Chapter 81: Her Purpose

Adam stared at Clara for a quiet moment, watching the way her fingers flexed over the handle of her reanimated eye socket, how her gaze drifted but never lost its eerie clarity.

"I see now."

He muttered, his arms crossed.

"So Clara du Moreau ha? It’s a nice name, although your knight title, hehe, is truly a scary one. You must have been quite the character to get a name like that."

"They bestowed that name upon me for the number of souls I felled upon the battlefield. With each clash of arms, I left behind more corpses than in the last. My family’s lands lie within the village of Wintergold, and our crest bears the white lily. Thus, in time, they came to call me The Blood Lily of Wintergold, a name born from my merciless behavior towards those of enemy land."

Said Clara in a flat tone.

On the other hand, Adam gave her a low whistle, then commented.

"Still cooler than Cecil, in my opinion...but that bastard over there can thank me I gave him a proper name, now he is know as sunny the vampire."

He said out loud, and moments after, more voices came into his head.

But that was short-lived because in the next instant, Clara held her head as she recalled some more memories.

"I...I remember that name...

She murmured.

"It feels like it belonged to someone else. Yet... it stirs something in me."

She announced as she shut her eyes briefly.

"Hmmm, I was a peasant vampire, I remember being turned by that whore...she turned me into her slave, but through sheer luck she died, as a result I was set free... I also remember being good at gambling and also being a serious alcoholic."

Clara announced.

On that note, however, she opened her eyes again, saying.

"I was trained by other peasants, taught how to act like a proper vampire. Who to bow to, who to manipulate. I learned a lot... new skills, new powers. I even tasted luxuries most humans couldn’t begin to imagine. But compared to the nobles? My richest days wouldn’t even cover the pocket change those spoiled brats call an allowance."

"Eventually, I sired a human of my own. Got bored of her... then killed her. But for most of my existence, I’ve worked as a mercenary, first and foremost. I used to curse this undead life, hated what I’d become. But over time... I grew to love it. And now? I wouldn’t give it up for anything."

Memories upon memories flowed through Clara, revealing small fragments of his life, but they were not enough to overwrite her mind.

As emotionless and dead as she felt inside, she was still Clara du Moreau, the Bloody Lily of Wintergold, and that would not change.

"C’est étrange... these memories, they are not from the life I recall as Clara, yet I follow them without protest. Compared to when I was humaine, I feel... how do you say... greatly sharpened. My skills, my senses, they are all far beyond what they once were. Simply by being a vampire, I have become something... more."

Clara said, her French accent very strong, as she talks between both French and English.

Adam, on the other hand, gave her a rather curious look as he said.

"Seeing two memories of two lives at once ha? A weird feeling, I would guess, but that’s fine. You don’t need to worry about your current life as that man over there. That life? It’s in the ironically speaking seeing yur the former, and he is the latter, but given the current situation his existence is in the past now, dont worry about him, he is just prisoner of war."

Said Adam as he eyes down Cecil.

"GHRAAAAA...

The head made a growling sound as it struggled to protest with a rock still deeply lodged in his throat.

But setting that aside, Adam stepped over to the bleeding head. Without hesitation, he tore a strip from the clothes Cecil wore and unfastened the crimson belt from his cloak.

With practiced ease, he fashioned a makeshift holster, then tied Cecil’s head to his waist like it was just another tool in his arsenal. Convenient. Accessible. As if it were a weapon he could draw whenever he pleased.

"There, that should do it, I need to deliver him to Minerva; let’s hope he knows something about what is going on here."

Said Adam. On that note, however, Clara walked up to him and asked.

"If you do not mind me asking... what now? I understand you summoned me here, gave me this new life... but for what purpose, truly? What is the reason for my existence in this world again? I-I would very much like to know... if that is not asking too much, monsieur."

Adam looked back at Clara in this moment.

From there, he grinned and stepped closer, feathers stirring faintly around his boots as he said, getting right to the point in this moment.

"As a summon, your job is to assist your master, of course. And normally, I wouldn’t know anything about your past, right? But, based on your story so far, you’re nobility. French, by your voice. And a knight as well, so that is a plus for me on my end."

Clara remained silent, her posture stiff and formal as she listened closely to Adam.

Adam then shrugged and ended his reply with.

"Which works perfectly for me. I was hoping to get a fighter out of this spell of mine. Turns out, I got a damn knight, so lady luck is truly on my side indeed."

"In layman’s terms, I really do appreciate your usefulness here."

Adam bluntly admits in a casual voice, on the other hand.

A flicker passed through Clara’s eyes the moment her purpose was stated. Then, slowly, she sank to one knee, head bowed slightly; in this moment, it was like the king himself was holding a flamberge that was held upright before her like a ceremonial offering.

Although that was not the case, Adam’s words would have to be the closest thing to it in this particular moment.

"I do not know why."

Clara said quietly as it was flat.

"But I cannot deny your words... nor can I resist you. It is not fear, nor any enchantement... Non, it is something deep within me... Ahh. au fond de moi... it tell’s me that in this life, your words is all that truly matters. How strange, mon Dieu... It reminds me of the days I served the king, yes the days when I was known as being his bloodiest sword." fɾeeweɓnѳveɭ.com

"...I see now. So that is my purpose, right? Then, do you wish to be my king, maître?"
