Heiress' Househusband is a Secret Billionaire-Chapter 315: Snowball
Chapter 315: Snowball
Nathaniel, Elsie and Lorianne regrouped with the Faulkner and Winslow spouses under the crisp late-autumn sky. Then, they moved together to the main barn, where a bell echoed faintly in the distance.
The scent of damp soil and hay lingered in the air, mixed with faint traces of smoke from a distant wood stove. Towering trees surrounded the fields, glowing in brilliant hues of autumn.
Along the way, the energetic Lorianne began singing while swinging Nathaniel’s hand.
"Five little ducks went swimming one day🎶"
"Over the hills and far away🎶"
"Mother Duck Said Quack Quack Quack Quack!🎶"
"But only four little ducks came back!🎶"
Certainly, the little one’s antics caught her grandparents’ praise and adoration. She giggled and her cheeks blushed in the pink color when the elders kept complimenting her.
Nathaniel and Elsie just let them be, understanding full well Lorianne was the apple of their eyes. After all, she was the first grandchild on both sides of the family.
At the barn, they met different groups of guests, some stayed the night at the resorts while the others were day visitors. The staff members were so helpful as they assisted the visitors to get the most out of their experience.
"Lorrie, dear, wanna feed the bunnies?" Diane chirped while gesturing in a direction.
"Yes! Let’s go!"
Lorianne quickly followed her four grandparents, leaving Nathaniel and Elsie behind. The pair of lovers chuckled, then trailed after their excited daughter.
The staff explained and demonstrated how to feed the bunnies. Lorianne joined the other children, all exhilarated while holding carrot sticks, leafy greens and hay. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm
Russell and Leonard couldn’t stop themselves from recording Lorianne’s little adventure with the bunnies. Diane and Andrea stayed close to the little one while telling her to feed and gently pat them.
"Mommy, Daddy," Lorianne purposely lowered her voice, "I fed a bunny, did you see that?"
Laughing, Elsie opened her arms to hug Lorianne, "You did? That’s so great of you, my dear."
"The bunny is so warm and soft," Lorianne half-squealed, emphasizing by pressing her fingertips together, "And it has teenie tiny paws!"
"Did you name it?" Nathaniel asked, amused by Lorianne’s story. He adjusted the little one’s collar as she leaned against him.
"Snowball, Daddy," Lorianne replied proudly, "Hehe, but its color isn’t white."
Russell chuckled as he approached his granddaughter, "Sounds like a good name to me. Snowball is it, then."
After feeding the bunnies, Lorianne played with the flock of sheep and horses. Then, a ranch guide wearing a straw hat waved at them, a beaming smile carved on his weathered face.
"Alright, folks," he said warmly, "Are you ready for some hands-on farming? We got a patch of late-season veggies. They still need harvesting before winter. You can pick your lunch today."
"Pick our own lunch?" Leonard grinned, "You don’t hear that every day."
Soon, the family scattered into the vegetable patch while bringing some baskets, given by the guide. Andrea and Diane stood between neat rows of chard and kale. She snipped the leaves with precision.
"This reminds me of my old mother’s garden," Diane said, lifting a bunch of rainbow chard, "She used to say fresh food could be the best medicine."
"She’s right," Andrea hummed, agreeing with Diane as she admired the chard’s color, "We can get the best nutrients from them."
At the same time, Elsie was picking some sweet carrots. Brushing the dirt from some of them, she called, "Lorrie, wanna pull one up?"
"Yes!"
Lorianne ran over, leaving Nathaniel at the potato patch. She yanked at the green top of a carrot, huffing and nearly toppling over backward when it popped free from the ground.
"I did it!"
Everyone clapped, entertained by the little one’s antics.
"Such a strong girl," Leonard said with a wink. He joined Russell and Nathaniel in digging the potato patch, laughing like old friends every time one of them unearthed a good one.
"Oh! This one looks like a heart," Russell exclaimed, holding up a lumpy potato.
"Dad, give that to Mom," Nathaniel teased, nudging Russell’s elbow, "Looks so symbolic."
Hearing what her son said, Andrea raised her brows playfully, "How romantic. But tell your dad to roast it first."
Once again, laughter filled the vegetable patch.
Once their baskets were full, the guide led them to an outdoor cooking pavilion. Wooden tables and benches stood under a canopy of grapevines, some leaves already turned golden.
A few guests occupied the tables, also bringing along their baskets. There, the staff members helped wash and prep the vegetables while a smiling ranch cook operated before the stove.
Everyone sat around a table, accompanied by some hot cider and tea. Lorianne couldn’t keep her eyes away from watching the cook and his helpers. She almost drooled from how delicious the scents of food were.
"Whoa... Smells so good," Lorianne sang, "I can’t wait to eat!"
The little one’s wish came true soon.
The staff served sauteed kale and garlic in olive oil, roasted carrots and potatoes with rosemary and fresh herb butter to spread on warm rolls. The centerpiece was a pot of chicken stew, rich with the scent of bay leaves and thyme.
Nathaniel and Elsie made sure Lorianne and their parents had their servings first before focusing on themselves. Everyone was tired and hungry from the previous activities.
"This is great," Andrea said after taking a spoonful of stew. Without waiting much, she had another bite.
"Tastes better knowing we picked it ourselves," Leonard agreed, almost having the stew.
Sitting between Nathaniel and Elsie, Lorianne nibbled on a butter carrot. She declared, "My bunny would surely love this. It’s so yummy!"
"My dear, your Snowball has eaten a lot today," Nathaniel said, teasing the little one.
As the sun settled on its peak, the family enjoyed the hot meals while talking about the food, gardening and memories of their particular homes.
Needless to say, it was evident how closer the Faulkners and the Winslows had gotten, much to Nathaniel and Elsie’s relief.
As the elders watched Lorianne show a tick while nibbling the carrot, Nathaniel and Elsie held hands under the table, exchanging soft, knowing smiles.
This was exactly how they imagined their big family was. Full of warmth, respect and affection.
