Forest Ranger, starting from Picking Up a Lynx Girl-Chapter 330 - 328: Blind Date Failure?
Chapter 330 -328: Blind Date Failure?
Chen Ying returned to the Protection Station on the afternoon of the fourth day of the lunar month.
On the way, he had already informed his friends about the situation, and everyone was able to finally relax.
At the same time, Chen Ying also shared the best ways to handle wild animals in several Protection Station groups he had joined.
Actually, Patrol Officers at the stations had methods to deal with wild animals, but sometimes luck played a big role.
For example, this accident on the grassland was purely luck, being followed by a wolf pack and unintentionally provoking Wild Yaks.
If it weren’t for Mama Bear and her two cubs coming to the rescue, it would be hard to say what the outcome would be.
But by sharing more about the temperament and behavior of animals, and ways to handle them, Chen Ying gave them more options in case of emergencies.
Xiao Shen didn’t wait for his holiday to end and flew to the rescue center on the fifth day to report.
After arranging work for him, Chen Ying went back to Jiamu Gully with Yin Li.
Yin Li was going back to deal with his parents’ affairs.
Chen Ying, however, needed to return Jinya and Little Jin to Jiamu Gully, while Little Lynx stayed behind to hang out with Lynx Sister.
The urgency of his return was because Chen Ying had to make a trip, to diagnose and treat a White Lion that was suspected to be sick.
The original owner of the White Lion and the director of the zoo currently responsible for its care had sent an email directly to Chen Ying and had also facilitated a green channel.
As soon as Chen Ying agreed, he could immediately set off, with even the round-trip plane tickets being covered by them.
After Chen Ying left, there was no one at the Protection Station who could take care of Jinya and Little Jin.
Moreover, the Highland weather was really too cold, and Little Jin’s activity was extremely limited. For its safety and mental health, Chen Ying had no choice but to send it back to Jiamu Gully.
Jinya couldn’t possibly let Little Jin, a cat, go on its own. It had wanted to kidnap Er Niu to take back, but Chen Ying did not allow it.
Not to mention that the Snow Leopard population at Jiamu Gully Mountain was already high, even the environment itself wasn’t suitable for Er Niu.
It had friends on the wilderness and would come to the Protection Station for food and drinks, living a very happy life.
If it really went to Jiamu Gully, the altitude where the emergency station was located would not suit it well, and it wouldn’t be convenient to come down from the mountain often. Er Niu, who liked to roam freely, felt as though it would be trapped in an invisible cage, and certainly wouldn’t be happy.
With Snow Leopard Cubs and Old Snow Leopards around, as well as Little Lynx and the elusive Lynx Sister for company, Er Niu’s life on the wilderness was quite comfortable.
After Chen Ying took Jinya and the others away, Er Niu also reduced the frequency of casual visits here, often taking the Snow Leopard Cub and Little Lynx out into the wild and only returning every half month to say hello.
After handing Jinya and Little Jin over to Little Sen to settle down, Chen Ying couldn’t even afford to stay at the emergency station for a couple more days and immediately rushed to the provincial capital for an international flight directly to the White Lion’s location.
Upon landing, the feeling of going from deep winter to peak summer made Chen Ying feel bewildered for a moment.
The ones to pick him up were Ding Wen and his friend.
Ding Wen had taken this matter to heart after they had talked about it last time.
This swift invitation was also due to his efforts in orchestrating from within.
“Let’s go see that lion directly,” Ding Wen’s expression was a bit grave, “It was confined after injuring someone last time. But because the other party had violated regulations first, there were no further measures taken.”
“Not sure if it’s because of being confined, but the lion is now very irritable, and even feeding has to be done through a small window.”
Still like this, not humane? Chen Ying asked Ding Wen with his eyes.
Ding Wen glanced at him and subtly shook his head.
Situations were different domestically and internationally, plus the owner of the lion had a very strong background. The medical team that got bitten could only blame their misfortune.
Probably for the same reason, no one wanted to take on the task afterward. After all, compared with money, life was more important.
After understanding the whole story, Ding Wen was willing to persuade Chen Ying to take on this task because he believed there was no need for close contact with the lion. Reading its behavior from behind a fence should be possible.
After getting out of the car, while his driver friend went to park, Ding Wen quickly explained to Chen Ying.
“We’re here to earn this money, firstly to make good karma, and secondly, we can’t reject directly as it would upset your boss. Let’s see what can be done; if it can be done, tell me what you need directly, and I’ll get the tools ready for you.”
Ding Wen, after all, had made a name for himself out in the world and understood things that Chen Ying did not.
Especially in dealing with these “international friends,” Ding Wen had plenty of experience.
“Later we’ll go directly to the Lion Garden, you check the situation first. If there’s a way, just tell me what you need, I’ll be responsible for preparing the tools.”
Chen Ying looked at him, not understanding what tools were needed since the lion was already confined.
Talking all the way, under the lead of his driver friend, they took a sightseeing car to the Lion Garden.
A large yard with a dedicated lion Animal shed and outdoor activity area.
A high protective wall ensured that the lions couldn’t jump out, with a layer of low-voltage electric wires on top that could electrify to prevent lions from escaping in critical moments.
Passing through a glass corridor, there were large lions on both sides.
“Our country previously issued a decree forbidding private individuals from keeping fierce animals. So most owners sent their lions and tigers here for foster care.”
The so-called policy from above, countermeasures from below.
Handing over the animals did not mean they no longer belonged to them; it was just a change of place for centralized breeding.
If needed for show, arrangements could be made in advance to take photos and videos, interacting intimately with their big babies.
After entering the Lion Garden, Chen Ying passed several small enclosures that all had residents.
These lions clearly received meticulous care, even their manes were groomed to be exceptionally tidy and beautiful.
(Delicate lions)
As Chen Ying’s gaze lingered on a male white lion, the driver leading the way said that this lion was in good condition and wasn’t a permanent resident here.
He spoke obliquely, but Chen Ying understood him clearly.
So, those with a background could be taken away, leaving mostly those without any connections, or whose connections weren’t substantial.
Regarding this, he had no comment. Every country has its privileged class, and as someone who couldn’t even take Er Niu away, why should he worry about someone else’s lions?
Moving on, they saw two female white lions lying together, resting.
Elegant in shape, regal in appearance.
However, one of the lions had a noticeably bulging belly, likely a pregnant female.
Chen Ying took an extra look but didn’t linger too long and continued forward.
A few steps later, he couldn’t resist mentioning, “I think that lioness, if not tonight, then by tomorrow morning, should be giving birth.”
The man leading the way looked at him in surprise, thanked him with a smile, “Our veterinarian made the same judgment, but based on monitoring data. I didn’t expect Dr. Chen to see it at a glance.”
Chen Ying simply smiled and said no more.
Meanwhile, Ding Wen kept looking back, seeming not to understand how, with just one glance, Chen Ying could tell it was about to give birth, whereas he couldn’t tell at all.
Was the gap between them really that big?
At the end of the path, there was clearly a specially made iron barred gate.
And the neighboring small enclosures were also empty.
The sound of the gate opening startled the resting white lion inside. It opened its mouth and roared, pacing back and forth near the bars, fixing its copper bell-like eyes on the people leading the way.
Chen Ying wasn’t in a rush to approach, listening for a while, he found that although the lion was roaring loudly, there was no particular meaning to it, similar to how humans might vent by shouting “ah ah ah.”
Chen Ying glanced at the man beside him, “Could you step away for a moment, please? You don’t need to go too far, just out of sight of this lion.”
The man looked at Ding Wen, nodded, stepped out of the iron gate, then took a turn and stood beside the door of the adjacent empty enclosure.
There, a doorpost conveniently concealed him from view.
No longer seeing the man, the lion seemed genuinely calmer, but still looked at Chen Ying and Ding Wen with suspicion and anger in its eyes.
Ding Wen conscientiously stepped out as well, but instead of joining the other man, he went to the glass wall on the other side, observing the lion through the gaps between the glass and the building.
Once it was just Chen Ying, the lion stopped pacing restlessly.
It paused, mouth slightly open, locking eyes with Chen Ying for several minutes.
“Do you understand what I’m saying?”
Chen Ying took a small step forward, getting a bit closer, and whispered.
“Roar~” The white lion took a breath, its gaze noticeably calmer. It squatted down and gave Chen Ying a couple of “roar roars.”
“Do you feel unwell?”
“Roar, no, I’m thinking of my mate. When will you let me out? I want to see her.”
After the white lion spoke, it began to grow restless again.
Chen Ying gave it a puzzled look, then turned his gaze towards Ding Wen and the driver outside.
“I remember, you mentioned that this lion just reached adulthood and has never mated before?”
“Yes, Dr. Chen,” the driver quickly responded, “It was bred in captivity and had always been kept in a private garden. Its owner once took it to a white lion matchmaking event. But because it was young and neither physically nor visually impressive enough, it didn’t succeed. After the ordinance was issued, it wasn’t taken out anymore.”
So, who’s the white lion’s wife? Was it unrequited love, or did it actually have a partner it fancied, unknown to its owner?
Chen Ying seemed to sense a whiff of gossip.
Sure enough, the driver added another piece of information.
“On the day of the matchmaking event, next door, a white tiger matchmaking meeting was also organized. It was said none paired up successfully.”
Chen Ying pondered for a moment and asked if the white tigers were nearby.
“Yes. This is the Lion Garden, and over there is the Tiger Park.”
Following the direction pointed out, the Tiger Park was not too far; probably a fifteen-minute walk from the Lion Garden.
Chen Ying stroked his chin, glanced at the curious lion looking at him, and an idea came to mind.
“Old Ding, could you help me ask our friend here if he could provide video footage or images of the white tigers, or let us go there to film instead?”
“What for?” Ding Wen asked curiously, “They have separate video introductions at the Tiger park and here at the Lion Garden. Every fierce beast has an animal profile; I’ve seen them before.”
That made things easy. Let’s get a large screen going!
