I Am Tired Of Being A Hero-Chapter 229: The device
Chapter 229: The device
"My boyfriend. That is what he came to bring for me." Her eyes widened, "It is still in his pocket, I forgot to take it because of the Captain." She pouted, "Let’s go back. There is something I found in the surveillance."
Ravi nodded but there was a bit of unease in his heart.
After Lisa went inside, Ravi stayed outside for another five minutes. He scrolled through the messages on his phone.
He did not know whether it was a good thing or a bad thing that Malik did not loiter outside his mind anymore. Maybe he did not need to, considering that, Ravi was going for weekly sessions with him.
But it did make passing information inconvenient.
"I will be home late." He sent a voice note to Malik.
There was a reply almost immediately with Malik just saying a single note, "Oh!"
However, that note was so suggestive that he did not need to say another word. Ravi shook his head even though Malik could not see him, "You are overthinking. We are still working on the case. We would work late."
"Okay. Don’t worry about the kids."
"I was not worried about them. If you people eat leftovers, keep some for me. If you guys cook, please wash the pots when you are done and put them in the cupboard."
The sound of Malik laughing reverberated in his ears, "This case has started affecting us. Come home with your documents, I will give you a hint."
Ravi smiled. They had not found much but the breakthrough in Mary Taylor Case made them have a lot more to go on with, "Okay." Malik with all his craziness had an astute knowledge of the human mind.
Ravi had never told him this, but whenever they sit for one of their sessions, even with his impenetrable mental fortress, he feels like there is nothing he can hide from those blank eyes. Fears, doubts, the ugly, secrets, and unseemly resentments in the depths of his soul, nothing passed Malik.
He smiled, it was scary.
"Will do." He recorded and sent it before leaning back up and heading up the stairs. Behind him, there was the sound of a motorcycling roaring in as it parked next to the police car,
It was a young woman, a dispatch rider. She wore a red coat over her clothes with the name of the company in bold. She held a small package and looked around before heading up the stairs.
The moment she saw Ravi in his police uniform, her lips curled in a smile, "Excuse me, Officer. I have a package for a Miss Lisa Johnson. Is she around?"
Ravi put the phone into his pocket, "Where is it? I would give it to her."
The woman hesitated but seeing his uniform, she passed him the small bag, "Sign here, please."
Ravi bent over and signed the document, indicating he was the one who collected the package. He wondered if he signed the wrong signature and name, was it possible for the delivery company to find out?
He looked at the small note on the bag, "Haha! I forgot to give it to you again." He frowned and uncharastically opened the bag.
It was a small jewelry case. Ravi hesitated, privacy was a big deal to him but his worry soon superseded that and he opened the case. The jewelry was very familiar.
It was a delicate rose design made of sterling silver and a sparkling green gemstone in the center.
Maybe it is some kind of bonding jewelry, like a wedding ring or something. He did not know the nuances of their relationship so he should not...
"Hello! You must be Officer Ravi West. I am your new partner. My name is Lisa Johnson. Nice to meet you. We are going to have so much fun together...The Quiet kind, okay, got it. I would zip it."
She was so noisy that Ravi did not hesitate to go to Sergeant Tom for a change, which was denied so quickly he was left speechless.
"Officer Brown, that was just rude. Apologize to Officer West."
"Can I call you, Ravi? I will take your silence as acquiesced. You can call me Lisa too. Thank you."
"You know partners are the closest people to each other. Think of me as your mother, your father, your sibling, and your best friend."
She was noisy, nosy, and never, never respected his boundaries. Lisa Johnson. His partner. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm
Ravi frowned again. What would Arlen do?
The next second, he reached for the earrings. He held the delicate earring between his thumb and forefinger and focused. The atomic structure of the earring appeared with the sharpest clarity in his mind, each atom was a distinct point in an intricate lattice.
Ravi moved them, shifting them subtly as he rearranged the molecules to his will, his eyes widened but he was not overtly surprised. Ravi had suspected that something was off.
Within the beautiful earring was a tiny device, its components unmistakable. The earrings moved further, exposing the tiny microchip and the transmitter but Ravi did not disable it completely.
He waved his hand and the earring was just as it was before. He placed it back into the case and headed up the stairs.
Lisa’s boyfriend was spying on her. Why? There was a frown on his normally gloomy and indifferent face.
Jealousy. He had heard of those types, and even encountered a few cases of them in his lifetime. Insanely jealous, and overtly paranoid, they had to follow their lovers everywhere, they had to listen to everything, and they could trust no one near their lovers.
Some people think it was quite lovely. There was a kind of romanticism in this darkness.
’He loves me so much he does not want to be away from me for a second. He is just protective’
Or some other excuse, their creative mind fumbled up to make them relax in the growing unease.
But Ravi knew better. Those cases he had seen. Not a single one of them ended well.
He looked down at the bag in his hand. What should he do...Kill him?
