorway, one could see its eyeballs rolling around, peering out from between its arms.

“Stop pretending!” Chen Ying laughed angrily, patted the iron gate, “Come over here, let me see how your injury is doing.”

The ape crept over coyly, as obedient as the little baby ape.

Seeing this young gibbon, the male gibbon’s entire body began to tremble uncontrollably.

Chen Ying thought they had some deep-seated grudge, but the next moment, he left, rolling his eyes.

Curse, curse away; they deserve to be scolded.

He signaled to the surrounding staff to stay alert and disperse, then dragged over a chair with a backrest to sit and wait for the male ape to vent his anger before discussing anything else.

He took the opportunity to consult with the medical team’s carriage captain, deciding to leave the three younger apes that needed further treatment, and releasing the others back to their habitat.

These were a bunch of ancestors!

After discussing with Chen Ying, the carriage captain arranged for non-essential personnel to take cover, while the remaining staff donned protective gear and released the lightly injured gibbons directly into the enclosure.

Sure enough, once those apes were out, they quickly found their own family groups and not long after, about a dozen healthy gibbons, with their recovered companions in tow, raced away.

Through drone and camera surveillance, it was observed that these family groups scattered in different directions, and some seemed to be relocating their territories.

According to current data, a family group’s range of activity covered about sixty hectares.

In theory, the area of the Liang Mountain Nature Reserve was more than enough to sustain these gibbons, but once you excluded areas with scarce food, the situation still looked dire.

To this day, the staff had no idea how these creatures had suddenly come together for a group brawl.

After all, Western black-capped gibbons differed from monkeys, leaning more towards family-based groups.

Typically, a gibbon family consisted of one male, two females, and three to five children.

Gibbons usually bred once every three years; offspring matured at around the age of six or seven and would leave the family to find a mate and start a new group, regardless of sex.

The young ape in front of them was about to mature and leave home to find a new life, happily single for now.

From the male ape’s cursing, Chen Ying concluded that this guy had run back home to join the fight halfway and was first-time battle fodder who got hurt on sight.

Ever heard of the dimwit Er Sha falling down a slope while failing at climbing trees? Well, here he was.

After dealing with other matters and returning to the animal shed, the male ape had stopped cursing, angrily glaring at the young ape inside.

The young ape kept its distance from the door, looking around nonchalantly, completely ignoring its ape dad.

Really, the scene was just like a standoff between a stodgy dad and his son, who wants to live life on his terms.

Chen Ying straightened his face to hold back a laugh and went over to pat the male ape.

“Off you go, you’ve had a look, and we don’t have room for you here.”

After all the late-night commotion, any more dawdling and it’d be dawn.

Huffing, the male ape left. Chen only saw it head towards the mountain slopes, but where it actually stayed needed to be determined by technical department colleagues through comparative analysis.

“Dr. Chen, thank you so much for today.”

The medical team’s carriage captain came over with breakfast for Chen Ying, “Eat first, then you can catch up on sleep. Don’t worry, we have enough hands on deck here.”

The breakfast was simple: three meat buns, two tea eggs, and a bowl of porridge.

The carriage captain’s own breakfast was a bowl of hot and spicy minced pork over rice noodles.

Seeing Chen Ying glance a couple of extra times at his breakfast, the carriage captain considered offering a swap, but before he could speak, Chen had already gobbled down the buns in three big bites.

Staying up all night was exhausting. Normally, Chen didn’t eat much, but he finished his breakfast in no time today.

The carriage captain’s thin and dark face beamed with a smile, “Once we’re done with the busy days, I’ll take Dr. Chen down for some local delicacies. They’re guaranteed to have you eating nonstop.”

After breakfast, Chen went back and caught a bit more sleep, completely awake by almost eleven in the morning.

Getting up from a good sleep and checking his phone, he was astounded.

The few group chats he had were all showing 999+ messages – had some major event happened?

He quickly checked, and, lo and behold, it was about him.

On closer inspection, it turned out that an intern had secretly recorded the scene of Chen Ying charging into the gibbon circle and confronting the male ape.

The headline: “This is the Druid’s Presence!”

Truly… indescribable shame.

Now fully alert, Chen rubbed his face in disbelief. Was he really like that last night?

Indeed, never mess with a man who’s just woken up!

This was not like his usual self.

Stepping out, with eyes following him all the way, Chen subtly quickened his pace.

Upon reaching the observation room, he saw two shadows, one yellow and one black, pasted on the window by the door.

As Chen approached, the yellow female gibbon hid behind the black male gibbon.

“Here to show your wife the baby?”

He casually greeted them, hands in pockets as he passed by to change clothes and then entered the observation room.

The baby ape was being incredibly well-behaved, looking towards the window.

It seemed to understand that it couldn’t move, quietly enduring as an intern unbuckled one of its restraints and massaged its arm, so docile it was heartbreaking.

“Can this hospital bed be moved? Can we shift it closer to the window?”

The baby ape was still hooked up to monitors and needed to lie there for another two or three days.

“Can we do it now?”

There were three beds in the observation room, only one of which was currently occupied. The monitoring equipment was mobile with the bed, and the IV stand was even easier to handle, it could just be unhooked and moved with the bed.

Chen Ying and two interns spent about fifteen minutes rearranging the bed next to the window.

It was positioned perfectly for the two adult apes to touch hands with the baby ape through the glass.

The scene was heartwarming.

The carriage captain who came to find Chen Ying took out their phone and captured the moment.
