I Am the Only Fertile Woman in the Game-Chapter 142 - Reunion
Chapter 142: Chapter 142: Reunion
Chapter 142 -142: Reunion
Carl saw Zong Fang trying to pull Qiao Suisui up from the ground and without hesitation grabbed Qiao Suisui and lifted her upwards. After Qiao Suisui was up, she thought of ways to help Carl up, while Zong Fang had already picked up the rope that was prepared in advance and was lowering it from the hole; Carl took advantage of the situation to climb up agilely.
Just as Carl had just climbed up, the entire ground started to collapse inward, with Zong Fang pulling on Qiao Suisui’s hand, guarding her as they ran to a safe place, with Carl following closely behind. Each step they took was a race against time with the collapsing ground, which seemed to fall in chunks right behind their footsteps.
Finally, the ground ceased trembling.
Qiao Suisui collapsed on the ground, gasping for air as she looked at the wreckage in front of her, feeling a sense of relief that she had survived a calamity.
Carl saw that her knees and arms had various degrees of abrasions and immediately came over to check her thoroughly to ensure she was all right before he sighed in relief.
Qiao Suisui first looked towards Zong Fang, seeing that he was currently with his back to her, seeming to observe the collapsed ground in front of him as if confirming something.
She was brought back to reality by Carl’s concerned inquiry, responding, “I’m fine, how about you?”
Carl, too, had minor injuries. He didn’t even bother looking at them and indifferently said, “I’m fine.”

After finishing speaking, he noticed Qiao Suisui’s gaze returning to Zong Fang’s figure, and subsequently, he lowered his eyes and pursed his lips.
Carl also looked towards Zong Fang and called out to him, saying, “Hey, thanks.”
Zong Fang turned around, nodded, and said, “No worries.”
Carl frowned upon hearing this, displaying a bewildered expression as he looked at him. Qiao Suisui was also taken aback, finding this amiable version of Zong Fang somewhat unfamiliar.
Seeing their reactions, a quick flash of light swept through Zong Fang’s silver eyes, then his expression turned cold, and his tone became as gloomy as usual, saying, “If there’s nothing wrong, let’s hurry on. This place isn’t safe.”
Qiao Suisui nodded and watched the man who had already started walking away, her head slightly bowed. Carl kept an eye on her condition, keenly catching a fleeting look of disappointment in her eyes.
“Come on, up you go. I’ll carry you.” Carl squatted in front of her and turned back with a smile on his face.
Qiao Suisui waved her hand, pulling him up, and said, “I still have the strength, let’s walk.”
Thus, the two followed Zong Fang to a safe place.
“You guys take a break here.”
Zong Fang spread out a haystack into a makeshift bed for Qiao Suisui to sit on and rest. The straw pricked her painfully, but she didn’t utter a word, quietly leaning against the haystack to restore her energy. It was only when Carl took off his coat and laid it over the haystack that she felt somewhat better.
Zong Fang silently fiddled with a fire nearby.
Qiao Suisui sat opposite him, her gaze shifting over his figure back and forth, wanting to ask how he had been all this while but hesitated due to his somewhat strange behavior. She felt that Zong Fang’s actions today differed from the past, a subtle change that she couldn’t quite place, making her feel uneasy.
“Zong Fang, how did you happen to be there?” Qiao Suisui asked softly.
There was no expression on Zong Fang’s face, only his occasionally flickering gaze which was hard to read. He did not answer immediately but considered for a moment before saying, “That area was under my patrol. After hearing the explosion, I rushed over and found that you were nearly buried underneath.”
Carl asked, “Such a collapse must have been deliberate sabotage. Did you see who was involved?”
This time Zong Fang answered quickly, saying, “By the time I arrived, it had already started collapsing. I didn’t see anyone, but I saw an explosive device. It must have been someone tampering from underground.”
“Has someone discovered us?” Carl frowned, puzzled. “And my Talent couldn’t be used underground just now.”
Qiao Suisui asked, “What about now?”
Carl activated his Talent, and a black hole immediately appeared in front of the three of them.
“Why is this… It didn’t work underground, but now it does,” Carl said, puzzled.
Zong Fang, eyes cast downward, idly stirred the fire with a stick and said nonchalantly, “The Southern Battlefield has a Shielding Device; it might have interfered with you.”
Carl rotated his neck and muttered, “If the Shielding Device was useful for me, then why did I manage to bring you the stuff last time?”
Zong Fang’s hand paused, then continued to stir the fire as if nothing had happened. The flames were already burning high and didn’t need to be stoked, but his movements didn’t stop.
Seeing that he did not mention the photo of the juveniles, Qiao Suisui bit her lip and finally couldn’t help but say, “Zong Fang, are you… are you blaming me?”
Zong Fang kept his gaze downward and after a long pause, he said, “It’s all in the past.”
Qiao Suisui was taken aback, not understanding what he meant. Carl, unable to watch any longer, burst out, “Are you alright? Last time you insisted I tell her you’d definitely return to her side, and now she’s right in front of you, why play it cool? Are you playing hard to get?”
Zong Fang’s eyelids twitched, then he looked up at Qiao Suisui with a gaze full of apology and affection, saying, “Qiaoqiao, I’m sorry, I… It’s just been so long since I’ve seen you, I wasn’t sure how to act.”
Qiao Suisui shook her head, signaling him not to apologize, and gave him a comforting smile. The two talked for a while, and Zong Fang’s demeanor was no longer cold and distant. He was agreeable, even somewhat ingratiating in an almost imperceptible way. The familiar feeling between them had faded, deepening Qiao Suisui’s sense of mystery.
The conversation then fell into silence. Carl told Qiao Suisui to rest while he and Zong Fang took turns keeping watch. Occasionally, Zong Fang would glance at Qiao Suisui and Carl, his eyes seeming to search for some affirmation, yet he was unable to ask directly.
After Qiao Suisui had fallen asleep, Zong Fang suddenly spoke, breaking the silence, “Did you find anything unusual in the lab?”
Carl, idly counting the stars, replied, “We did find some documents, but the truly important parts had already been destroyed. Plus, with the sudden incident, we couldn’t take the documents with us.”
Zong Fang nodded, then asked, “Did you find the ‘Black Box’ on this trip?”
Carl, originally gazing at the night sky, turned to Zong Fang and asked, “You mean the recorder that only special personnel of the Federation have?”
Zong Fang nodded, “Perhaps it holds some clues.”
Carl, chewing on a straw, shook his head, “It’s been so many years, it’s probably broken by now. Moreover, only a very few people carry it when on missions. Looking for it now, the chances are too slim.”
Zong Fang said no more, silently watching the dancing flames.
When dawn broke, Zong Fang spoke to Qiao Suisui again about the Black Box.
“You’re saying, if we find this Black Box, we might uncover some clues? But we can’t be sure what it recorded, if it captured anything significant at all, and even if we did find it, after so long, it might not even open,” she said.
Qiao Suisui didn’t want to gamble all her time and energy on an uncertainty. She had already traced the experimental base, suspecting that the Federation had once conducted covert live experiments here, and the massacre at the Dudleyne village might be linked to this base.
“We should continue investigating the experimental base,” she said.
If not for the sudden collapse that destroyed the base, they would likely have made progress and obtained evidence by now.
Zong Fang’s Silver Eyes appeared profound. He didn’t insist further but smiled, “Alright, I know a place where there might be some clues.”
“Where?” she asked.
