Chapter 348 -346 What the Tiger Has, Bao Bao I Also Want to Have

The treatment of the injured little tiger cub was something Chen Ying would definitely be involved in, but he didn’t need to follow along just yet.

The initial check-up alone would take two or three days, and by the time the results came out, Chen Ying’s filming work would nearly be finished.

When the male tiger came back with his prey, he didn’t see the female tiger and angrily scratched at the snow, as if trying to bury Chen Ying alive.

“Don’t worry, she didn’t leave, she went into the woods.”

Chen Ying dodged awkwardly until finally, he threw snow in the tiger’s face with an iron basin, which calmed it down a bit.

“Her cub was taken away, to a two-legged beast’s hospital for treatment. Now that she’s alone and distressed, you should hurry over and keep her company, and maybe by this autumn, you’ll get what you desire.”

Upon hearing this, the male tiger’s eyes lit up with joy, and dragging the prey, it followed the scent to track her down.

Chen Ying clicked his tongue and sent a message to the village, alerting them the danger was over for now—the tiger wouldn’t be coming.

However, with two fierce tigers near the village, the risk factor was still high, so it would be best to have the Forest Police and rangers strengthen patrols and install surveillance and alarms at several crucial entrances around the village.

Several villages that often had tigers prowling around had installed alarms, and this village had also applied. According to the usual procedure, it would probably take a month or two to get approval.

But with the film crew here and all that had happened, the monitors would likely be set up the day after tomorrow.

According to the plan, the last filming location for the crew was the swamp, which they were supposed to visit today. But due to the unexpected event with the little tiger cub, the shoot was postponed until tomorrow. They would finish filming in the morning and then head straight to the airport in the afternoon.

The journey to the swamp was unusually calm, as if all the tension and excitement were reflected in the tiger’s saga.

Everyone took a stroll around the swamp; there were plenty of birds, but not a single red-crowned crane—one of the species they hoped to see.

“It’s a bit early; in another ten days or so, there should be some. How about the director comes back specially later to film them?”

Everyone was preparing to head back with a tinge of regret when Chen Ying’s eyes twitched, and he grabbed Brother Hai’s arm tightly.

“Ouch, what’s up with Little Chen?”

Without a word, Chen Ying kept his eyes fixed forward.

Seeing this, Brother Hai quickly picked up the binoculars and looked in the same direction, and blurted out, “What the hell!”

About seventy or eighty meters away by the lakeside, a flock of waterbirds frantically took flight in panic.

Inside the chaotic circle of birds, an animal with a strikingly familiar coat pattern was chasing a large bird.

“What should we do?”

Li Yu looked toward Chen Ying. “Mr. Chen, can you call that leopard back?”

Before Chen Ying could respond, Brother Hai nudged him on the elbow, and on the other side, the host Brother Wei also spoke up to support Chen Ying.

“At such a distance, calls wouldn’t be of any use, and besides, with the leopard’s speed so fast, how could we possibly stop it?”

While they were talking, the large bird managed to flap its wings and take flight, and although it looked somewhat disheveled, it narrowly escaped the danger.

The bird flew in a circle and landed near another part of the swamp.

It was evident that the big bird held a grudge against the Northeast Leopard, flapping its wings and crying out to the sky while it walked.

The unsuccessful leopard could only gaze after the bird with a sigh and eventually ran off along the lake’s edge.

“This leopard, isn’t it the same one that came to our yard for food a few days ago?”

Much to his reluctance, Chen Ying had to nod in the affirmative, “Yes, that’s the one.”

Luckily, the leopard didn’t succeed, otherwise, this beautiful big bird—the national treasure, the red-crowned crane—would have ended up as nothing but feathers on the ground.

Upon discovering these red-crowned cranes, everyone’s spirits lifted instantly, and they decided to take another look.

Unfortunately, it seemed that not many Red-crowned Cranes had returned to their breeding grounds yet, and not all of them bred in the same location.

They continued searching for another half hour, deploying three drones, but still only found the few cranes in the reed beds.

Employees at the Forest Station notified their colleagues in the work group, as well as grid members from several nearby villages.

The lake was quite vast and so was the wetland area; it stretched in a long strip and was managed by several different administrative villages.

Since the vanguard of Red-crowned Cranes had already flown back, the main flock was surely going to arrive one after another during this period.

To protect these national treasures with long wings, during the breeding season of the Red-crowned Cranes, villagers from the surrounding areas would spontaneously form patrol teams and patrol the wetlands.

First, to prevent poaching, and second, to dissuade bird-watchers who came upon hearing the news from damaging the environment.

Every year, a large number of bird-watchers would flock here; the various trash they brought, as well as the constant effort to keep people out of the wetlands to protect the environment, gave the patrol members quite the headache.

However, the last few years had seen some improvement. Government departments at all levels had intensified their propaganda efforts, extended patrol hours, and selected a few convenient spots for bird-watching to construct walkways and observation decks, and they installed quite a few trash bins, which had helped improve the local environment.

But there was always a small number of individuals who didn’t like to play by the rules and would sneak into the wetlands to take photos while the patrol members were absent, self-righteously claiming it was for local promotion, without even asking if anyone wanted their kind of promotion.

Getting back to the point.

Anyway, after several years of joint efforts by the surrounding villages, the number of birds that came here to breed had been increasing, the ecosystem was getting better, and of course, the number of animals that liked to feed on birds had also risen.

Chen Ying operated the drone to make a round in the sky and discovered a small herd of deer to the northwest of their position; the Leopard was probably targeting those deer.

As for why it went after birds halfway through, one could only say felines are just that kind of capricious animal.

You never know what it’s going to do next.

After capturing a few shots of the Red-crowned Cranes, everyone prepared to head back.

Just as they were getting into the car, they saw the Leopard coming after them.

Chen Ying signaled for them to go ahead while he stayed behind to say goodbye to the Leopard.

“Two-legged beast, are you leaving?” the Leopard dropped the plump rabbit from its mouth and licked its tongue, “When will you come back?”

“I don’t know, what’s up?”

“You helped Little Tiger find a mate, I want to find one too.”

“Don’t you already have a female Leopard?”

“Having one more doesn’t hurt, if Little Tiger can find one, so can I!”

Chen Ying was irritated and slapped its head.

“I’ll ask around for you, and I’ll let you know next time I come over.”

“Then don’t forget. Here, this is for you to eat; make sure you remember.”

Chen Ying, both amused and exasperated, hugged its head and rubbed it vigorously, making the Leopard bare its teeth and grimace, yet it obediently endured without biting him.

“I won’t forget. You eat this; I have to go.”

Chen Ying pressed his forehead against the Leopard’s, said his farewells, and then the obedient Leopard stood still, watching the car he was in drive away.

“Dr. Chen, are you interested in working with us? I see that both the Tigers and Leopards around here really like you.”

“I can come by occasionally, but I can’t stay for the long term.”

Chen Ying looked in the rearview mirror at the Leopard still sitting in the same spot and sighed.

Attracting cats was also a burden, sweet as it was, the pressure was indeed huge.

After more than three hours of hustle, Chen Ying reached the nearest airport.

Just as he was about to go through security and board the plane, his phone rang.
