Grand Voyage : Surviving on a Ghost Ship-Chapter 137 - Witch’s Set
Extreme Winter Sea.
The white mist was much thinner, visibility stretched over ten metres even without lighting a fire.
A ship slowly approached, radiating a soft pinkish-white glow.
Wherever the light touched, the white mist melted away like snow under the blazing sun. But this wasn’t firelight, it came from a special lantern mounted at the ship’s bow.
It was a fleshy tendril, about as thick as an arm, curving forward and drooping down. At the tip hung a glowing, bulbous lantern shaped like a liquid droplet, resembling the rubber tip of a dropper.
A man was crouched on deck, fishing. He wore a one-piece fleece outfit.
“It’s here!”
With a shout, he pulled up his rod. A large deep-sea fish flopped onto the deck.
“Finally, after twenty straight hours of fishing!”
The man let out a long sigh of relief.
For an ordinary person, it would be nearly impossible to fish for twenty hours straight, especially in temperatures that low. Not to mention the abysmal catch rate of the Extreme Winter Sea, getting skunked was the norm. Catching a big fish like this was near impossible.
Only the Fisherman was different. His ship had a special ability: as long as he kept fishing, he would eventually catch something.
Combined with Captain He Qi’s expert skills and bottomless patience, he’d never go hungry, even in brutal waters. In fact, he’d eaten so much fish that he was sick of it, forced to change up the cooking methods just to stomach another bite.
He finished off the fish with a harpoon and started considering how to prepare it.
“Bones for soup... skin grilled... meat, let’s try it raw first…”
Just as he was thinking, a private message came in from his friend Yang Yi.
“Brother He, do you have any gear enhancement stones?”
Back aboard the Nightmare Star, Yang Yi had gotten up early.
First, he headed to the bow to lift the anchor, disengage the Twilight Veil, and adjust course and speed. After that, he tried to get in touch with the seasoned angler He Qi.
“Which kind do you want?” came the reply.
Yang Yi’s eyes lit up. Looked like this guy really had some, maybe even more than one.
“Any mid-grade ones?” Yang Yi asked hopefully.
“I had some before, but used them already,” He Qi replied, sending an item description and photo and casually including the nearly two-metre fish beside him, as if it just happened to be in frame.
【Name: Fleece Suit of the Fluffy Seal King】
【Type: Treasure】【Quality: Excellent】【Description: A one-piece fleece suit made from the hide of the Fluffy Seal King. This fleece adjusts its internal temperature based on the environment, keeping the wearer in an optimal comfort zone regardless of extreme cold or heat. Waterproof, and provides solid defense as well.】
Yang Yi’s eyes nearly popped out of his head. That insanely valuable treasure was used… to enhance winter clothing?
He didn’t even know what to say.
But He Qi had a simple reason: the temperature was too low — it messed with his fishing. So, he upgraded the fleece to excellent quality. Since then, he hadn’t felt cold again.
After hearing that, Yang Yi changed his mind.
Enhancing cold-weather gear would let him ignore the extreme chill entirely, eliminating the need to build fires, saving tons of wood. No fire also meant less risk of attracting Ice Nest Worms. He could fish freely.
That’s how He Qi had later caught a giant anglerfish.
After killing it and running it through the vending machine, he got a rare ship item: the Giant Anglerfish Lantern, which could dispel white mist and boost fishing efficiency.
It was like a seamless chain reaction. Step by step, one thing leading to another, until the deadlock was broken.
The Extreme Winter Sea posed no threat to him anymore. Relying solely on fishing to sustain himself, he cleared the entire zone through sheer self-sufficiency.
The most dangerous moment he’d faced was reeling in that giant anglerfish and getting into a brawl with it.
Thankfully, He Qi came out on top.
Looking back, upgrading his cold-weather gear had been the right move.
The two chatted for a while.
Yang Yi bought two Low-grade Artisan Engraving Stones from He Qi at the market price of 80,000 Shell Coins each.
He Qi had been holding onto them unused. Clearly, the man had more than a few rare pieces of gear stashed away.
“So, this is the power of a fishing pro?” Yang Yi couldn’t help but marvel.
With the deal done, the two artisan stones were now in Yang Yi’s possession.
He made his way to the Witch’s Laboratory.
Inside, Suna was wearing a gas mask to block odours and was feeding long-legged sardines with mushrooms. But there were only three sardines now, as two had died the night before.
They’d slammed into the glass enclosure repeatedly trying to reach the mushrooms, ultimately bashing themselves to death. Even the remaining three had signs of limping legs.
Suna had now lined the glass with soft sea sponge, hoping to prevent further injuries.
Yang Yi handed her the two artisan stones.
“For me?”
“Yeah. Try upgrading the pouch and the clothes.”
Suna was surprised.
But instead of rushing to use them, she handed Yang Yi a gas mask.
“You should wear one too.”
He took it and slipped it on, instantly shielding himself from the aroma of the mushrooms.
After a day of being left out, the mushrooms had begun to rot slightly. Suna had placed them on a bed of white ice shard eggs to slow the decay.
When rotting, the mushrooms gave off an incredibly rich aroma, stronger than before, and oddly more appealing.
Suna paused her feeding and upgraded the Witch’s Casualwear and Witch’s Treasure Pouch.
Both pieces were boosted from Fine to Rare quality, and the resulting stat jump surprised even her.
She shared the updated information with Yang Yi:
【Name: The Witch’s Refined Treasure Pouch】
【Type: Artifact】【Quality: Rare】【Description: A portable pouch carried by witches, worn close to the body for easy access. It has an internal storage space of two cubic metres. If the witch owns a Witch's Laboratory, the pouch can be linked directly to it, allowing transfer of items and subdued living creatures.Witches love collecting anything that piques their curiosity — consent not required.】
【Name: The Witch’s Refined Casualwear】
【Type: Artifact】【Quality: Rare】【Description: The witch’s day-to-day outfit, stylish and practical — waterproof and warm, but also wearable even in scorching summer. +1 to Spirit, greatly speeds up Sanity regeneration. When sanity drops below 50, the clothing becomes chilly to alert the witch — but it doesn't always work. Cautious witches track their sanity closely. Sadly, most aren't that diligent.】
Yang Yi finished reading and couldn’t help but nod to himself.
As expected, any item with the “witch” tag was likely part of a special equipment set, clearly tailored for witches.
The treasure pouch had a huge upgrade, it could link to the lab. Even though it only allowed input, not retrieval, that was still a massive boost.
If they found an interesting aberration or some bizarre creature worth researching, they wouldn’t have to drag it back by hand.
As for the witch’s casualwear, it had a rare Spirit boost and even came with a sanity warning system.
“Now all that’s left is the witch’s dagger, I’ll need two more artisan stones for that.
Then there’s the bow, resupply items, and the materials to upgrade the ship to level 4…”
Yang Yi ran through his to-do list, preparing for the journey.
He wasn’t planning on saving much money. If he found a top-tier enhancement stone, he didn’t mind becoming broke again.
After all, rare gear offered limited benefits to someone like him, who could already transcend the ordinary.
