Chapter 224: Alstria

Ravi sat in the passenger’s seat next to Draco, enjoying the slight grimace of Arlen’s face as he sat in the back seat. He did not like it, sitting in the back seat all alone but before he had even come down from the steps of the building, Draco had already run forward and opened the door. As conscientious as ever.

Ravi’s lips twitched and he looked forward, acting like he did not see what was happening in the mirror. A minute later, Arlen’s work phone rang and he picked it up.

"Davenport Police Bureau. Yes. Getting a warrant is not the problem...

Ravi soon stopped listening to the call and looked at his fingers for a second before he looked at the window. The familiar roads appeared in his eyes, just left and straight, it would be the road to the Bayside Academy but that was not the route that Draco took. They were heading straight into the town.

Alstria was a big town with seven districts, one of the districts, Bega, was the place where Mary Taylor and the mystery man had visited a lot. He turned to look at Draco whose tense hands were holding the steering wheel and he sighed.

It was not just Arlen, there was a tension in the office that was spreading because of this case. It came mostly from the fact that they did not have enough information about this case, whether was it one person or a group, a man or a woman, the time of the crime, the location of the captive crime scene, and even the motive of the murder.

Although Lisa had already made up her mind they were dealing with a sociopathic psycho serial killer.

It was like they were in a fog, holding a lamp in their hand but still unable to see what lay ahead. But what this lead that they were pursuing looked promising. If the restaurant did not bear any result, there were still the luxury stores that Mary had visited, surely one of them would have this mystery man she was dating in the footage.

No matter how good a person is, there would be little traces. No killer is infallible, just officers who are not persistent enough.

When Draco stopped the car in this area, he let out a little gasp and looked around in shock. While he lived in Alstria, he had never been to this part of the city before.

"Close your mouth or flies might get in." Ravi warned him.

Draco blinked, "Even if flies get in, then they must be golden flies."

Arlen was still on the phone when they parked and he had to go to a side to continue his call, from the look on his face, there was no doubt that the call was integral to this case.

The restaurant they stopped at first, Dolby, was located in a high-end area. It was a covered pedestrian street and the entire area looked cut off from the rest of the world.

It was not just restaurants but it was also luxury stores with glass walls that littered the street.

"How much do you think a plate of food and wine would cost here?" Draco asked, looking at Ravi.

"80 dollars and above."

"You can not even get a good plate of food and wine for 80 dollars where I stay, not to mention this place. 200 tops." Draco rolled his eyes when he looked at Ravi before muttering an insult under his breath.

"If you keep murmuring, I would tell the Captain that with your eyes for detail, you would be better off, combing the three club’s footage with Lisa."

"Hey! I am the one who found this lead. You are the one who I don’t know why you are here. Should you not be with your computer, it is not like your face screams, tell me secrets that your bosses told you not to tell anyone. Why are you frowning now, just who are you frowning at? Can’t you smile for once in your life?"

Ravi felt that he was the one at fault for even starting the conversation with Daraco in the first place. He took a deep breath, wishing to go back to the last three minutes and not open his mouth. He ignored him, looking away and facing Arlen who thanked the man on the phone before coming towards them.

"Sorry to keep you both waiting?"

"It is alright, Captain, What you are doing is extremely important. I understand. Besides, when we were waiting, we were surveying the area and collecting information inspired by how hard you are working, Captain."

Ravi, who was about to open his mouth, closed it. This professional boot licker! He would do a better job as a politician’s assistant than a police officer with such polished skills.

"Let us go in." Arlen said as they entered the first store. The staff at the entrance gave them a quick assessment from top to bottom, offering a somewhat stiff smile.

"Officers." She greeted them.

Arlen did not waste them before he flashed the Davenport Police Bureau badge, the smile on the staff’s face became even more stiff when she saw Davenport.

Arlen did not mind, he explained the purpose of his visit, and requested the cooperation of the restaurant.

The employee shook her head, "Officer Sinclair, I am sorry but for our dinner’s privacy we have just a few cameras, and the footage is retained for a maximum of fourteen days before it is overwritten. Your requested time frame is a little too much." She looked away, "Plus, we don’t have the authorization to carry out such a request. Could you please leave your contact information? We would contact the manager and then we would get back to you."

It was a very polite, subtly veiled way to ask them to leave.

"Could we speak to the waiters? We would like to ask them if anyone remembers this woman?" Ravi took out the picture of Mary Taylor. Asking with all the politeness he could manage.

They all claimed that they could not remember. The three of them left the first restaurant and the second and the third and the fourth restaurant.

"Ah! Isn’t this that woman who poured Agatha that mint tea? I will never forget a face. It is her, I know."
