Greatest Legacy of the Magus Universe-Chapter 864: Lost and Found
Chapter 864: Lost and Found
"Damn it, are we lost?!" Chris spoke in exasperation.
He and Kahn had been trying to get to the backyard of the estate for the last fifteen minutes.
But navigating the vast manor crowded with so many guests turned out to be no easy task. And this was them after asking for directions multiple times.
Kahn ran a hand through his long blond hair, appearing unfazed by the whole situation, but the flicker of annoyance in his gray eyes gave him away.
He turned to Chris and spoke coolly, "Don’t you excel in the School of Divination? Why don’t you... you know, divine the way to the backyard."
Chris turned to look at the youth with an incredulous face. "Divine the way to the backyard? Do you hear yourself talking? You want me to use magic for such a menial chore?"
Kahn stepped forward, looking straight at the young man’s deep blue eyes, and ridiculed, "Then how are we going to make it out of this manor? Don’t you have any shame getting lost as a Magus who is proficient at divination?"
Chris gasped, unable to believe his ears. "Are you being serious? You’re going to put the blame on me now?!"
While the two were engaged in a heated, albeit pointless, quarrel, they drew the attention of a young man wearing fine silk robes. He had a head full of dark-brown hair and eyes of matching color.
He, too, was aimlessly wandering through the manor, trying to find people his age to have a nice chat with. It was getting rather dull on his own, and he had already gotten separated from his classmates, who had accompanied him.
However, unlike Kahn and Chris, this young man carried a plate filled with food. Lost or not, he seemed thoroughly content, savoring the freshly cooked dishes without a care in the world.
His gaze suddenly landed on a familiar person whom he attended Coral Cove with.
The youth’s eyes lit up. "Kahn, there you are!"
He quickly walked up to him. Before he spoke to his friend, he cast a curious glance at Chris, wondering who this person was who had been arguing with his classmate.
"Where have you been?" asked the brown-eyed youth. "I’ve been searching for you for a while now."
"Charlie, do you know the way to the backyard?" Kahn turned to his friend and got straight to the point.
"Why the backyard?" Charlie asked curiously, popping a piece of grilled chicken into his mouth.
"We saw a few students from Saratoga and Daybreak head to the backyard," said Khan in a solemn voice.
"Professor Morgan asked me to go have a chat with them, but I think what he meant by that was to try to find clues about the first trial from the Saratoga bunch. I’m sure they must know something."
"Right, that makes sense!" Charlie nodded in understanding. "Let’s go there then."
Kahn’s expression went blank. He exchanged an awkward glance with Chris, neither of them knowing what to say.
"Ahem!" Chris cleared his throat. "Yes, let’s go there. How about you lead the way?"
"Sure thing." Charlie shrugged casually. Then, he took the lead, guiding the pair as he continued to enjoy the food.
After several minutes, Kahn and Chris felt something was wrong.
Kahn couldn’t help but step forward and ask Charlie in a slightly dazed manner, "You do know the way, right?"
Charlie looked at him and spoke matter-of-factly, "Of course... not."
Hearing those words, Chris started to massage his forehead in exasperation.
These bastards from Coral Cove are crazy!
Meanwhile, Kahn’s lips twitched incessantly. "If you don’t know the way, then where were you guiding us?"
"Isn’t it obvious?" Charlie’s brows knitted together. "I would have just asked one of the maids and servants to lead us there."
Chris rolled his eyes. "You think we haven’t tried that already? These folks are worked to the bone. With so many guests around, no one’s got time to lead us all the way to the backyard."
Hearing that explanation, Charlie couldn’t help but sigh in disappointment. "That’s a bit of an oversight on the host’s part, if you ask me."
"Chris!"
Right at that moment, a familiar voice drifted into the blond youth’s ears. Chris turned to the source of the voice and found a familiar face.
It was a clean-shaven, brown-haired youth with blue eyes. He was draped in black and purple garments and was waving in their direction.
"Mikar!" Chris hurriedly walked toward him, as if he were a traveller lost in the desert who had finally found a source of water.
He arrived before Mikar and grasped his shoulders. "Tell me! Tell me you know the way to the backyard!"
Mikar was startled by his fellow classmate’s strange reaction. "Y-yeah, I do." He paused for a moment before asking with an arched eyebrow. "What’s wrong with you? Are you drunk again?"
"No, I’m not drunk." Chris rolled his eyes. "Anyway, take us to the backyard. I heard Saratoga’s students were out there somewhere."
"Oh, yes, they are." Mikar nodded in agreement, before curiously asking, "By the way, who’s ’us’?"
Chris pointed at the two young men who had arrived beside him. "Kahn and Charlie."
He then turned to the pair from Coral Cove and introduced his classmate, "You guys, this is my friend, Mikar."
"Oh, friends from Coral Cove!" Mikar extended his hand for a handshake. "It’s a pleasure to meet you. I’m Mikar Atkins, a Mana Liquefaction Magus from Greenfield Ridge."
"Charlie Smith, Coral Cove." Charlie offered a polite smile as he shook the youth’s hand.
"Kahn."
"Just Kahn?" Mikar asked curiously as he shook the blond youth’s hand.
"Just Kahn." The youth nodded.
On the side, Chris sneered inwardly.
Heh, look at him trying to act all cool. I’m pretty sure he has a surname, but it isn’t as cool as his first name.
Hmm... come to think of it, Kahn is indeed quite a catchy name, he mused.
After the students from Coral Cove and Greenfield Ridge had gotten to know one another, Mikar took the lead and guided them to the backyard with great familiarity.
Unlike the other three, Mikar seemed to know the way.
"By the way, you confirmed there were Saratoga’s students in the backyard." Chris asked curiously, "Did you happen to see them?"
"See them?" Mikar smirked. "Heh, I even met them. And guess what?"
"What?"
"Those three claimed to be the Dark King’s students."
