Chapter 39: Damn!

Julian had no experiences in facing monsters as brutal as this.

The mech monster he faced about an hour ago simply wasn’t too ruthless, and that was what gave him time to even get motivated.

What if this was the monster he had faced back then? He would be sure dead.

Very well dead.

This one didn’t talk; it just plunged, no warning, no signs, just raw brutality.

And now, with the way it looked at them, it sure was their turn.

Rehul was already shivering, her breaths shudders.

Julian too was scared, but he didn’t make it evident.

Moreover, he was to be the brave one here, so why should he be scared?

The steel monster gnawed its teeth together, casting a stern look at the both of them.

They still had hope. He believed that. They still had a chance.

But then it depends on one thing.

Could this monster fly?

That was it, if it could, then they were cooked.

The steel monster hesitated for long, so long Julian couldn’t that perhaps it couldn’t fly?

He was right though.

’The steel monster couldn’t fly...’

Julian and Rehul, exchanging glances, gave a sigh of relief.

’The steel monster couldn’t fly...’

Julian had this strange feeling in his gut something was about to happen.

’The monster couldn’t fly...’

It couldn’t fly? But then, were they safe?

Were they really free?

Julian couldn’t say.

The monster couldn’t fly...

But then it could do a giant leap!

Damn!

No wonder the words:

The monster couldn’t fly...’

Kept repeating in his mind.

Thooom!

The monolithic steel monster shot into the air. More like bounced. Julian was astonished. He had been expecting something he knew, but now that it happened, he felt afraid.

And Julian shouldn’t be afraid; at least he had gravitation powers. He could just send this monster back.

But then, the brutality. He wasn’t as brutal as this beast.

The way it attacked the ranting man and the lady that behaved like she didn’t car, it was enough to make him scared.

Now, the question was, could he face this monster—could he really face it?

Rehul seemed to be a disability. With him carrying her, there was no way he could face this monster.

Had bringing Rehul along been a good idea?

He honestly thought she would be of help.

That she would be a big help to, you know, helping him to face monsters.

Xea had told him there were monsters—large and ruthless ones.

But then, he had never expected them to be this brutal.

This would surely rip him apart, he knew.

The monster came at him; he swerved sideways, flying more upwards.

The monster looked at him and clicked its steel teeth.

By the looks of it, this couldn’t speak like the mech monster.

So, no words, just pure action.

Julian took that to notice.

If he ever would survive this, then he would know he was destined to kick the ass of the Imperium.

Julian had a plan. He would have to run—and by run, he would do so in the air.

Whoosh!

He plunged forward, holding Rehul very tightly in his hands.

The monster followed them from land, running like all hell had been let loose.

Rehul looked at Julian in the face and said:

"Seems I’m not of much help."

Her voice was barely audible. She was ruthless alright, on the norms she could fight, but now, she and Julian were scared. With Julian acting more brave.

Rehul held Julian very tight and sunk her head on his chest.

Julian kept flying ahead. He could see dunes rocky looking ones, all over the ground. ƒrēenovelkiss.com

He knew rocky dunes to be hard, and when stepped upon, could injure the leg. But then, this monster was stepping on them like they were cookies.

Crunch!

Crunch!

Crunch!

"How do I take on this thing?" Julian asked Xea, his voice a stutter and a whisper.

Rehul was too terrified to hear anything, so he was safe.

He just didn’t want her to hear what he was saying.

’[A moment, let me scan the monster.]’

Julian nodded. Debris was all he could see. With rocks, looking like podiums standing alone.

This place didn’t have much of something to make out. Perhaps to create a world building from?

It was like an empty place—a broken remnant of a city brutally destroyed by these steel monsters.

The steel monster wasn’t going to make him have a smooth ride. It was already throwing him spiky looking rocks. Ones that looked so spiky Julian was sure if it met his armor, it would surely pierce it and get to his skin.

Julian swerved a lot at this point, dodging the spiky rocks, saving his life and that of Rehul.

If that ranting man hadn’t shouted at them, he wouldn’t be facing this brutal beast, as his earlier plan was to be very silent—and even though he would face them, it would be like a silent attack. Like him just sneaking up on it and slitting its throat.

The monster kept throwing the spiky looking rocks, and Julian kept dodging.

He was not too up in the sky, but from the position he was flying, he doubted if the monster would be able to leap...

The steel monster leapt...

Julian gasped.

"Damn!"

The steel monster’s hands brushed against the armor covering his legs.

Julian was shaken a bit; he even almost fell.

Steadying himself seemed to be really hard, but he did it nonetheless.

Thump!

The steel monster landed on the floor. It was seemingly frustrated that it couldn’t get Julian.

What it had in mind was to leap in the air, grab Julian by the legs, bring him down—Rehul would surely fall, as Julian was the one carrying her.

Then...

The steel monster would likely (more like surely) kill Julian and Rehul.

Julian heaved a sigh of relief. That was sure close.

He had been flying quite slowly since, and that was what made the steel monster have the opportunity to leap at him.

Xea came on now:

’[This is what I scanned of the steel monster.]’

Letters suddenly flooded Julian’s vision. He kept flying but had to see this real quick.

He could see the steel monster’s info.

[Name: Steel monster]

[Rank: Ruthless Brutality]

[Powers: Pure adrenaline in combat, grinds teeth, crushes skulls. Really strong and can leap very, very high]

Julian breathed really hard.

He looked at the monster. It was standing akimbo. That looked weird to Julian. Like what was it trying to do?

"Weakness?" he asked.

[Brain] he saw.

’Brain?’ Julian thought.

He decided to ask Xea.

"Brain?"

"[Yes,]" Xea said. "Brain. Try to crush it and they’ll be too senseless to fight you."

Julian was shocked.

What did Xea mean by ’they’ll’?

Were there more?

Just when he was about to ask Xea, he saw an answer to his question.

The steel monster gave out a loud cry and hit its fists on the ground.

Rehul raised her head up, and she and Julian exchanged glances.

What could they expect?

What was coming?

Julian suddenly noticed caves up ahead. They looked high-tech and...

"Damn!" he muttered. He hadn’t noticed it before.

But now that wasn’t the problem.

The problem was:

Many steel monsters were running out of the cave.
