Horrific Shorts: Zombie Edition-Chapter 573: Story : The Cemetery Reawakening
The chilling fog hung low over the ancient cemetery, its thick tendrils wrapping around forgotten tombstones and casting ghostly shadows in the moonlight. The ZETU team had arrived on a tip from local survivors—reports of eerie movements among the graves and faint, unearthly groans carried on the night breeze.
"This place screams trouble," Sergeant Jenna "Blaze" Hart muttered, gripping an incendiary grenade tightly.
"I've seen worse," Captain Marcus Kane replied, though his eyes betrayed his unease. "Stay sharp. If the intel's right, this isn't just any outbreak—something's waking the dead, and we're here to shut it down."

Ethan "Brain" O'Connor, monitoring drone footage from the team's mobile van, spoke over comms. "Captain, I'm picking up unusual heat signatures below ground. It's like something's tunneling beneath the cemetery."
Marcus turned to Lila "Huntress" Navarro. "Thoughts?"
"It's not zombies," she said, her voice steady. "This is necromantic activity. Someone—or something—is pulling these corpses from their rest. We need to find the source."
A sudden scraping noise interrupted their discussion. From a nearby grave, skeletal fingers emerged, clawing at the dirt. The team froze as, one by one, skeletons began rising from their graves, their hollow eyes glowing with an unnatural blue light.
"Open fire!" Marcus ordered, his shotgun roaring to life. The sound of gunfire echoed through the cemetery as the team unloaded into the advancing undead.
"Bullets aren't doing much!" Riley "Quick Shot" Bennett yelled from her perch atop a mausoleum. "They're too brittle—they just keep coming!"
"Switch to incendiaries!" Marcus shouted.
Blaze wasted no time. She hurled an incendiary grenade into the thickest part of the horde, engulfing the skeletons in roaring flames. The bones cracked and shattered, but more skeletons emerged to take their place.
"This isn't working," Derek "Shield" Coleman growled, smashing through a skeleton with his riot shield. "We're going to get overwhelmed."
"We need to find the source!" Marcus barked. "Brain, guide us!"
"Northwest corner," Brain replied. "There's a crypt emitting a massive energy signature. That's got to be it."
The team pushed through the skeletal horde, Shield leading the way with his reinforced riot gear. Inside the crypt, the air was thick with a foul, sulfurous stench. At the center of the chamber stood a glowing, runic altar, surrounded by swirling, malevolent energy.
"That's it," Huntress said, her voice low. "Destroy the altar, and this stops."
Blaze approached the altar, planting a charge while the others defended the entrance. Skeletons began pouring into the crypt, clawing at the team.
"Quick Shot, we need cover!" Marcus yelled.
From her perch, Riley fired a well-placed explosive round into the horde outside, collapsing the entrance and buying the team precious seconds.
"Charge is set!" Blaze shouted.
"Fall back!" Marcus ordered.
The team retreated as Blaze detonated the charge. The crypt erupted in a fiery explosion, the runic energy dissipating with a haunting wail. Outside, the skeletons crumbled into lifeless piles of bone.
"Another day, another nightmare," Marcus said, his voice heavy with exhaustion. "Let's regroup. Something tells me this isn't over."
