Holy Necromancer: Rebirth of the Strongest Mage-Chapter 1113: Accepting the invitation
Karyk's eyes were filled with uncertainty. He could see the memories of Chronos, and even the Time Lord's reaction to those memories. But still, the idea of joining felt completely foreign.
The Aether that he was looking for had been with him all this time? He was the Aether itself, the one that the entire world wanted?
He couldn't remember a single memory from his time before being born as a human, so everything that he saw felt completely unfamiliar, as if he was looking at someone else's life.
He didn't have any good feelings towards the man that had helped the Aether grow. Even though the Aether in the memories had gone completely crazy after that man's death, he didn't feel any such extreme hatred.
He wasn't certain if it was because his present life had rewritten his previous instincts, or if so much time had passed that the instincts naturally died down. The only thing that he was certain about was that this wasn't good news for him.
At first, he had thought that he could find the Aether that everyone wanted and use it to his advantage. But all his hopes had come crashing down with the revelation.
It was as if he had opened a box that was said to hold a world-destroying treasure, and on opening it, all he found was a mirror reflecting himself. He even wondered if there was a point of going so far to find the Aether.
Almost all major forces of this universe wanted to take him down because he was the great calamity. Now he had another target on his back out of nowhere. The only good thing for him was that he had managed to take a completely new identity that held a lot of power.
He had embraced the identity of Chronos, which gave him access to something that was maybe even more important to him than finding the so-called Aether.
He had access to the Time Lord, his so-called father. He also had the authority to command the time lord's force and wait for an opportunity.
The only thing he had to ensure was to not get caught, and he had already analyzed all of Chronos's memories for that purpose alone.
With a complete transformation, he had completely erased his old presence. Or rather, he had suppressed it beneath Chronos' bloodline to make it silent.
He quickly got down from the bed, having spent a lot of time in the room. He stepped out of the room, and asked the guard, "Is Father still not back?"
"He hasn't returned yet. But he did send a message, to be delivered to you." The guard handed over a letter to Karyk.
Karyk opened the letter, and a holograph materialized before him, depicting the Time Lord.
"The discussions and arrangements might take a long time. Don't worry about me. I should be back in a month. Until then, you are to handle everything back home."
"Don't cause too much trouble, but if someone causes trouble for you, then don't forget that you are my son. I am certain that you understand what I meant."
The Time Lord didn't leave many words, only granting the complete authority of this place to Karyk, the so-called son who had returned after such a long time.
With the message ending, Karyk folded the letter back and kept that in his pocket. Things were going more smoothly than he had expected. He didn't even have to pretend before the Time Lord since he wasn't going to return.
"He must be planning about breaking the protection of the Aetherian Realm with other Ancient Lords. Just as I thought, it's not easy to break it, even for them. The man who created the barrier was not half bad."
He turned to the guard, who appeared like he wanted to say something. "Is there anything you want to say to me?"
"There are more letters for you." The guard waved his hand, and hundreds of letters materialized before them, falling on the ground.
"These are...?"
"They are the letters from the other major families that invited you as a guest. There is one letter that is from the Royal Family as well. I wanted to consult the Lord about this, but after receiving that letter from him, it's been impossible to connect with him."
"Shall I reject the invitations?" The Guard asked, almost expecting an answer along those lines. Even though Chronos hadn't been with them for a long time, he had a rough understanding of the man who was not really into mingling with others.
Karyk didn't answer right away and picked up a letter that was on the top, standing out from the rest.
"That's from the Royal Family. They seem to be inviting you for the coming of age ceremony of the prince. They had been trying to approach the Lord, but he never paid attention to them. Eventually they stopped trying. But it looks like your appearance has reignited their hopes."
"Isn't the Emperor as strong as my father? His influence might be higher as well, since he rules over all territories that don't belong to Ancient Lords like my father? Why would he want to approach my father?"
Karyk slowly opened the letter, quite intrigued as there was no such information in Chronos' memories who had lived most of his life away from his family.
"He probably wants to use your father's influence for something, maybe to attract other Ancient Lords to make his throne more stable? That's just my guess though. It's better for you to ignore the invitation. I will write a proper rejection."
The Guard reached out his hand to take the letter back.
Karyk returned the letter, but as the guard was about to leave, he heard the young man's voice, "Tell them that I accept the invitation."
"What?" The guard looked back in disbelief.
"I said I will go to the Royal Capital. Make preparations. Oh, and you don't have to arrange a gift for the prince. I'll arrange something myself."
