House of The Dragon-A God Amongst Men-Chapter 161: Maegelle and The Ladies Drakkengard II
Chapter 161 - Maegelle and The Ladies Drakkengard II
(Drakken's POV)
I stood in front of the Dark Shade, feeling a strange fluctuation of power emanating from it. It was a couple of days after I had returned to Harrenhal, and I decided to come and check on it.
"Hm..." I said as I tilted my head, "Interesting...."
Mya stood next to me, "What is it?"
I walked up to the nearest tree, "Something is wrong." I said as I placed my hand on the tree, "The power....it's not supposed to fluctuate this way...."
"Is that bad?" She said, "Is there a risk to it?"
"Not necessarily...." I said as I frowned and stepped back, "There must have been something that caused the Dark Shade to lose equilibrium....my guess is both Ammaria and Grayle drawing power at the same time. My calculation was off, perhaps doing that was not ideal. Not now...."
I looked at her, she was walking up to me, "But is the Shade in itself....vulnerable?" She asked, "We should increase the security.....The Guardian is active, at the very least."
"I do not think the physical aspects of the Shade are in danger." I said, "My only worry is what it could cost.....some sort of.....disarray with the Beasts...they draw power from it. Lyssa is slumbering; she has not been creating more gold as of late, but that is no problem. Ammaria is in the Stormlands, and this one has been here."
"I see...." She said
"This is what I get for relying on Blood Sorcery." I said with a scowl, "If I had used my Calamity, I would not have this issue. Too fucking bad, we'll stick with Blood Sacrifices. I have no choice....I can't just start over. The Greenseer's Plane is too powerful to just.....rip everything apart and stitch back together. It'll take too long....."
"Is there a way to fix it?" Mya asked
"Yes." I said, "I just need more Greenseers. Go and find some more, I heard they ran off to the North. Bring them here, I will amplify their Greensight and fuse them to the Shade, that will patch up this issue and-"
I noticed something about her. I reached for her arm and raised it to my eye-level, seeing that her arm was paler than usual.
"What is it?" She frowned
I moved the top of her dress to the side, seeing that her Mark on the collarbone, was slightly faded.
I narrowed my eyes, "This is some bullshit...." I muttered, "This is exactly what I get for relying on Blood Sorcery."
"What is it?" She asked
"Your Mark." I said, "The Mark of Immortality that I bestowed on you, Daranne, and Maegelle. It appears that this error causes the Shade to siphon power from the easiest source of Me."
She placed her hand on her mark, "Our Mark....."
"Listen closely." I said seriously, "Until I resolve this issue, I do not want any of you three to get near this place. Do you understand? Do you???"
She nodded, "Yes, My Lord." She said softly, "I give you my word."
I patted her cheek, "Good." I said, "The last thing I want is accidents, Mya."
She smiled, "You do care about us."
"Shut up." I said as I let go of her and walked past her, "Let's go. We have work to do."
"Oh?" She said, "What kind of work? Grayle is not complete yet he proved to be quite powerful, do you intend to finish him?"
"He'll complete himself." I said, "It's what he does. I am to focus on the other one."
"Talis....." Mya said softly
"Yes." I said, "That one is much fiercer than Grayle...and that is saying something."
"Speaking of....." She said, "Will he also require the Cannibal and Balerion's blood?"
I nodded, "Yes." I told her, "Cannibal.....that thing has served me well...."
"Shame I only keep him for Dragon Hearts."

[Harrenhal]
"So...." Daranne told Maegelle who was holding Sylas in her lap, "Do you intend to....?"
Maegelle looked at her, "Pardon?"
"To give Lord Drakken a child?" Daranne asked, "Do you intend to do so?"
"Oh...." Maegelle said as she looked down, "I do not know...I...."
"To be taken by him is a wonderful experience." Daranne said with a slight blush, "And to carry the life of an extension of himself in you...it is something much more than you can understand."
Maegelle smiled, "I can imagine..." She said, "But....I do not know if I am ready....the thing is...when he made everyone think he was going to die...my true feelings were revealed....to myself..."
"I see." Daranne said, "And those are....?"
"I...." Maegelle looked down, "I love him...."
Daranne looked at her with surprise, "Oh." She said, "Is that so?"
"It is difficult for me to think of acting on those feelings." Maegelle said, "Think of it as my Morality holding me back. I.....do not agree with the killing....the destruction.....but for some reason, I have come to accept it...I accept him....."
"Accept him as the god he is....?" Daranne asked, "The whole reason he wanted you was to make you convert to the Trinity."
"No...." Maegelle said, "I accept him as the Man he is...a complicated and flawed individual who has his history....his reasons for being the way he is...."
"I see." Daranne said
"I know that my influence allowed him to be softer.....to be kinder....to you....to Mya....to his sons..." Maegelle continued, "And I am glad for it, I am overjoyed at the thought. The thought of this one not existing simply because Drakken would still be that coldhearted Monster that he is.....it pains me...."
She leaned down and kissed Sylas's head as she smiled, the boy simply looked up at her with a curious look.
"It appears that if it were not for you, House Drakkengard would not exist." Daranne said with a smile, "I believe that Lord Drakken would have walked the Realm as a Natural Disaster, destroying everything in his path and leaving nothing but ashes...."
"I know." Maegelle said softly
"But he has a plan." Daranne said, "I know it. He is everlasting, he does not even bother to even think about how many years he plans to wait to finally start his Great War."
"That Great War....." Maegelle said, "From the ashes of destruction, he wishes to rebuild the world and have us lead it...his and mine children....."
"I know he told you that." Daranne chuckled, "He considers Riktor and Sylas to be your boys too."
"In a way, I consider them mine." Maegelle said with a smile, "I care so much for them."
"The kindness you show them." Daranne said, "You will shape them to be Men different than their father. Which is good....but the two of them will be strong."
"Symbols of Strength."
