Freedom Jumper-Chapter 161: Taking Precautions
Chapter 161 - Taking Precautions
"Hey! You are with the Axeman, right!"
Elijah was instantly shocked from his gaze with the sudden chatter of a random adventurer. "Uhm, who is that?"
The black haired man dressed in black and gray military attire that bore a symbol of Gion continued walking closer towards the carriage. His head was constantly looking left and right as there were many people passing by avidly. "You are Elijah right?"
"Yes?"
"Buddy, they have been sending medic's to your aid trying to figure out why you weren't waking up... I need to let them know you have awoken! Please follow me!"
Elijah slumped out of the carriage while making sure not to damage his black leather and cotton garments. Following the man wasn't a drag by any means, but he knew what he was about to walk into...
'Damn... Is this really happening again?'
"Thank the gods you are okay! The medic's said they had no idea why you wouldn't wake up! I hope it's just because you needed sleep." Songa exclaimed while the entire caravan was seen sitting around a short but wide wooden table.
Every single member gave Elijah an awkward stare, even Niko, which confirmed his guess.
"I'm assuming I have to stay here while you guys do whatever?" Said Elijah while slightly turning his head, avoiding eye contact.
"Yes... But don't worry! You can come along tomorrow as long as you get a good night of rest tonight!" Songa's words had settled it, despite the fact the defector leader was the Axeman, Henry Axemen.
His broad shoulders and blonde hair painted a picture of him being a very notable figure. However, part of Elijah knew this man should be of a higher rank than a simple Knight...
Undebatable, the question of what Elijah would do with his day crossed his mind. While walking back outside the tent, the flavors of the wilderness and fire roasting meat were caught in his nostrils. Likely, the time of day was just after lunch – roughly 2 o'clock.
Elijah had wished he had a timelet, which is what these people called watches. A small banded bracelet that told time the very same way it was told in his previous life – at least until digital watches took over the simplemechanical spring watch.
Closeby, was a large rectangular wooden house reinforced with tasteful yet simple details to avoid the "lifeless" look. Elijah set off for the large building likely to be the headquarters of this camp, and walked in between many rushing people along the way. From the looks of the surroundings, a lot was happening, and some of it related to the preparation of food.
Upon walking through a tall wooden door, he was struck with the stomach of an incredibly tall man, someone who had trained his body for at least 3 decades. The chain torso-plate rubbed his face, slightly giving him a chill from the cold metal.
Looking down – barely able to fit his head through the door, a burly gentleman with a black braid going down behind his right ear professed. "Huh?! Who in the gods are you?!" Surprisingly, his voice was deeper than any voice Elijah had heard in both of his lives.
Silently, everyone in the near distance had completely stopped what they were doing, as if time stops before this man's suffocating aura. An aura that felt wildly real, pulling all life nearby into his hands.
Elijah coughed and stumbled backwards - rolling down the two steps of stairs...
Embarrassment!!
"...nmm damn! I-I..." Elijah was frozen without words that only reared half of their letters. Fear was what he felt as the knowledge to breath literally left his soul.
Not to mention the horrifying look the giant of a man possessed, which would break necks everywhere he went – receiving flinches while walking publicly in the cities.
"What are we even doing with these kids? He looks like he's from the slums!"
Thump Thump!
"I'll become nothing if I act like this in front of people." First, Elijah watched the giant skip the small staircase, then did what he had thought of first...
Splash!
"Oh my!... How could he!... That kid's dead... To General Hallowdane! How could he?!" So many voices of awe resounded within the outpost."
"Water? Makes sense why you are weak..." The Giant didn't even bother to wipe the water off of his face, and continued walking away. No reaction befitting that of the famous giant, and the Peacekeeper General.
"I'm not weak!" Elijah brought everyone into silence once again, and stopped the heavy footsteps of the giant.
"Oh yea little boy! Then show me..."
What the giant had said was considered a joke, but then even then, Elijah chose to follow through. Just barely, a small amount of mana allowed his body to glow, but not enough for anyone to notice.
Bam!
As expected, void of any notable effect, was Elijah's hand falling short of the giant face after the water under his feet had pushed him forward far faster than before. Behind him, were spectator's wiping their bodies down. While the Giant showed a face of fear.
Before Elijah's hand had left the shimmering white barrier, a miniscule crack was shown – slowly spreading. Ultimately, the Giant had evaporated his barrier he had somehow conjured. Then walked away in silence as he hoped to not allow anyone to find out.
Not many people had truly seen what had happened, while the few who did were seen as lunatics trying to spread a false rumor.
A kid just barely cracking the shield of The Giant?
Impossible!
This whole event had at first turned his mood extremely sour, and even caused a notable amount of fear to rise in his body. Quickly he was able to overcome this feeling with the desire to fight. It seemed everytime Elijah engaged in danger, his soiled mood had disappeared with tons of androgens exploding in his body.
Quickly, Elijah began walking to the tent he found everyone else in earlier, staring at a map that still laid on the large wooden table. All around him were bunk beds made from metal, as if trying to be as lightweight as possible. In total there were 16 bunks, the large map table in the center, and tall metal closets in the back signifying storage for every resident.
His bag was dropped in here after his conversation with Songa, and was still on the corner next to a book. A cloth bag of biltong was taken out of his bag, and began to be consumed while studying the map.
The insight he gained was a detailed view of the near area, which included the floating rock and the beginning of the mountain range. One action kept on popping into his head, and without so much as a little hesitation, he began strapping the invisible runes around his head, neck, and chest.
Quickly, the invisible runes began to glow, and seconds later, Elijah became a ghost that would travel through the daylight.
Questions about how long he would last, and whether he thought he should engage in battle appeared. However, the feeling of excitement was more profound than anything else — causing him to save that decision for later.
Just like that, flying above the head of everyone present – Elijah was able to get a view of literally every sight around him. In the north lays the jagged mountain range with a forest that slowly thins out the higher you go. The very start of the Northern Fjords.
Snow caps blanket the top, and sit not too far from the clouds. To the northeast, was a rock that was now confirmed to be a floating island with a thin hilly forest covering its surface. This floating island had violent wisps of air surrounding it which likely meant it was one of the few special mana geyser's.
To the west, was the infinite ocean, a place Elijah had yet to visit... Although, considering the harsh waves of the ocean, he wasn't necessarily anxious to visit.
"Ahhh... This... is what freedom feels like!"
