Chapter 617: Winner Winner, Chicken Dinner IV
“… Oh,” Jason gasped, the image slowly beginning to appear in his head.
“They want me on a free transfer?” He asked in surprise.
“Exactly,” Adele replied.
“Since it’s almost a hundred percent sure that you will not be signing a new contract with Oporto, they don’t have anything to fear and could literally wait for your contract to run out before trying to sign you,”
“It’s a big win situation for them as they wouldn’t have to pay any transfer fees that could be about a hundred million. All they’ll have to do is to compete with other clubs for your signature, and from their point of view, it’s a big win for you too,”
“The problem is you and Oporto,”
“The relationship between you and the Oporto management is damaged beyond repair, and staying there for another six months would almost definitely stall your career as they will not release you from your contract since they want to make a profit from a transfer fee for you. You’re literally their golden egg,”
“Also, it is very likely that you wouldn’t be registered for the squad for the next season, which means another loan out is your only option till your contract runs out,” Adele explained.
“… ” Jason went silent as he tried to think about the implications of the matter at hand.
“What about Uventus? There’s a clause that will allow them to purchase me at the end of the current loan transfer, right?” he asked Adele.
“Well, I’ve asked about and it seems like they plan to let your contract run out as well, both the loan contract and your contract with Oporto. They don’t seem to have any plan to spend money on you in the coming transfer window,”
“They’re also planning a swoop for you after your contract with Oporto ends, and they seem to think that they will have the upper hand as you’re already playing with them now and have experience here,” Adele replied.
“… That’s annoying,” Jason muttered and sat back, deep in thought.
Staying at Oporto for another six months was a no-no for him, even if he would be allowed to play.
On the other hand, going out on another loan would be annoying and would make him seem like an unwanted player, not to mention that due to his contract with Oporto he would be stuck collecting a measly 14k Euros per week which was in no way actually a small amount of money, but compared to his services and the kind of star value he was worth, that was more than severely underpaid.
Since he had been at Uventus, he had somehow sold almost 5 million Euros worth of shirts in less than four months, but he hadn’t been paid 200k in wages since his arrival.
Going to another club on loan would just allow them to profit off him while giving him scraps thanks to his contract, but unfortunately, he couldn’t even ask for another contract as that would come with more commitment to Oporto which was the one thing he didn’t want.
“What about going on loan to a club that you will later sign a permanent transfer for? That could work for you, right?” Adele asked, somehow knowing exactly what he was thinking about.
“It can work… I just don’t like it,” Jason answered honestly.
He knew that this thing was just business and he was the unfortunate one who was caught in the cog, but he didn’t want to join a club that would rather pay him less than what he deserved for six more months just because they wanted to avoid paying for his transfer and wanted to enjoy the benefits of his services for a severely discounted price. Ř𝘈ꞐÓ𝐛ÊS̩
Some would call it a petty or stupid line of thought, but after what he went through with Oporto, he believed he deserved to be at least this wilful.
If a club could choose to exploit him when they would obviously make back whatever they spent if they were willing to pay for a permanent transfer, then what was to stop them from doing worse things in the future as long as it saved them a little more money?
Oporto was a very clear example, and Jason didn’t want another such rodeo.
That was making this a very hard place to be in and he didn’t know what he was supposed to do now.
“Ugh, maybe I’m just overthinking it,” Jason groaned, massaging his forehead.
“What about coming back to Uventus on loan for the remaining six months?” he asked.
“Wouldn’t work. Oporto couldn’t reject your choice to go for a loan the last time, but that could only happen once. Now, they can do whatever they want regarding a transfer for you,”
“The only thing stopping them from selling you now is whether you sign for whichever offer they accept or not… and right now the only thing they will be accepting for you is transfer offers,” Adele replied, shattering Jason’s latest idea.
“So I can only wait and watch while hoping a team will be dumb enough to make a transfer offer for me now when they can wait to get me for free a few months later, saving themselves a huge amount of money,”
“And it’s either that happens or I might be potentially sidelined for six months?” Jason laid bare his thoughts.
“Or you can somehow manage to make Oporto agree to a mutual termination of your contract,” Adele added.
“And what are the chances of that?” Jason asked, not having much hope as he already knew the chances were low.
“Less than one percent. Like I said, you’re their golden egg… or one of them, the biggest one,”
“And there has not been any breach in contract on both sides, which means there are no grounds for a contract termination, so there’s no way in hell they would ever consider letting you go on a free transfer,” Adele sighed.
“I wouldn’t do it if I were them,” She added truthfully.

“Fu*kin piece of paper,” Jason cursed in a low tone, annoyed.
“Can’t I just act like an a** and get them to breach the contract?” Jason tried another angle.
“Not unless you want to damage your stock. I wouldn’t advise it,” Adele countered.
“So there’s nothing I can do?” Jason asked again.
“… Actually,” Adele broke out in a grin.
