Chapter 40: Closing Scene: The Cursed Game’s Aftermath
Sian and the last remaining contestants cursed forest adventure came to an end for Sian and the last remaining contestants, each emerging from the darkness and embodying both relief and despair. As the dark of the day penetrated through the canopy of twisted trees behind the canopy the weight of their experience pressed heavily on their hearts.
The forest had stripped them of their innocence and entrapped them in shadows deeper than the sun could penetrate.
Sirens wailed in the distance with a piercing sound that echoed out the remnant of the eerie grace they found so momentarily in survival The army and police flooded the scene, their uniforms bright against the muted colours of grief and horror.
They guided trembling survivors to the waiting ambulances leading them like lost sheep seeking solace.
The civilians, their faces pale and filled with dread were carefully loaded into one ambulance while the remnants of the criminal group—injured and outnumbered—were herded into another vehicle. The stark contrast between the two groups highlighted the gravity of the situation creating an atmosphere of tension and unspoken tales.
Throughout the tense journey to the hospital, Sian sat in stony silence, his features etched with a mix of pain and despair. Despite his eyes closing he could not focus on the chaotic world around him: the sirens blaring, the shouting of emergency personnel and the confused murmurations of those in the vehicle.
Sian found himself sitting in the back of a sleek, dark private vehicle flanked by Lan Qisheng and his regiment of soldiers with their expressions scrimping and watchful. This wasn’t a sign of camaraderie or any misplaced affection from Lan Qisheng but simply the consequence of Sian’s reckless actions.
He had let his temper get the better of him, carelessly disposing of what he referred to as "dirt"—a decision that now placed The weight of the situation loomed over him, mixed anxieties and resignation creeping into his thoughts.
On the brighter side, they at least hadn’t shackled him with handcuffs or treated him with the overarching disdain reserved for common criminals.

When they finally arrived at the hospital scene was a whirlwind of action. Paramedics moved quickly through the injured and spoke swiftly in a rushed medical emergency.
Air filled with urgency which medical staff flitted about like bees in a garden. The scent of antiseptic hung in the air as if melting with the low murmur of hushed voices.
Although chaos did not yield a critical injury this has proved invaluable to the patient. Each patient was provided with an attentive hand by swift and caring hands moving the process in practised efficiency.
Sian found himself nestled in a private room the sterile white walls contrasting starkly with the swirling chaos in his mind. He lay there motionless, his gaze fixed on the ceiling empty of colour—just as his life felt now.
Memories carried over his head like echoes in an empty chamber each moment sharp and vivid but tinged with a sense of longing.
One picture broke through the haze among the fleeting snapshots: a boy with laughter in his eyes, the one who had called him "Gege."
The connection struck him like a lightning bolt to spark a swirling list of questions. The masked man who whistled and clapped enthusiastically after his song came to mind leaving behind a bitter taste of confusion on his tongue.
[Could it be him? If I am here, there’s no reason why he wouldn’t come to this world, too. Why has he become so wanted? He hated violence, blood killing and everything violent. What could have happened to him all these years ago?]
Thoughts swirled endlessly, each layer of frustration on aching temples dragging his already aching hands. No answer came only an overwhelming sense of loss and turmoil that draped over him like a heavy shield.
As his exhaustion crept in and claimed him, Sian slipped into a restless sleep. His mind still actively spinning in confusion.
When he awoke the room was softened by the golden hues of late afternoon light that were streaming through the window and casting gentle patterns on the wall. He quickly sensed something amiss; he felt his presence linger.
Sitting up slowly, Sian’s heartbeat as he focused on the figure at his bedside. Lan Qisheng’s deep blue eyes viewed him with an intensity that sent a jolt of recognition through his veins. The familiar gaze held a mixture of concern and something unspoken, stirring whirlpools within Sian. freewёbn૦νeɭ.com
After a few stunned seconds, he turned his attention to the elderly man beside Lan whose white hair framed I’m sure the face bore the unvendible marks of time yet carried an undeniable strength.
The old man looked down at Sian with a gentle expression that held layers of history behind him.
Yet, inside that warmth cranked a hint of obsession an intense focus that set Sian’s instincts on edge.
General Lan was interested in Sian purely because of his incredible skills. He had always admired talent and actively supported the gifted.
After witnessing Sian’s abilities General Lan had a high opinion of him—especially since this boy had saved not only his foolish grandson’s life but also the lives of others.
General Lan welcomed Sian with a warm and inviting smile holding his hand to him. His demeanour exuded an air of genuine goodwill. "Greetings, young man. I am General Lan. It is indeed a pleasure to make your acquaintance.
Sian felt the sincerity behind his older man’s steady gaze and felt compelled to respond in kind. He grasped the general’s hand firmly. Then there ran a hint of awe as he heard respect flowing through him.
But as the handshake concluded there was a shifting of the atmosphere. General Lan’s expression grew solemn and his voice took on a heavy tone. Almost. "Child," said he, the gravity of his words hanging in the air and that it required you to grasp the magnitudes of your actions in the forest.
