Chapter 33: Seedbeds

In Loen City, guilds registered in the System that can participate in Tournaments are also called Seedbeds.

They are called this because most, if not all, of them are affiliated with high-ranking Guilds and are dedicated to finding or creating new geniuses in these small cities to send to the larger guilds. Either as normal members or as potential participants in the highest-ranking tournaments.

Seedbed Guilds tend to participate in only two types of tournaments: the Tournament of Stars and the Leveled Leagues, a type of tournament that takes place in the second year after the World Cup Year and is also the first official tournament in the System.

In Loen City, the Tournament of Stars was created to select five people who could bear the title of "Star Knight," which would be the five most powerful among the novices. These novices would receive financial support from various local guilds and be supported in joining large guilds, aiming to bring honor to the city. It is a risky gamble aimed at increasing the city's overall power.

This tournament has become popular among small towns, so many use the same system.

In this case, Elliot must join one of these seed guilds, as his mission is to participate in the Tournament of Stars, which will be held soon.

Elliot had several guilds he could try to join. He ruled out the Clark guild and the Ashle Family guild because they were allied families. That left only guilds that didn't belong to any family, which, according to his research, were the best.

Among those, the Elemental Academy and Hawk's Fury were ruled out, since Tyler Clark had been raised at the Academy and was currently in Hawk's Fury's main organization. That didn't leave many organizations, some allied with the Clarks and immediately ruled out.

In the end, only two remained. One of them, Angelic Wave, had closed enrollment, so he was forced to try in Broken Leaf, where he was headed right now.

Broken Leaf is an organization whose origins he does not know, but he knows it is remarkably powerful in the City and has a lot of money.

'Although they are demanding, I am confident that I can enter. John won the last Tournament, and he is only that strong. With the new weapon and the points I have available, I should be able to enter without too many problems.'

He looked at his system.

[Statistics]

| Strength: 25. [+5]

| Stamina: 13. [+1]

| Agility: 20. [+2]

| Sense: 9. [+2]

[Remaining Points: 10.]

During these days, he has been walking around the city. He visited several gyms and also numerous libraries, where the Sense Attribute is created. Thanks to that, he gained five additional stat points.

"With all this, I'm sure I can get in. But I won't add them yet. Let's be patient. I beat the weakest Star Knight, which means that my strength with that strange ability is above his. Although I don't know the rest of the Star Knights, so I might have trouble beating them in combat, even if they're as strong as John."

He looked ahead as a huge building came into view. The Broken Leaf Guild's slogan was emblazoned high above it.

"I can do this," he whispered.

...

Joferth Guilwing rushed through the building where he worked, carrying a few documents, as he headed toward his boss's office.

From the moment he had been saved by a 'mysterious' person, he began to investigate thoroughly, trying to find out who it was so he could thank them.

But the more he investigated, the more shocked he was.

"A person famous as the weakest misfit in town, Elliot Clark... Did someone like that awaken?"

If someone told Joferth that a Misfit could awaken, he would immediately slap them. Perhaps Misfits and normal people wouldn't understand, but he and all the awakened ones would.

Who is a Misfit, according to the System? Someone who was considered 'Unworthy'. The system rejects them, so they could never awaken.

But this guy did it...

'It doesn't make sense. So that means he was working as a Misfit when he was a normal person... That's amazing, and it's the first time it's ever happened. His body must be more than special to endure so many years. Now that he's awakened, we must bring that man to the guild.'

That's why he walked straight to the Guild Leader's office and knocked on the door.

On the other side, a calm voice allowed him to enter.

"It's open."

Then Joferth entered.

The man on the other side was surprised to see him. "Joferth, what brings you here?"

"Master Steward, the Clarks' enemy has just become an Awakened One. And his awakening is not just anything."

His sudden response shocked Master Steward, who stopped typing on the computer for a moment but resumed his work after a few seconds.

"Your saying that makes me think you don't know who the Clark family's real enemy is."

"Sir, I've been investigating the Clarks since that event, and besides you, I think I'm the one who knows the most about them in the Guild. That's why I know that their greatest enemy is actually a Misfit, Elliot Clark."

Finally, Steward had to stop and frown. He stared intently at his subordinate.

"Do you think a Misfit can Awaken?"

Joferth shook his head. "No, sir. But... what if he wasn't really a Misfit?" As he said this, Joferth placed the documents he was holding on the table.

"Remember a few days ago when we reported a situation to the Association? I almost died that day."

Steward grabbed the documents suspiciously. "I remember. I'm still angry at those bastards for that, and we even buried one of them for being a traitor. Are you saying that Elliot Clark was the one who saved you that day?"

"Yes, sir. Not only did he save me, but he could kill those two-legged rats with a casual blow. In seconds, he took care of all the rats attacking me and then went deeper into the dungeon. I found that he recently sold more than 600 rats to the Association. He is responsible for the rat population decreasing so much."

Steward nodded slightly. "It looks like he awoke two years ago... Despite that, his talent is amazing. He should already be at the level of an Awakened One, right?"

Joferth smiled. "He didn't awake two years ago, sir."

"Oh?" Steward looked at him. "It says here that his birthday is September 3rd... That was a week ago. It's impossible for him to have awakened a week ago, so did he do it four years ago? That would make him a boy with decent talent..."

But once again, Joferth shook his head.

"He didn't awaken four years ago. It was a week ago."
