Chapter 67: The Conan Effect: Sian’s Bad Luck
The restaurant Lan Qisheng had chosen wasn’t far; it was a luxurious establishment that had recently opened in City B. Of course, the owner had a chain of restaurants across multiple countries, which was why it had already gained significant fame despite only being open for two days.
The restaurant’s name was "Ultraviolet by Paul Pairet", a name Lan Qisheng didn’t even understand. But honestly, as long as it was something that could make his beloved leave the house for a date with him, the last thing he cared about was the restaurant’s name.
When the two arrived, they stepped into the majestic, cutting-edge establishment, adorned with breathtaking murals and decor. The furniture alone was worth millions, and it truly deserved its reputation as the most expensive and prestigious restaurant.
Sian was excited to try something exotic. Ever since he arrived in this world, he had been eager to experience all kinds of food, indulging in a variety of dishes. Having suffered from hunger during difficult times in the past, he had developed a habit of finishing every single bite on his plate, even if he didn’t particularly like the taste. This, of course, was a major headache for Lan Qisheng, who often had to stop him before he overindulged and ended up sick.
Honestly, it was a miracle that Sian hadn’t gained several extra kilos from all that eating and sleeping over the past month.
The two of them sat down—one eagerly awaiting his meal, while the other gazed at him with gentle affection, an unmistakable love shining through his deep blue eyes.
But fate had other plans for them. Their peaceful, romantic dinner was not meant to be.
Lan Qisheng had deliberately chosen not to dine in a private room, allowing Sian to take in his surroundings. He knew how curious his lover was—Sian could stare at a random tree on the street multiple times as if it were the most fascinating thing in the world. But now, he regretted that decision completely.
"Oh, look who we have here! Hello, Sian. Did your owner take you out for a fancy meal? Can he even afford it?"
A mocking voice interrupted their moment.
Standing before them with an air of arrogance—his entire demeanour screaming "Look at me"— was Jiang Hangyu. He was accompanied by Song Zijian, who was clinging to his arm in an overly affectionate manner. If one ignored the latter’s almost theatrical clinginess, they made a rather striking pair.
However, when Sian didn’t react to his arrival—not even sparing him a glance—Jiang Hangyu’s temper flared.
The last time he had seen Sian was a month ago at the charity gala, which had turned into a complete nightmare. When chaos broke out, Jiang Hangyu had hidden under a banquet table, cowering there until the police arrived. Because of that, he had no idea what had happened. What he did know, however, was that the whole ordeal had severely damaged his image. Thankfully, no media personnel had been present, or he would have become the laughingstock of millions.
No one could understand the sheer humiliation he felt when the police found him curled up under the table, some of them even stifling laughter at his pathetic display.
For some reason, the powerful CEO had erased all of his anger from Sian. If it weren’t for him, none of this would have happened.
Of course, if Sian knew what Jiang Hangyu was thinking, he would have choked on his drink.
Brother, what is your problem? How is it my fault that you chose to hide under a table like a rat? Your choice, your decision—don’t drag me into it.
"Brother Sian, you’re being too much. You can’t just ignore President Jiang like this. After all, he was once your boss. At the very least, show some respect," Song Zijian chimed in, puffing up his cheeks, trying his best to look adorable.
Little did he know, he only ended up looking like a cheap green tea wh*re trying to stir up drama.
Sian sighed—not because of the fake lotus standing in front of him, but because of how pathetic acting managed to fool so many people.
Finally, he opened his mouth, but the words he spoke were anything but pleasant.
"If you two are done barking, get out of my sight. I want to eat my meal, and I don’t think I’ll have much of an appetite if I have to keep looking at... this."
He deliberately emphasized the last word, looking them up and down in blatant disdain.
"You heard him. Roll."
Lan Qisheng finally spoke, his voice laced with a dangerous chill. The oppressive aura he released made the very air around them feel heavier. frёeωebɳovel.com
Where would the arrogant CEO and his lotus companion find the courage to stand up against such an overwhelming presence?
Alas, no matter how visibly they shook their legs, they would not withdraw.
Jiang Hangyu’s face twitched as he tried to come up with a solution to this dilemma. Then, his eyes lit up with excitement, and he smiled a beautiful smile.
A chill ran down Sian’s spine.
No, he was not intimidated by this fellow. Having survived for years in a terrorizing post-apocalyptic world, there wasn’t anyone capable of scaring him.
But currently, a sense of foreboding enveloped him—a disturbing premonition that his peaceful, idyllic, salad fish life was about to be destroyed.
As if to confirm his intuition, Jiang Hangyu spoke to him in a calming, composed voice, becoming a CEO.
"Sian, as someone who was under contract with my company, you and I still have some unfinished business to discuss."
"...Excuse me?"
Sian blinked, utterly confused.
"President Jiang, I think you should see a doctor. Your memory is failing you. You fired me a long time ago. You even let me take all my belongings from the dormitory."
Sian hadn’t forgotten the original owner’s past. A few days after he was discharged from the hospital following the forest incident, he and Lan Qisheng had gone to collect everything that belonged to the previous Sian.
As he recalled this, Jiang Hangyu’s voice rang out once again, this time carrying a smug, mocking undertone.
"Oh, but you haven’t met the termination conditions."
"...What?"
Sian frowned, puzzled by the cryptic statement.
Unfortunately, his confusion didn’t last long. Jiang Hangyu soon dropped the bombshell that made his expression freeze.
"The last contract you signed stated that to terminate your employment, you had to complete the entertainment program for a full month—thirty days, to be exact.
Now tell me, how many days did you spend in the forest?"
With a smug grin, Jiang Hangyu delivered his final blow.
Silence.
Then, a second later, Sian’s voice rang out—loud, clear, and unmistakably furious.
It was hoarse with rage, tinged with something almost like despair. But his words...
They were far from refined.
"Fck. Fck this goddamn luck. I knew it. I just knew that going out wasn’t going to be a good idea!"
Cursing under his breath, Sian muttered a few more expletives before finally turning to look at Lan Qisheng.
