How to Have a Baby Secretly-Chapter 43
As Sunwoo and Kang Jinwook sat across from each other at the table in the yard, they each picked up an ear of corn and began eating without a word.
Throughout it, Sunwoo kept glancing at Kang Jinwook. He hadn’t expected him to actually eat the corn, but to his surprise, Kang Jinwook ate it without saying anything.
Soon, Kang Jinwook finished his first ear and grabbed another. Sunwoo noticed they were only eating corn—nothing else.
"Uh, should I bring some water or something?"
Sunwoo, who hadn’t thought of it until now, hesitated to speak. It felt strange, like something wasn’t quite right. It wasn’t like he had never eaten with someone else before.
"No, it’s fine. I’ll get it."
Kang Jinwook stood as if to stop him.
"No, no. Sit down. I’ll go," Sunwoo replied, flustered, and quickly stood up.
He went inside the house and poured water from a bottle. Since he hadn’t chilled it, it was lukewarm. After a moment of hesitation, he grabbed a few ice cubes from the freezer—something he’d kept in stock for the peach iced tea he’d been making at home recently.
Thinking for a second, Sunwoo grabbed the peaches he had placed on the shelf and went back outside. By the time he returned, Kang Jinwook had finished the second ear of corn.
Sunwoo couldn’t help but think that this scene—Kang Jinwook eating corn—was like a dramatic meeting of the city and countryside. It made him chuckle to himself.
"You still like peaches."
"Huh?"
Sunwoo flinched when he placed the peaches on the table. He’d been thinking about Kang Jinwook just now, so he was caught off guard.
"You always liked peaches. Back in school, when they served snacks, you’d take a few extra."
"Uh, uh... really? I don’t remember..."
Sunwoo awkwardly laughed, and Kang Jinwook nodded casually, as if remembering.
"Yeah, you said you didn’t remember."
That’s right. Sunwoo couldn’t remember, but it was strange—his tastes seemed to match with the old Sunwoo from before.
He placed the glass of water in front of Kang Jinwook and, once again, awkwardly grinned.
"You always had peach drinks. That’s why I told the store to stock up on them in the fridge. I made sure they’d be there for you."
Kang Jinwook spoke as if recalling an old memory. Sunwoo just stared at him, holding a smooth peach in his hand.
Wait, did I just hear that right? No way. There’s no way Kang Jinwook filled the store’s fridge with peach drinks for me, or for "Seobusu"...
"But how do you remember all that? Wasn’t that back in elementary or middle school?"
Sunwoo asked, thinking he must have misheard. Kang Jinwook’s expression froze slightly. He realized, only after Sunwoo asked, that he had been remembering something unnecessary.
What was the big deal?
But Sunwoo couldn’t help but imagine the younger version of himself, always carrying peach drinks every summer.
"You always drank them."
His tone seemed a little stiffer now. Sunwoo sneaked a glance at Kang Jinwook, who wasn’t looking at him but instead at the water glass in front of him.
"Well, if that’s the case, you can go ahead and eat it," Sunwoo muttered.
"Huh?"
"I fed you, so now you can leave. Don’t tell me you plan to stay longer?"
Sunwoo’s question made Kang Jinwook frown. Secretary Gwak, who had been listening to their conversation, suddenly looked up, his eyes gleaming.
He quickly checked his watch. If Kang Jinwook caught a flight back to Seoul now, he would make it just in time for the board meeting.
"Jeonmu-nim, you have a meeting at 5, so we should head up."
Secretary Gwak emphasized the meeting, not for Kang Jinwook’s sake, but to let Sunwoo know about the next schedule.
"What? You came all the way here, and you’re telling me you have a meeting? To have lunch of all things? Why?"
Sunwoo gave him a bewildered look. Only then did Kang Jinwook recall the real reason he had flown to Jeju.
It was because he had seen the photo of Sunwoo with Kim Tae-yeol. Sunwoo and Kim Tae-yeol weren’t just high school classmates. They had lived together even after they became adults.
When Sunwoo joined Taesung Construction, he lived alone in the house they had shared, so it was likely he had already broken off things with Kim Tae-yeol before he joined the company.
"With Kim Tae-yeol...?"
"He’s someone I met by chance."
Kang Jinwook’s question about how he met Kim Tae-yeol was interrupted as Sunwoo answered quickly, almost as if he were preempting him.
"Yeah, that seems to be the case. Secretary Gwak reported that Kim Tae-yeol came with some company colleagues."
"Going to the restaurant was to check if you were keeping an eye on me."
"Oh."
Kang Jinwook seemed a little taken aback by Sunwoo’s follow-up. Sunwoo, while watching Kang Jinwook drink the water, took a bite of the peach.
The sweet and tangy taste swirled around in his mouth. While he liked a sweet, juicy peach, he preferred the tangier ones like this.
"I heard you’re a hyper-alpha."
"So?"
Kang Jinwook didn’t respond when Sunwoo reacted so strongly. Sunwoo lowered the peach he had bitten, now showing the bite mark.
"Don’t you keep forgetting? I don’t remember anything. So, I’d prefer it if we didn’t keep talking about the past. Like I’ve said before, we’re not anything to each other."
"That’s..."
"Sure, I won’t deny that we’re engaged. It looks like it’s due to family circumstances. But as for our personal relationship, I think we need to sort that out."
"Our relationship?"
The words Sunwoo spoke caught Kang Jinwook off guard. Sunwoo, who had always drawn a clear line saying they were nothing to each other after losing his memory, had just said something unexpected.
"We’re the same age, right?"
"...Yeah."
It seemed like Sunwoo had just found a way to express that they would continue speaking informally. Kang Jinwook, who had been expecting something else, felt a bit silly but nodded, still keeping his expression unchanged.
"And I’m your boss."
"What? Your boss?"
"Yeah, I own the land where your construction company’s buildings are. That makes me your superior, right?"
Sunwoo must have meant something like that. With a slightly arrogant expression, he raised his chin, acting like he was being cheeky, but Kang Jinwook just thought it was cute.
Looking at Sunwoo, Kang Jinwook noticed the peach with Sunwoo’s bite marks on it.
For a brief moment, a faint, fresh fragrance of peaches wafted up to his nose. It felt familiar, like he had smelled it before. But with the fruit right in front of him, he didn’t think much of it.
"So?"
"From now on, listen to me carefully. Don’t act recklessly."
Snicker Kang Jinwook couldn’t help but let out a laugh. After all that talk about owning land and being the boss, he was now saying something like that.
"Yeah, I’ll do it."
Kang Jinwook nodded with a grin on his face, still smiling. His expression didn’t seem serious at all, and Sunwoo made a face.
There was nothing about Kang Jinwook that sat well with him. Except for the fact that he was handsome.

"But how did you know about that? You said you didn’t remember."
"I did some research."
"Research?"
"Did you really think I wasn’t smart?"
The way Kang Jinwook looked at him made Sunwoo’s heart tighten for a moment. What, you think I’m not capable of that?
"On the day you resigned, I went straight to the bank. I needed to know how much money I had."
"Ah... right."
Kang Jinwook nodded, as if confirming his thoughts. After all, Sunwoo had inherited quite a bit after his parents passed away, and since he couldn’t manage it all, he must have left it with someone else.
Sunwoo’s parents had passed away shortly after he entered university, right after the entrance ceremony.
"But the branch manager told me someone else was handling things for you. Through that person, I found out that you have a considerable fortune."
Although Sunwoo hadn’t mentioned anything about the substantial inheritance in front of him, he wasn’t planning to.
"So, do you want to assert your rights as the landowner?"
Sunwoo paused when Kang Jinwook asked that. It wasn’t that he wanted to. But now, with Kang Jinwook asking, he reconsidered.
"I just don’t want you to act recklessly. I want you to respect my wishes. Don’t push me when I say no."
Sunwoo quickly spoke up without thinking too much.
"Don’t surveil me either. I’ll tell you what I’m doing when I feel like it. Until then, just wait."
The more Sunwoo spoke, the more Kang Jinwook’s expression changed. When he said not to surveil him, Kang Jinwook raised an eyebrow.
When he really thought about it, Kang Jinwook was a good-looking guy, but his personality seemed like that of a wild, dangerous animal. Against such a person, being aggressive wouldn’t help. Sunwoo knew he had to calm him down, to coax him into listening.
Sunwoo looked directly at Kang Jinwook, now speaking in a softer tone.
"If you do that, I’ll think about it."
"What do you mean?"
"I’ll think about trying to get along with you."
Kang Jinwook’s eyes widened. Sunwoo looked at him steadily and clenched his fist. It was a statement that didn’t really make sense.
He wasn’t planning to tell Kang Jinwook about the pregnancy, but he was leaving room for a possible future.
Maybe it would be better to secretly escape, give birth to the baby, and live a peaceful life with just the two of them. But now, seeing Kang Jinwook act differently from the original story, Sunwoo felt conflicted.
Keeping a safe distance while figuring out what to do with Kang Jinwook seemed like a reasonable approach.
As Sunwoo thought about it, Kang Jinwook silently locked eyes with him. His dark, nearly pitch-black eyes felt like they were drawing Sunwoo in.
Gulp.
Sunwoo swallowed nervously.
"Ha..."
Kang Jinwook finished his water and ran his hand through his hair. His face was full of dissatisfaction.
What’s wrong? Sunwoo muttered internally.
"Yeah, I’ll do it that way."
Finally, Kang Jinwook gave a positive response.
