How I Tamed My Wolfish Husband Back in 80s-Chapter 102: Calling Someone_1
Chapter 102: Chapter 102: Calling Someone_1
Yu Feng hissed.
Qin Jin clenched her fist and watched with cold eyes as Peng Chunhua was frightened and left with her.
People crowded around the entrance of the Qin family, all there to gawk at the half-pound of pork Li Qiao had brought.
Li Qiao could hear their discussions from afar:
"My child has also studied for several years, and we haven’t even seen a pig’s hair, let alone pork. It’s maddening."
"Qiaoqiao got into a university and was given that reward. How many years has your child studied?"
"Qiaoqiao’s stepmother is actually quite good; she brought him up well. You’re really lucky, reaping the benefits from someone else’s hard work, not to mention the Cai family, who must be regretting it now."
Old Mrs. Qin frowned in half annoyance, "Don’t talk nonsense if you don’t know the truth."
Dong Lamei could grow into what?!
Look at her own daughter, what had she turned into?
The current granddaughter-in-law is not at all the same as the one who married into the family.
She had sensed something suspicious long ago.
Her husband used to study abroad, speaking fluent English.
It had the same intonation as her granddaughter-in-law’s.
Dong Lamei could have raised that?
The granddaughter-in-law could paint, do delicate handicrafts, was smart and understanding, never acting conceited or looking down on her grandson.
The girl who first entered the family had been incredibly arrogant, not even showing basic courtesy towards an old lady.
Also, a while ago, the child inexplicably said she missed home. Old Mrs. Qin found it odd, for the home was close by—why not just go there if she wanted to?
When she cried mourning her misrecognized grandson, Li Shengcai and Dong Lamei came to make trouble, and her granddaughter-in-law directly clarified that she was not their daughter.
She knew her child’s temperament best, never would she say such unfilial words, even in anger.
Putting all this together, and remembering the dreams where her son and daughter-in-law were pleased with their daughter-in-law,
She made a bold guess.
The one they were pleased with was the current daughter-in-law; the one from before had long since been gone.
If she were to be grateful, she should thank her current granddaughter-in-law’s parents for raising such a good child to benefit the Qin family.
Qin Jin’s face tightened, "What the hell does it have to do with the Cai family?!"
Damn it!
Lately, there had been village gossip about his wife and Cai Hechuan again, some even grotesquely detailing what they were supposedly doing in the grass stacks by the village entrance, as if they had seen it with their own eyes.
He had already told his brothers, next time someone spread rumors about his wife and the Cai surname, they didn’t need to report back to him, just punch and knock out that person’s teeth!
"I was just talking." The gossip hadn’t realized Qin Jin had returned and felt uneasy, fearing a punch from him, quickly making an excuse to leave.
Li Qiao’s peripheral vision followed the back of the woman who was close with Yu Feng on a regular basis.
She must have come just to stir up trouble.
Her good mood spoiled, she entered her room expressionlessly, with her school bag slung over her shoulder.
The old bed had been replaced by a new one, with the same length but a bit wider.
A new curtain had been added to the small window, and there was a new small wardrobe in the corner.
Upon opening the wardrobe door, she saw two shelves on the left and space for hanging clothes on the right.
Her clothes were neatly arranged on wooden hangers.
Clean shoes were placed on the bottom shelf.
The old trunk contained her winter cotton-padded jacket and trousers.
Had Qin Jin cleaned up?
The person who previously didn’t wash his feet before sleeping was now doing household chores with even more care than a woman.
Qin Jin dismissed the crowd with a few words, closed the front door, and said to Old Mrs. Qin, "Grandma, I want to eat braised pork."
"Fine, you cook it then. From now on, you’ll take care of all the household chores!"
Qin Jin: "..." Why? "Other people’s wives do these chores."
"Other people’s wives are elementary students, your wife’s a university student. In the future, she will be in charge of external affairs, and you will manage the household. You’ll take care of the babies she bears."
Qin Jin: "..."
Old Mrs. Qin prattled on, "I’ll stew the ribs tonight so we can eat our fill." She started soaking the seaweed to prepare for the evening’s stew and then called to Li Qiao, "Qiaoqiao, come here."
Li Qiao strode into Old Mrs. Qin’s room.
Old Mrs. Qin opened a wooden box and slipped a pair of bracelets onto her wrist.
Li Qiao turned her wrist; the outer layer was pink like peach blossoms, the surface smooth and lustrous, and the layer against her skin was inlaid with two millimeters of gold. "They’re so beautiful. Are they heirlooms?"
"Your grandfather gave these to me as a token of our engagement, said they were made of Coral Jade. Even when we fell on hard times, we never brought ourselves to sell them. Now, they are passed on to you."
Li Qiao felt the bracelet was too precious and special, "Grandpa gave this to me, I’m not sure I should take it."
"What’s wrong with accepting it? Later on, you can pass it on to your daughter-in-law, it’s a kind of continuation," Old Mrs. Qin stated without doubt.
Li Qiao touched the bracelet and smiled, "Since you say so, I’ll accept it. I’m just afraid of knocking or bumping it. Maybe you should keep it for now, and I’ll wear it when it’s needed."
"You keep it yourself."
Unable to withstand Old Mrs. Qin’s enthusiasm, Li Qiao promised to take good care of it. She wore the bracelet and showed it off to Qin Jin, "Look at this heirloom grandma gave me, isn’t it lovely?"
Qin Jin held her wrist and examined it, the tender bracelet made her skin look even fairer and delicate. "Beautiful! We’re good for tonight, right?"
Blushing, Li Qiao nodded, "Even a little later is fine."
In broad daylight?
Qin Jin became excited, his blood boiling.
"But I need to take a bath first," Li Qiao added.
"I guarantee I’ll scrub myself squeaky clean after dinner."
Li Qiao covered her face, speaking as if she were granting him an audience.
For dinner they made braised pork and fried a plate of peanuts.
Old Mrs. Qin took out a bottle of liquor, "We haven’t properly celebrated Qiaoqiao getting into college, today is the perfect opportunity."
Li Qiao prepared to drink a couple of glasses for courage.
Qin Jin wouldn’t allow her to drink. What if she got drunk? "It’s not proper for a young lady to drink."
"Grandma is drinking too, I’ll just have a little," she said.
Old Mrs. Qin supported Li Qiao, "Let Qiaoqiao drink, she’s not like you, without restraint."
Qin Jin could only pour Li Qiao a drink.
Li Qiao gulped it down and it was so spicy her throat hurt, not wanting to drink anymore, she finished her meal first and went to clean up and wait.
Using the excuse that Feng Kui and Feng Fugui had helped during Old Mrs. Qin’s mistaken mourning days, Qin Jin suggested Old Mrs. Qin should send a piece of meat to each household to send her away.
"It’s good to send some meat over," Old Mrs. Qin agreed.
Qin Jin waited for Old Mrs. Qin to leave and then immediately shut the door and washed up.
When he returned to the room, Li Qiao was asleep. He called her twice to no response and reached out, cautiously pinching her face.
Li Qiao slightly winced in pain and swatted his hand away, "Dad, dad, help... someone’s hitting your darling."
Her voice was sweet, soft, and helpless.
Qin Jin leaned in, "Dad? Who are you calling?"
In the city, that’s how people call their father.
Could she have been dreaming from being drunk?
Passed out after just one drink?
He gently massaged the skin he had pinched red, "You promised today, and yet you deceived me again." He stared at her face, her cheeks flushed, her eyelashes spread like a fan; she was truly beautiful! "Are you drunk? I came on my own!" He lifted the quilt and slipped inside.
Li Qiao was dazed, thinking she was dreaming.
Until she felt pain and became conscious.
She wanted to open her eyes but couldn’t lift her eyelids; her arms and legs felt floaty, as if they weren’t hers.
She didn’t know how much time passed.
She woke up to find it was dark outside, with a lamp on in the room.
Her body ached all over.
But her clothes were properly on.
No one else was in the room.
The air was tinged with the scent of disinfectant.
When she raised her hand, she noticed a white adhesive tape on the back of her hand.
Had someone given her an IV?
She was just about to call out for someone.
Qin Jin walked in through the door, excitedly saying, "You’re awake." He sat beside her with concern all over his face, "How do you feel?"
"My head hurts, my body hurts, feels like I’ve been beaten up."
"I definitely didn’t beat you up," Qin Jin scratched the tip of his nose, eyes glancing away.
Li Qiao: "With that expression, you look like you feel guilty for hitting me."
"It’s not exactly hitting, you were drunk..." He leaned close to her ear and detailed what he had done.
Li Qiao felt both embarrassed and angry; he had actually taken advantage of her unconsciousness from drinking. No, she had been conscious but thought she was dreaming. No wonder she felt so uncomfortable; he had succeeded. "Why did you put up an IV?"
