Chapter 95: The Kidnapping and the Mysterious Deaths
Jiao Liangchen, observing the fleeting shadow of unease that crossed Sian’s face, felt a surge of compassion. His brow furrowed slightly, and his lips pressed together as if holding back unspoken worries. With a voice as soft as a whispering breeze, he leaned in slightly and said, "If something is troubling you, I can help."
So don’t wear that kind of expression on your face. He didn’t voice the latter part of his sentence, only saying it in his heart.
Sian lifted his gaze, scrutinizing the man standing before him. It wasn’t that he needed the other’s help—he didn’t want to ask for it. But he was curious. Why was this man offering assistance? Hadn’t they just met two days ago? Were all the people working in the military and intelligence services of this country this kindhearted?
"It’s fine. I don’t need any help. In fact, this matter has nothing to do with me." Sian sighed, answering the man after clearing his thoughts.
"Can you tell me what the other party said to you on the phone? What case is it about?"
"Well, judging by the nature of your work, you probably already know," Sian replied with a mysterious smile, raising an eyebrow at Jiao Liangchen.
When he received no reaction from the man, he clicked his tongue in boredom. "Tsk, boring." He then stopped playing around and simply relayed what Old Lan had told him. Sian wasn’t afraid of leaking classified information or anything. After all, he was certain of Jiao Liangchen’s profession—and more importantly, that the man was neither his enemy nor an enemy of this country.
"Old Lan said that the Foreign Minister of Country C and his daughter went missing two days ago. Their last known location places them on this island. That’s why Lan Qisheng has been ordered to remain undercover and search for any clues leading to the missing individuals.
Additionally, the military suspects that the underground terrorist organization responsible for what happened in the forest back then might also be behind this kidnapping. News of the incident has already reached Country C, causing tensions between our nations. They are demanding the safe return of the two without any injuries. Otherwise, they might turn hostile against us. There’s even the risk of war breaking out.
Perhaps the real reason behind this urgency is that the Foreign Minister’s daughter is actually the fiancée of the President’s son."
As Sian recounted the situation, his sharp gaze observed every nuance in the man’s expression. And as expected...
Sian’s eyes darkened as he spoke in a serious tone, "Of course, this is old news to you. The real reason you’re here is to investigate and rescue the hostages, isn’t it?"
Jiao Liangchen, whose mission had just been exposed, neither panicked nor denied it.
After a brief silence, he finally spoke in a clear voice, his deep black eyes unwavering.
"Agent 01, Jiao Liangchen. Codename: Falcon. Aegis Intelligence Division."
Sian looked at him with an expression that said, I knew it.
Jiao Liangchen couldn’t help but chuckle softly at the teenager’s smug face, which practically screamed, Look, I was right. However, his expression soon turned serious again as he spoke slowly.
"Our agents were responsible for protecting the Foreign Minister and his family. Unfortunately, two days ago, when the minister’s daughter wanted to go out to sea for leisure, our agents tried to dissuade her. It would have been difficult to ensure her safety in an open space, and the risks were too high.
But the minister doted on his daughter and never refused her requests. So, despite our warnings, he approved the outing and ordered us to accompany them for protection.
The security detail assigned to them consisted of our top ten agents. However, in the middle of the day, they suddenly called for backup. By the time we arrived... it was too late.
All my colleagues were dead.
The minister and his daughter had vanished without a trace.
There were no surveillance recordings of the battle. No evidence is left behind.
If not for my comrades’ cold corpses, I wouldn’t have even believed that a kidnapping and mass slaughter had taken place—in broad daylight.
But the most baffling thing...
The bodies were intact.
And when I say intact, I mean it literally. There wasn’t a single fatal wound on them. Their hearts had simply stopped beating. They... just died."
"...What?"
Sian’s pupils constricted suddenly.
He had been listening to the man’s words without much change in expression. Death didn’t scare him, nor was a daytime abduction too far-fetched if the enemy was confident in their strength.
But when Jiao Liangchen mentioned that the bodies were completely intact and that no one knew the cause of death...
Sian reacted. And he reacted strongly.
Even Lan Qisheng, who had arrived at some point and had been quietly listening, narrowed his eyes in concern at the teenager. Finally, with some hesitation, he spoke.
"...Sian."
He didn’t ask anything.
For some reason, he didn’t need to.
The transformation in Sian’s expression—from shock to deep anxiety—was enough to unsettle even Lan Qisheng.
In that moment, he even caught a fleeting glimpse of something unfamiliar in those ever-confident, unwavering amber eyes.
Fear.
Real fear.
Lan Qisheng’s thoughts raced.
[What kind of existence... could shake Sian to this extent? Even his beloved is afraid? What the hell is going on?]
Unlike Lan Qisheng, Jiao Liangchen wasn’t one to remain silent.
When he saw Sian’s reaction, he immediately understood—this teenager probably had an idea about why they couldn’t determine the cause of death.
And perhaps, he knew even more than that.
Without wasting a second, Jiao Liangchen pressed,
"Sian, do you know something? Can you tell me?"
"After days filled with relentless investigation and thorough autopsies, our search for answers has led us to a dead end."
"Please... if you hold any knowledge about the circumstances surrounding their tragic deaths, I beg you to share it with me."
Sian looked at the two men standing before him, but his mind was elsewhere. He couldn’t listen to Jiao Liangchen’s pleas—not because he didn’t want to, but because he simply couldn’t.
