Grand Voyage : Surviving on a Ghost Ship-Chapter 144 - Minor surgery
Yang Yi continued testing the armour.
"Can you write?"
The armor nodded, but it meant the opposite — it couldn't write!
"Retract the spikes."
All the spikes on the armour sank back in; some had grown nearly 20cm long.
"Extend the spikes."
The spikes retracted again.
By this point, Yang Yi was certain: it possessed self-awareness, yet was extremely rebellious, doing the exact opposite of any command!
He looked around and spotted a wooden barrel not far away. Taking a few backward steps, he picked it up and placed it in front of the armor.
"Punch this barrel with your left fist!"
The armour didn't move.
"Don't punch this barrel with your left fist!"
The moment the words left his mouth, it struck out, smashing the barrel to pieces on the spot.
"Punch me with your left fist."
Almost as if compelled by some strange impulse, Yang Yi issued the command, and the armour immediately swung a punch at his face.
Fortunately, he'd been keeping a third eye open and managed to dodge at the last second.
The armour’s left arm had detached and launched like a rocket punch. It flew past Yang Yi and blew a hole in the wall of Suna’s room.
Then it flew back in reverse and reattached itself, as if nothing had happened.
Yang Yi's expression turned cold, he realised he had misjudged the situation. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓
The armour wasn’t just rebellious; it harbored hostility towards him. Like a defiant child, it liked doing the opposite of what it was told.
However, if the command allowed it to attack him, it would carry it out without hesitation.
Fortunately, the armour still obeyed the rule of only acting on commands. It wouldn’t attack on its own because otherwise, he’d be in real trouble.
As for autonomous behaviour, it seemed like it would act independently if given a continuous instruction. For example, if told “don’t follow so-and-so,” it would proceed to follow them without end.
Yang Yi didn’t continue testing. He put the armour back into the charred worm ring and sent Suna a message:
“Sorry, I accidentally put a hole in your wall. But it’s no big deal, Bone Arm will repair it in no time!”
No command was necessary, as the Nightmare Star had a self-repair function. The Bone Arm immediately filled the hole, ensuring no drafts could get through. It just looked like a white patch.
Suna didn’t get upset over such a minor issue. Instead, she asked Yang Yi to come to the lab.
Soon, Yang Yi entered the ship’s hold and made his way to the lab.
The first batch of Fire Liquor had been completed. Due to improvements in the production method, it had turned into Craft Fire Liquor, but its quality remained excellent.
【Name: Craft Fire Liquor】
【Type: Consumable】【Quality: Excellent】【Description: Higher purity than standard Fire Liquor. Not for heavy consumption, may cause burns and drunkenness. A small, moderate amount increases cold resistance. Will make you sweat profusely even in winter. Highly flammable.】
Yang Yi took a small sip and immediately flushed red, breaking into a sweat. The cold-resistance effect seemed even stronger than the regular version, but the burning heat that surged through his body was also more intense. Definitely something to drink slowly.
If he’d had the means to mass-produce it during the Extreme Winter Sea expedition, he could’ve made a fortune.
A ton of Fire Bananas could yield over 200 liters of Craft Fire Liquor, not a huge output. After some brief thought, Yang Yi gave up on the idea of selling it.
Once Shen Guanquan’s Fire Bananas began bearing fruit, then he would consider selling.
Previously, they had harvested two tons from the island, very little was spoiled. Brewing 400 litres of Craft Fire Liquor wouldn't be a problem. It could serve as a regular fuel source aboard the Nightmare Star.
Once the fats and oils ran out, he could use Fire Liquor to make alcohol lamps or even alcohol torches for the lab. Yang Yi thought that was the end of it and turned to leave.
"Wait!"
Suna grabbed him.
"What is it?"
"About that super-magic potion… I think I’ve figured it out. It was probably made using the bodily fluid of some kind of creature, most likely cerebrospinal fluid! So…"
Suna hesitated, her cheeks tinged with embarrassment, clearly unsure how to continue.
"So what?"
"Can I extract a bit of your cerebrospinal fluid?"
"Goodbye!"
Yang Yi turned on his heel and strode out of the lab without so much as a glance back.
"Wait, then take mine instead. Use this syringe and draw about five millimetres."
Suna chased after him, calling out.
Yang Yi froze mid-step and slowly turned around, only to see Suna holding out a specially designed syringe. The needle was longer than an index finger and gleamed with a chilling metallic sheen.
"Is this absolutely necessary?"
"Yes."
Suna’s tone left no room for negotiation.
…
A few minutes later, Yang Yi was lying on that all-too-familiar metal table. He’d been on it plenty of times before but this time, he was lying face-down.
Suna dabbed some Fire Liquor onto his lower back to disinfect the area, then prepared to puncture his spine with the syringe and extract the cerebrospinal fluid.
Medically, it was actually a fairly common minor procedure. After the puncture, the patient typically had to rest in position for several hours. But for someone like Yang Yi, it probably wouldn't matter even if he didn’t stay prone.
As for why he had to be the one getting punctured, the reason was simple: Yang Yi didn’t know how to perform the procedure himself. If he messed it up, things could go very wrong.
"Go easy, will you?"
Yang Yi was visibly tense, unease creeping into his voice.
He could face down a blade at his throat without flinching, but this kind of medical procedure made him inexplicably anxious.
"Relax. When I was practicing injections during my internship, the patients always complimented me!"
"Complimented you on what?"
"On being pretty!"
Yang Yi’s heart skipped a beat, he suddenly wanted to bolt.
Internship…?
"You’re not seriously doing this for the first time, are you?"
"Don’t worry. I had top grades, and I’m a hands-on learner!"
"You-"
Before Yang Yi could finish, Suna had already plunged the needle in. A sharp, bone-deep pain shot up his spine, tracing his nerves like ice.
His whole body tensed, goosebumps rising instantly, he didn’t dare move a muscle.
Thankfully, it was over quickly within thirty seconds.
Because of Yang Yi’s exceptional physique, being a werewolf and all, the volume was doubled.
But it was still within safe limits. Suna had no intention of actually hurting him.
Though she had been a little sneaky, Yang Yi’s cerebrospinal fluid was the ideal material for her experiment, and she also needed some of his wolf hair as a catalyst.
"Half an hour of lying face-down should be enough. The wound has stopped bleeding and is already starting to heal," Suna said after checking the puncture site on his back.
Even so, Yang Yi drank a bottle of regenerative magic potion, just in case.
And so, he lay there like a plank for thirty minutes before finally getting up. As he left, he silently swore to himself: from now on, he’d avoid the lab as much as possible, especially when Suna was calling for him. He’d need to stay sharp.
But if this led to a potion that could restore magic essence… That would be incredible.
Yang Yi’s combat power would get a massive boost!
For example, if he used Limb Enhancement magic to strengthen all four limbs, his Strength stat would instantly rise by 3 points, post-transcendence points, no less, which could multiply his overall combat ability several times over!
