I Am Tired Of Being A Hero-Chapter 212: Emily Wilson
Chapter 212: Emily Wilson
Ravi looked at how tense Arlen was and he gave him a small reassuring nod before leaving.
Korra lifted her hand and the corpse floated up.
"I can not use my car. I would take her back in the police vehicle. You can send Officer Adams to assist me when she is done." With that, she left.
Arlen turned to look at Sarah, "Was the murder weapon not found at the scene?" He looked around. He looked at the path of the blood and the sidewalk. There was no drop of blood anywhere other than where the girl had fallen, which means she had not been running down here but with the location of the body so close to the road, he could not dismiss the fact that someone might have pushed her out of a moving car.
He bit his lips, the more time was wasted, the more the traces left behind by the killer disappeared at will.
"We could not find any knife in any of the trash cans around here. It is possible that the murderer took it with them but I can tell the night team to expand their search."
He recalled Korra mentioning that the wound was sharp and clean without any hesitation injury, "Let’s not waste our time searching the garbage, The weapon must have already been disposed of. So, what do you think?"
Sarah looked around, even though the body had been taken away, the blood and the heavy stench of death filled the air. It made her so dizzy and she had to drink some water.
"There was one single slash. We could rule out a crime of passion. This does not indicate a disorganized or frenzied attack so it would not be an impulsive killer, they normally don’t stop after one attack." She said carefully, she bit her lips, "It is not a robbery either. That necklace and earrings that the victim was wearing are worth more than a thousand dollars so the robber should have taken it."
"Maybe he panicked." Lisa added as she looked at the lines which moved rapidly on the laptop.
"This is 1 pm For preschool and kindergarteners, this is the time for pick up. This might not be the main road but it is also busy. A robbery scene should not escape the eyes of those passing." She frowned but shouldn’t they have noticed the woman? It was not a deep wound, if she had been noticed earlier, then maybe, maybe she would still be alive.
"It matched. The victim is in the system." Lisa hurriedly said, taking the laptop to Arlen. The woman on the screen, with curly brown hair, bright green eyes and a small nose ring looked nothing like the pale corpse that they had just seen.
"Her name is Emily Mason. She got a DWI when she was seventeen but because of her behavior in court and her remorse, she was only sentenced to 100 hours of community service. I have her address, should we visit her home? It said that she is an orphan who grew up in the system so she has no relationship?"
Arlen looked at the shop where Ravi had entered for the surveillance and nodded, "Okay. Let us pay a visit to her home. It would give us a little more insight into her. We would also visit her neighbours and have an interview. What kind of person she is, her relationship with those around her, her job, everything we can find would be very vital in closing this case and finding her killer."
Arlen and Lisa took his car as Korra had already gone back with the police van. They drove towards the old girl’s academy and Lisa swallowed. Harlem was not far from this place, for Emily to live around her then clearly, she did not have a choice.
"Her finances might not be so good." She noted.
Arlen rubbed his brows, "But she had jewellery on her that was worth thousands. When we get back, we will investigate her finances and the jewellery as well."
"Yes, Boss."
They drove further, smoke filled the air and those working, stopped to look at the car with hostile expression.
"Captain..." Lisa called out cautiously, she had grown up in this kind of place so she wanted to warn Arlen that he might not even see his car when they came out but at the same time, she did not want to expose this part of her.
Arlen stepped out of the vehicle but his legs did not reach the car. He floated above and raised his hand, the dust on the road moving away with his command. He thought about summoning lightning but he decided that it might be too much. Staring back at those who had been looking at him, he did not move his gaze away until they did.
Lisa’s lips twitched as she followed after Arlen. There was no elevator in the old building so they had to climb four flights of stairs to reach Emily’s flat.
It was a small studio apartment. Lisa held her nose the moment she entered the room, there was a stench of rotting food in the apartment.
"Here!" Arlen passed her a nose mask before wearing one himself with some gloves. On the west side of the small room, there was a sectioned kitchen with a small sink, a small stove and a tall cupboard.
The small fridge was at the east of the room and was the main source of the stench. In the south, there were two wooden, covered with light blue cotton cloth with a mattress on the ground. A table and chair were next to the mattress and there were some writing materials.
Arlen flipped the book, "1000+ ACT Practice Examinations." There was another book on the table, a notebook with blue and red ink dotting the pages."
Arlen noticed a small board in front of the table. Daily affirmation filled the board, alongside a to-do list.
-Study for one hour
-Make lunch
-Go to Work
-Study for two hours ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
-Sleep
The last two were not checked. Arlen sighed, this was someone who had left the house with every intention to come back home.
